We have been in our ABT home for over a year now. There are certain aspects that were done really well like custom molding throughout many of the rooms, hardy plank siding and a custom, built-in entertainment center. There many other aspects of the house that were done at a contractor grade level, which did not meet our expectations for a home at this price point (nearly $400k). Examples include low grade carpet and padding, windows that struggle to keep out any cold air and low-grade, mismatched (as you go room to room) tile. While those points certainly bring down the star rating for this builder, the biggest disappointment that I have with them is the warranty experience. The vast majority of the things on our 1 year punch list were small: chipped tiles, crown molding separating, etc. What is so annoying is the time it has taken to get them resolved. We are just short of four months since we hit our one-year warranty period and we still have work that is not done. We are always put on the back burner and find it hard to get timely resolution or any resolution to simple mistakes made by the builder's team. Example: they installed a French drain pop-up inside of a mulch bed on the wrong side of the side walk for correct draining. I sent pictures and explained the problem and it was rejected by their "coordinator." So my only option is to fix their mistake on my own or pay someone else to fix their poor quality work. As I said from the start, there are some good thing, but there are many bad things as well with this house. What it comes down to in my final assessment is that ABT sells you a product that is so-so quality for the price, but really falls short post-sale.

ABT built our home Twenty four years ago, this was our first new home and we met with Chip at the lot we wanted to buy. ABT helped us decide on what model to choose from and helped us with suggestions an options that we could make to our new home. ABT did everything we asked in building our new home it was a pleasure. I can still call ABT today and they will give us good advice.

In October 2013 we had our home built by ABT Custom Homes. The home is beautiful and we thought Chip the owner of ABT was great and worked very well with us until within six months of us living in our home the whole entire wood floor started to bevel up and the wood started to crack throughout the house. Chip was informed and they started an investigation with the manufacuter, installers and even the insurance company. At the end of the day no one took responsibility for the floor and ABT refused to do anything to repair it saying they didn't have the funds to do so, therefore breaking the one year agreement and warranty on the home. So buyers proceed with caution and be aware that this builder does not honor their one year agreement.

When the problem with the floor originated, ABT Custom Homes filed a claim with Lumber Liquidators, the supplier, as well as Nationwide Insurance, ABT's insurance carrier. Nationwide denied the claim stating ABT had no liability.

ABT Custom Homes followed through with Lumber Liquidators on the claim. Lumber Liquidators hired a third party inspector to give an independent report. His findings. were that the humidity levels under the house were normal as well as the moisture content of the framing lumber for the floor. However, it was noted that the plywood underlayment had too high of a moisture content which was causing issues with the hardwood flooring.

ABT then contacted 84 Lumber, the supplier of the plywood. 84 Lumber put ABT in contact with the technical representative of Georgia Pacific, the manufacturer of the Dry Ply plywood subfloor. The Georgia Pacific representative found that the moisture reading from the third party inspector recorded was impossible for two reasons: 1) The resins used in manufacturing the Dry Ply can't be tested for moisture content by conventional moisture detecting devices. 2) The plywood could not possibly have that high of a moisture content when applied to framing lumber with a 12% moisture content.

ABT was then caught between two giant companies that disagreed about the cause of the hardwood floor issue. At that time, the homeowner was told that ABT would not be able to 'go it alone' against the two large corporations. On the advice from ABT's insurance agent, It was stated to the homeowner that they file suit against ABT Custom Homes so in turn, Nationwide would have no choice but to represent ABT in settling the claim between Lumber Liquidators and Georgia Pacific. It was the only solution to get representation to resolve the dispute on what the actual problem was that existed and created the flooring issue.

ABT has been building homes for over thirty years. We take great pride in delivering quality homes and satisfied customers. We regret this issue and feel we have tried to resolve it fairly.

WE LOVE OUR ABT HOME! it's so gorgeous - just the standard items the home comes with are such a treat. Plus, their customer service has been impeccable. I wish ALL the homes I would ever own would be ABT homes. We love the team that works with us and have been treated very well.

Chip and his fantastic staff took our concept of our dream home and made it a reality. His guidance and patience was priceless when designing our home. Chip's demeanor was always uplifting and reassuring when the project got underway. We have received so many compliments from friends, neighbors, and passers by. From the overall theme to the level of detail we couldn't be more pleased. His design team had a leading role in transforming our ideas and dreams. His team of highly professional subcontractors were true craftsman in every sense of the word. From the framers to the cabinet maker to the guys who installed the tiles, they were all perfectionists. Best of all ABT Custom Homes was on time and on budget. If I had to do it all over again Chip would be my choice.

The entire group at ABT was a pleasure to work with. Beginning with the design process, all the way through completion, we felt as though we received the utmost in professionalism as ABT went to work building our custom home. Beginning with Robin who worked with us to put together the details of our wish list and budget. Then Adam, who was our designated Site Manager during the build. Now Toni, who all along the way has been responsible for coordinating, and is now our primary contact for warranty purposes. The service level at ABT has exceeded our expectations in every way. A company is only as good as the people they surround themselves with, and a builder is only as good as the subs they contract with. Having said that, we couldn't be happier with the end product nor the service we received by Terry and Nicole with Cabinets By Design. Also, our designer Beth Gilbert was incredible to work with. So much so, that we will continue to utilize her services well into the future. We began the process with an idea, and with the help of ABT, we now get to enjoy living in it! The complements we now receive on our new home are overwhelming! Thank you to Chip and the gang!

Chip and his team build a fantastic house. They listen to your concerns and offer their professional opinion when they felt we were making a "less than stellar" decision. They are respectful and responsive and I would highly recommend ABT to anyone wanting to build as well as remodel a home.
