Entering from the garage, this mud area is a welcoming transition between the exterior and interior spaces. Since this is located in an open plan family room, the homeowners wanted the built-in cabinets to echo the style in the rest of the house while still providing all the benefits of a mud room. This master bath was dark and dated. Although a large space, the area felt small and obtrusive. By removing the columns and step up, widening the shower and creating a true toilet room I was able to give the homeowner a truly luxurious master retreat. (check out the before pictures at the end) The ceiling detail was the icing on the cake! It follows the angled wall of the shower and dressing table and makes the space seem so much larger than it is. The homeowners love their Nantucket roots and wanted this space to reflect that.

The finishing touch: don’t forget the pets! Synergy Design & Construction bought this matching dog bowl as a gift for the family dog. It fits perfectly at the Screen Porch door. The exterior door leading to the Screen Porch was replaced with a Jeld-Wen "Smooth-Pro" fiberglass door with Schlage "Bowery" hardware in aged bronze for an updated look.
