Our decision to have Jarrod Smart Construction design and build our home was the best choice we could have made. Building in McKennan Park required approval for many aspects of our home, by the Board of Historic Preservation and the City of Sioux Falls, so this was no easy task. Jarrod takes the interest of the home owner to heart. The job site was very well maintained, his staff and the subcontractors were incredibly polite and experienced in their field. Jarrod took into consideration everything that we wanted to see in our new home. He created samples of designs, such as the interior window frames, so we had a representation of what they would look like. He had the subcontractor who designed and built our custom cabinets, create a mock up of what we could expect from them, since this was his first time working with them. He incorporated custom tile that we had shipped from Detroit, MI into our design. Jarrod is all about symmetry in a home. This is so very important to make the space pleasing to the eye. He has a broad sense of how to create unique features and one of a kind details that make a home different from all the rest. As the builder, Jarrod is up front about the costs, and where he is in the building process on CoConstruct. He keeps you very informed. He knows that his job isn’t finished after the completion of the home. He understands that there will be things that will still require attention, it’s just inherent to a new home.

The Jarrod Smart Construction team was outstanding to work with. Their workmanship and attention to detail was of the highest standard. They truly cared about our project and did everything that they could to make sure the final product was one that they could be proud of. The JSC team was very knowledgeable and took the various project challenges head on. My wife and I hired Jarrod Smart Construction in 2016 to perform a home remodel with a tight timeframe. The project went down to the wire, but Smart delivered and we were in the newly remodeled home on time. We had a great experience with Jarrod Smart Construction and would hire them again. Their communication was excellent. Their follow through on promises was good. Their staff looked and acted professionally throughout the project, and the same was true of their subcontractors. I recommend Jarrod Smart Construction for anyone looking for higher end construction and finishes who values the "relationship" piece of the transaction.

I have enjoyed working with Jarrod and his team on a recent whole-home historic renovation in McKennan Park. The project manager (Nick) was very attentive to the client and myself during the entire design process. Every detail of the home was worked on as a team and great care was taken on the job site throughout the process. I would highly recommend the Jarrod Smart team for future high-end residential projects!

This was our first custom home experience and we were living 1200 miles away so choosing the right builder was critical for us. We interviewed several and JSC stood out. Jarrod himself attended our first meeting and laid out their process. It was completely transparent and very methodical. Jarrod himself is a craftsman and we were also impressed by his discretion. Any plans or examples he showed us didn’t identify the client or location. We essentially hired him on the spot. The design process was a little slower than we had heard from friends who had supposedly been through the same process but it became clear that JSC worked differently. Jarrod interviewed us for hours focusing on function. He brought up things we never thought of – where do you like to fold laundry? - are occupants right or left handed? – how tall? – what are the breed and size of your pets? We used Houzz to send him ideas. The final design was just what we needed. Since we lived so far way, JSC kept us up to date on construction with pictures and videos. Our future neighbors were impressed with JSC and the subcontractors in terms of their politeness and cleanliness. This made it easier for us to meet our new neighbors. We had heard nightmares from other job sites in the neighborhood. There are posted rules at the job site including no smoking and no cursing. The house was completed on time and delivered to us completely clean. No unwanted materials were left on the site or in the home. Paint and extra trim was neatly organized and labeled in the basement. The mechanical room was labeled and all our manuals were placed in a binder with a table of contents on the front. JSC filled out and mailed any needed warranty cards and set up all our utilities. They made appointments for us to learn the HVAC and any other systems in the house. JSC doesn’t do a one and done punch list. They came out continuously in our first few months whenever something came up. Our only major issue was our AV system but JSC completely managed the problem for us. You don’t need to communicate directly with sub contractors before, during, or after. Jarrod and his employees take care of coordinating everything. At one point, we had a minor concrete issue and the sub couldn’t get to removing some concrete in time so Jarrod himself came out and did it. Our house is built to last and feels like a fortress. People constantly comment on the build quality and finishes. Most importantly, JSC stands behind the entire home.

We really enjoyed working with Jarrod Smart Construction in the design and construction of our new home. Jarrod demonstrated exceptional creativity and flexibility in the design process. During construction, JSC displayed outstanding quality of workmanship, and Jarrod's attention to detail is second to none. Jarrod was extremely easy to work with and took time to help us with any selection advice or any questions we had. Jarrod was very conscientious with follow up after we moved in and continues to be. We consider Jarrod a good friend and would highly recommend Jarrod Smart Construction.

Jarrod Smart has done two projects for our home. They added a beautiful deck with pergola and transformed a wall into a media wall. They are professional, articulate, trustworthy and very accommodating. I have found these characteristics very difficult in many businesses and within competitor contractors. Jarrod Smart comes highly recommended and I have yet to find a company that comes close to them!

I hired Jarrod Smart Construction for a gut kitchen remodel and am thrilled with the final outcome! My kitchen is as beautiful as it is functional. With Nick Kapperman as the project manager I always kept abreast of the day-to-day and week-to-week timeline. The professionalism, high quality of workmanship and easy camaraderie of the people that work at JSC made the project as enjoyable as a torn-up kitchen could be.
