There may have been thousands of semi-detached homes in Toronto like ours tucked into a corner of the Upper Beach, but after our project with Roundabout, it's now one-of-a-kind. We brought Roundabout in to completely renovate our main and upper floors, desiring better flow and function where our current home lacked. From layout conception to the entire construction journey, Roundabout was a welcomed partner. They creatively help us solve the unique design challenges of our 110 year-old home, provided sound guidance and direction as we discovered our own aesthetic preferences, and problem-solved exactly how we needed them to when the ills of previous renovations showed themselves. My wife and I really enjoyed working with Roundabout Studio. We not only found the owners and staff to be very responsive when we had questions, but their creative design solutions were excellent. Our project objective was to reimagine our existing 50 year old home. Tear it down or renovate? The first thing Roundabout suggested was to create a master redesign plan of our existing home. From that point Roundabout produced design drawings for every part of our home, including the exterior. The process was quite seamless, but when a problem developed, the design team came up with a solution. Usually the problem was solved without causing any additional monies. While this was not always the case, it has to be expected when you're renovating a 50 year old home. To this day, people still stop and comment on how beautiful our home is. "Wow, I feel like I've walked onto the pages of a magazine." That's the comment we hear most often when friends and family come to visit our home, newly redesigned and renovated by Roundabout Studio. (That, and, "Do you have their card?") And no wonder. Daniel Harland, Nate Fisher and the Roundabout team have done a phenomenal job taking a typical, cramped, 90-year-old downtown home and turning it into a beautiful, light and airy living space that seems to shine even on cloudy days. We actually weren't sure what we wanted to do with our home in the beginning, but Nate spent time asking questions and reading between the lines to create renderings that combined creativity and functionality. Our home wasn't so much about building more square footage, but re-imagining the space we have. Roundabout excels at contemporary yet livable design. Gone is our cold, dark attic with its dangerous stairway. Now we have a bright, warm family room and home office. The first floor is ready for entertaining -- and the kids no longer fight about who has the bigger room. (They're both *exactly* equal.) After the design stage, Roundabout worked on hiring a great, experienced and friendly building crew, securing numerous building permits, recommending finishes and fixtures, consulting on colours, and problem-solving for all the challenges that are inherent to working on older homes. Many times we felt guilty when talking to so many friends with home reno horror stories because our home renovation just seemed so...easy. That was no doubt due to Roundabout's professionalism and customer service. Whether we were asking them to move a whole wood-burning fireplace 18 inches to the right, adding a hot tub to the upstairs deck off the master bedroom, or installing a kegerator in the kitchen for parties, Nate and Daniel said, "Sure, we can do that." And then they exceeded our expectations. Meanwhile Gary Westwood walked us through the contract point by point and checked in along the way if there were changes. Would we hire Roundabout Studio again? In a heartbeat. Do we recommend this design studio to others? Absolutely. Our home has changed -- and our lives have too. Wonderful job!

I hired Roundabout Studio to design a 3700 sq ft home for my family on a rural farm. They did a wonderful job of creating our modern farmhouse. They were available throughout the project and prompt and often knew the answers before I or the tradespeople asked the questions. I would highly recommend them.

For most of the past year it’s been our turn to welcome the Roundabout Studio Inc.-Old Soul Carpentry Club team into our lives. We enjoyed the same experience (project details apart) described so thoroughly by sgayton below. Our tastes are modern and our house is old, full of quirks and character and, it turned out, structural deficiencies. Roundabout and Old Soul completely gutted our hundred-year-old semi and returned a solid, light-filled, airy house with its structural problems addressed. There is something to delight on every floor. The team understands both modern aesthetics and old houses. They knew where to splurge and where to save to deliver the brief and stay within our budget. They were the right team for our project. We’re thrilled with our “new” house.

We welcomed Roundabout Studio Inc. and Old Soul Carpentry Club(OSCC) into our lives for many months. It is a bizarre experience to work with strangers so intimately and then to be abandoned never to be seen again. Fortunately before the team left, they had completed a renovation project that far exceed our expectations. The only tears that were shed during the project was those of joy when Jo Ann's mud room phase was completed. Those with young children can understand the importance of such a space. We hired Roundabout to design, budget and manage the build. The boys at OSCC renovated the house. Our renovation consisted of a new exterior look to the house including Cape Cod style Maibec siding, beautiful Eramosa stone masonry new windows and a porch. The interior renovation was a complete gut which included an open concept design in addition to a new bathroom, kitchen, dining room and stairs. We also added a new lighting scheme, paint, fixtures, shelving and some modifications to the bedrooms. Our strategy was to create a livable space for four in a bungalow where entertaining would never be an issue again. Roundabout handled all the details through a well constructed plan from start to finish while keeping us involved and educated on a weekly basis. They were always available for questions or concerns at any time. Professional, intelligent, patient and courteous to say the least. The bulk of the build(95%) was completed in four months. The rest of it was much longer, but understandable. Weather, scheduling, sub-trades and permit confusion were the main reasons. Roundabout designed and budgeted for the build before we even broke ground which curbed the surprises and anxiety levels. Aside from a few hiccups that was beyond our control, it was completed on time and within budget. The OSCC team are very skilled tradesmen with an artistic design focus to their work. They were also very respectful, tidy and we did not experience one complaint from the neighbours. Anyone that visits, admires the work that has been done. The two companies work very well together and I would highly recommend welcoming the entire group into your home to complete your dream renovation. We worked with Roundabout Studio to renovate our home. When meeting with the principal Daniel, we felt most comfortable when he outlined his schematic plan for renovating in stages. We decided upon getting all of the work done at once, but appreciated that he was willing to work within our original budget and within time constraints. We've used Roundabout on several major projects in our Victorian house. All the trades people they utilized were professional, pleasant and tidy. The more specialized craftsman were true artists and showed genuine passion for what they did. As we expected as owners of an older home there were unexpected challenges which were handled with efficiency and candor. Home renovations are seldom fun but Roundabout certainly made the experience a significantly less daunting and stressful process.

We were able to come up together with a great working solution for a custom concrete fireplace surround. It compliments the space beautifully and we LOVE their style and aesthetics.
