This NoHo apartment, in a landmarked circa 1870 building designed by Stephen Decatur Hatch and converted to lofts in 1987, had been interestingly renovated by a rock musician before being purchased by a young hedge fund manager and his gallery director girlfriend. Naturally, the couple brought to the project their collection of painting, photography and sculpture, mostly by young emerging artists. Axis Mundi accommodated these pieces within a neutral palette accented with occasional flashes of bright color that referenced the various artworks. Major furniture pieces – a sectional in the library, a 12-foot-long dining table–along with a rich blend of textures such as leather, linen, fur and warm woods, helped bring the sprawling dimensions of the loft down to human scale. Looking at this home today, you would never know that the project began as a poorly maintained duplex. Luckily, the homeowners saw past the worn façade and engaged our team to uncover and update the Victorian gem that lay underneath. Taking special care to preserve the historical integrity of the 100-year-old floor plan, we returned the home back to its original glory as a grand, single family home. The project included many renovations, both small and large, including the addition of a a wraparound porch to bring the façade closer to the street, a gable with custom scrollwork to accent the new front door, and a more substantial balustrade. Windows were added to bring in more light and some interior walls were removed to open up the public spaces to accommodate the family’s lifestyle. Hand-troweled plasterwork on the walls, ceiling and trim wrap the entirety of the interior of this home. The furnishings, by Cristina Brophy Interiors, allow the contemporary architecture to fuse with the vintage finds, curating a transitional design.

This industrial condo in Roger's Park got a complete overhaul. The layout remained while all finishes, flooring and furniture were upgraded. The tall ceilings and large windows are the focal point of the space and so we kept it light and bright, while mixing textures and finishes to create interest. The client's own eclectic art and object collections pair perfectly with the pops of color in the furniture and accessories. The hand glazed kitchen backsplash tile is the perfect contrast to the white, wood and stainless steel and nods to the changing colors of the lake view across.

Located in one of the Bay Area's finest neighborhoods and perched in the sky, this stately home is bathed in sunlight and offers vistas of magnificent palm trees. The grand foyer welcomes guests, or casually enter off the laundry/mud room. New contemporary touches balance well with charming original details. The 2.5 bathrooms have all been refreshed. The updated kitchen - with its large picture window to the backyard - is refined and chic. And with a built-in home office area, the kitchen is also functional. Fresh paint and furnishings throughout the home complete the updates.

This client was tired of tripping over coats and shoes whenever she came home and so we came up with a storage solution for her hallway that her children would actually use! This nifty peg board not only looks sleek, but is also flexible for the future, as the pegs can be moved around.
