We live in a converted Victorian school building in Brixton — a duplex flat with double-height ceilings, tall classroom windows and a mezzanine bedroom. It has a lot going for it architecturally, but when Johanna first came round it was also pretty tired — brilliant white walls, not much storage, and no real personality. We knew what we wanted to feel but had no idea how to get there. That's where Johanna was brilliant. From the first meeting she really listened. She came back with a clear vision that felt exactly right — warm, layered and actually suited to how we live — and gave us the confidence to be bolder than we would have been on our own. Every time we wavered she was reassuring, and she was right every time. The big idea — a floor-to-ceiling solid wood beam wall replacing the old balcony partition — was Johanna's, and it completely transformed the feel of the room. We'd never have got there on our own. She then pulled together a beautiful, balanced colour scheme: off-white paints throughout, soft colours in the furnishings, the olive green sofa, floor-length curtains and a stunning long chandelier — a monumental change from the brilliant white and slightly dull look we had before. She also specified a gallery wall concept for us to build over time with artwork from our travels, which we love. She also transformed the entrance hallway completely: a beautiful new bookshelf and drinks cupboard opposite the stairs adds real character the moment you walk in, and the dead space below the stairs — previously just a walled-off void — became a proper fitted alcove desk and cupboards. The master bedroom was completely rethought: just by moving the bed she unlocked space for full bespoke fitted wardrobes, which sounds simple but we'd lived there for years without spotting it. And the smaller chandelier she chose for the hallway is a lovely touch — elegant without being over the top. The whole flat now has a warmth and personality it completely lacked before. We'd recommend Johanna without hesitation — she's creative, really easy to work with, and delivers exactly what she promises throughout.

Our living room and kitchen are combined and genuinely small, especially compared to the rest of the house, where the rooms are spacious. It was one of the hardest spaces to work with when we moved in. Johanna helped us with the design of this space, gave us thoughtful advice that helped bring it all together and make it feel more balanced and inviting. Johanna did an excellent job re-designing my newly bought flat. I must say, the experience was absolutely brilliant. The list of suppliers and options presented to us was really useful, and she worked hard to help find us the right options based on the move-in date (we had a pretty tight deadline so couldn't wait for custom builds, etc). By laying everything out like that and working with us to establish the vibe we were trying to create, Johanna put us at ease instantly... and turned a potentially stressful situation into a really exciting one.
