We had Kuhl Design Build do a whole house remodel for us in 2020. They were great to work with. Everyone listened to what our needs were and helped us get the project done within a reasonable budget. Our project manager, Dave, was excellent and we had good communication with him during the project. I would definitely recommend Kuhl.

We hired Kuhl in 2015 to design and build our Plymouth home basement finish project. They did an excellent job matching the features on the main floor. Their work on our new gym and unique spa bathroom/bedroom suite was exceptional. We highly recommend them for any basement finish project or re-finishing.

Dan Murphy and Kuhl did a great job, from start to finish! I loved the layout Maggie created, and the design work Shauna did turned out beautifully! They made everything smooth from start to finish - I did not have to labor over the layout, the design, or making any of the many detailed choices. They put much thought into the best solutions, are easy to work with, and stand behind their work!

Two years ago I started looking into replacing our aging cedar shake roof. Out of the 5 companies I looked at, Kuhl seemed like the best-equipped and most "comfortable" fit for me. This year we finally pulled the trigger, and it was an amazingly fast project. In just 3 days they had the old roof off (without damaging any of our large flower beds all around the house), the new roof on (we went with a textured asphalt shingle to reduce maintenance this time) and everything cleaned up. The best part of the process was the crew - they were professional, didn't get in our way AT ALL, and did fast excellent work. I think one thing (other than the great leadership team) is that Kuhl sent ENOUGH people to do the job properly in a timely manner - and on budget. Not many contracting companies do that anymore. The best part - they worked with our schedule so all the noise and work was done while my wife was out of town (we both work from home), so she didn't have to deal with the noise! Thanks everyone who worked on our roof, it was great!

The Kuhl team guided us through a complete house remodel in two phases and turned our 1960's rambler into a modern, comfortable, warm and inviting new home! They were great to work with. They really are a team and that is part of the reason we selected Kuhl Design Build. They have a very systematic process that they follow and engaged us in the initial design discussions to get ideas of the "dream". They then came back with ideas and through a few iterations came up with a plan that meets our needs wonderfully well. Those who visit our house always comment on the finish quality, the accent selections, and the woodwork. They are very talented. They are also such nice people, we miss having them around now that the project is over. But we do love living in this wonderful space they helped us create.

We remodeled our kitchen, two bathrooms, flooring throughout the main level and added a mud room and a front porch. It involved removing one wall and re-configuring some other walls, doors and closets and adding an alcove in the front hall to include a lovely bench. Much time was spent on the design which was fun and professional. They were very respectful of our wishes for this project and we were grateful for their ideas and for leading us through all of the decisions. We were also very impressed with their design tools, during the planning phase, which helped us to visualize the final product. We received a detail list of materials and costs. All costs were explained up front so there were no surprises. The execution of the design was also efficiently planned out; there was always something moving forward. The entire 4-5 month project was planned out in advance with a diagram so that we could follow the progress. It was finished on time (!) and we are very pleased with the quality of the carpentry and all the details that went into it. We love our living space and are very glad that we did it. Oh also, they didn't just walk out at the end. They had an end-of-project follow-up and stayed in touch over the year or so after completion, to make sure that everything was going well. Which it is. We recently hired Kuhl to remove an ice dam and repair damage in a home that we have for sale in the Twin Cities. Their estimator (Pete) showed up on time and was very friendly and knowledgable. They got the work done within a few days of my call. The guys that did the work were friendly and respectful, and they went out of their way to keep the home clean and safe while they were working. The did an outstanding job! You can't tell that there was ever any damage. Best of all, their price was more than fair. Considering that it was sub-zero weather in January in Minnesota, they could have charged just about anything and gotten away with it. However, they did NOT. The work was done on time and on budget! It was a great experience.

Kuhl Design Build LLC is more than design and build. Steve Kuhl brings your ideas to reality. He's thoughtful and is engaged through every step. Also, his other business, The Ice Dam Company takes care of those nasty ice dams. Living in Minnesota, we see our share of those.

I love Kuhl and have have recommended them to many friends and real estate clients. They have an eye for quality and creativity and have the resources to get anything completed you might need. They are not the least expensive but well worth the splurge. They stay in touch and help us with random projects whenever they come up.
