「濡れ縁」と「くれ縁」

縁側には大きく分けて、「濡れ縁」と「くれ縁」の 2種類あります。「濡れ縁」は室外にある縁側で、屋根は被さっているものの外部に面しているので、雨が振り込むと文字通り濡れてしまう空間のことです。一方「くれ縁」は、建物の内側にあり、窓や雨戸を閉めると室内になる縁側のことです。「広縁」も「くれ縁」の一種で、室内にある、より幅の広い縁側を意味します。

ウッドデッキと縁側の違い

濡れ縁もウッドデッキもどちらも木製で住宅の外側にあるものですが、簡単な見分け方は、屋根があるかどうかです。屋根が被さっている、軒がある場合は縁側で、屋根がなく雨ざらしの状態であれば「ウッドデッキ」と言えます。ただ、明確な定義があるわけではないので、日本家屋や和室の場合は「縁側 (濡れ縁)」、洋風の部屋や建物なら「(ウッド) デッキ」と考えてもいいでしょう。

縁側のある家のメリットとデメリット
