Also installed Beechworth Fiberglass Windows and Fypon Shutters in Custom Color by Sherwin Williams and remodeled the Front Entry Portico with White Wood Columns.

The best of past and present architectural styles combine in this welcoming, farmhouse-inspired design. Clad in low-maintenance siding, the distinctive exterior has plenty of street appeal, with its columned porch, multiple gables, shutters and interesting roof lines. Other exterior highlights included trusses over the garage doors, horizontal lap siding and brick and stone accents. The interior is equally impressive, with an open floor plan that accommodates today’s family and modern lifestyles. An eight-foot covered porch leads into a large foyer and a powder room. Beyond, the spacious first floor includes more than 2,000 square feet, with one side dominated by public spaces that include a large open living room, centrally located kitchen with a large island that seats six and a u-shaped counter plan, formal dining area that seats eight for holidays and special occasions and a convenient laundry and mud room. The left side of the floor plan contains the serene master suite, with an oversized master bath, large walk-in closet and 16 by 18-foot master bedroom that includes a large picture window that lets in maximum light and is perfect for capturing nearby views. Relax with a cup of morning coffee or an evening cocktail on the nearby covered patio, which can be accessed from both the living room and the master bedroom. Upstairs, an additional 900 square feet includes two 11 by 14-foot upper bedrooms with bath and closet and a an approximately 700 square foot guest suite over the garage that includes a relaxing sitting area, galley kitchen and bath, perfect for guests or in-laws.

The house utilizes best available strategies to be environmentally responsible, including proper orientation for best natural lighting and super insulation for energy efficiency. Inspiration for this design was based on the need to show others that a grand house can be comfortable, intimate, bright and light without needing to resort to tired and pastiche elements and details. A generous range of Marvin Windows and Doors created a sense of continuity, while giving this grand home a bright and intimate atmosphere. The range of product also guaranteed the ultimate design freedom, and stayed well within client budget. We also installed a natural stone in 3 spots with new porch posts and pre-finished tongue and groove pine on the porch ceiling.

The Harlow's exterior exudes modern sophistication with its gray siding, complemented by a sleek gray garage door and a tastefully placed light-colored stone accent above. The white window frames add a touch of contrast, allowing ample natural light to illuminate the interior spaces. A well-maintained front lawn enhances the curb appeal, providing a welcoming and inviting atmosphere. Surrounding the property, a fence offers privacy and security, creating a sense of tranquility within the outdoor space. Together, these elements combine to create a visually appealing and harmonious exterior that sets the stage for the contemporary elegance found within the Harlow.

This 1,000 square foot backyard residence was designed to comply with the requirements of Seattle’s Detached Accessory Dwelling Unit (DADU) program, and can be permitted on most residential properties as a secondary residence, office or rental unit. The overall form is reminiscent of a traditional gable roofed house allowing the DADU to fit in well in suburban neighborhoods, while the specific design, material expression and openness are decidedly more modern. Designed with flexibility in mind, a lofted space upstairs overlooks the double height main living space below and both have ample access to natural daylight and views provided by the large glazed wall and skylights above. The main living space enjoys an open kitchen, and a large linear gas fireplace and opens onto a private patio/ entry area with large double sliding patio doors. The standing seam corten steel roofing and siding as well as the brick chimney were selected for maximum durability and for their natural beauty and low-maintenance characteristics. The gabled roof comes pre-wired for photovoltaic panels, giving the option to make this DADU net-zero.
