Tim Andersen Architect
We design new traditional houses and cottages that are period appropriate yet well-adapted for life today. Projects have spanned American building traditions from (1880s) Queen Anne to (1950s) Midcentury Modern. Our designs are consistent with historic models while being fully up-to-date in terms of comfort, energy conservation and technology. Through our work in historic preservation we soon discovered there was historic continuity in our building traditions. They embodied a wealth of ideas, common sense, and aesthetic pleasures that could be continued in new buildings. We saw a renewed role for architects to participate in living traditions-- to adapt, invent, and carry them forward. We also design well-integrated renovations and additions for houses of most styles and periods. Our special expertise is in adapting pre-1960 buildings for current needs without losing their character or charm. The goal is to create projects that are a good fit for clients as well as context, coherent places that will provide enduring satisfaction. This is a small firm. We offer clients full architectural services from initial ideas through construction. Check out our Houzz Ideabooks exploring topics of traditional design. Each includes a short introduction and up to fifty captioned photos to illustrate ideas. They are works-in-progress and directed by the images and insights we find.
