After completing an interior remodel for this mid-century home in the South Salem hills, we revived the old, rundown backyard and transformed it into an outdoor living room that reflects the openness of the new interior living space. We tied the outside and inside together to create a cohesive connection between the two. The yard was spread out with multiple elevations and tiers, which we used to create “outdoor rooms” with separate seating, eating and gardening areas that flowed seamlessly from one to another. We installed a fire pit in the seating area; built-in pizza oven, wok and bar-b-que in the outdoor kitchen; and a soaking tub on the lower deck. The concrete dining table doubled as a ping-pong table and required a boom truck to lift the pieces over the house and into the backyard. The result is an outdoor sanctuary the homeowners can effortlessly enjoy year-round.

ミッドセンチュリースタイルのテラス・中庭の新設や後付けをお考えですか？ 「アウトドアリビング」とも呼ばれるテラス・中庭は、近年人気が高まりつつあるスペースです。タイルや石貼りにすればお手入れも簡単。世界中のおしゃれなテラス・中庭の写真をご紹介しています。お気に入りのテラス・中庭アイデアを集めて、ご自宅にテラス・中庭を作りませんか？ テラスとは、建物の1階からつきだして作ってある床を指します。テラスは、家屋などの母屋や建物から突き出して作られた空間で、主に１階に作られます。屋根がついているものもありますが、基本的には屋根がないのが普通の形態です。地面に近い高さで、リビング窓からは1、2段下がったところに設置されます。また、屋内とは窓や扉で繋がっている場合でも、テラスはタイルや石張りが多く、どちらかというと屋外や庭の一部に近いスペースと言えます。 リビングやダイニングから直接出入りできるようになっており、「アウトビリング」とも称される、リビングと一体になった広めの空間が、最近では人気となっています。 靴を履いたまま自由に出入りできる、木材で覆ったものがウッドデッキと呼ばれています。
