IS Architecture

When we decided to remodel and add onto our 1941 cottage, we knew we needed an architecture firm that understood and appreciated the value and charm of old homes. Ione and Robert listened to what we wanted and were able to provide a design that exceeded our expectations. The house has the look and feel and charm of a 1940s home, but with all the modern amenities. They guided us through the complex permitting requirements and regulations and helped us make numerous decisions for the interior and exterior of the house. The results are outstanding and no one would ever believe that the house wasn't originally built like this in 1941. It's a dream come true.

When we were looking for an architect for our 1927 Craftsman Bungalow, we wanted a team who had experience with the historic commission, the coastal commission, craftsman homes and the city of San Diego. IS Architecture has a great reputation with all. During the planning stage, IS Architecture gave us many alternatives and suggestions which allowed our home to continue to have the 1927 design and still gives us a comfortable home to live in. The remodel of our home was a large project and was completed on time, even a bit early and in budget due to the detailed plans and excellent communication between IS Architecture, our General Contractor and ourselves. We continue to receive many compliments on our home. We have and will continue to recommend IS Architecture.

We were delighted with the outcome of our home renovation project, and very pleased with the entire process working with Ione, Marissa, Brandy and everyone at IS Architecture in getting to completion, on time and within budget. This was the complete renovation of a simple, three-bedroom 1957 ranch house, which is now a lovely Arts & Crafts inspired home with a wrap-around covered porch, with well-thought out special touches throughout the home.

We have worked with IS Architecture, over the past 20 years, on three different projects. Two of the projects, being on the same home, which is a 1920's Spanish Colonial Revival. They were very sensitive to the style of the home and quite clever to bring it into modern day functionality while still maintaining the integrity of the original home. Not an easy job. Everyone at IS Architecture has always been a pleasure to work with, over the span of 20 years. They are all very talented and great personalities. They are very creative, and have great taste. We highly recommend them for any and all projects and will always use them for our architectural needs.

We hired IS Architecture to design our custom home, and we couldn't have been more satisfied. Ione's historical knowledge, attention to detail, and design expertise were all exceptional, and she patiently guided us through the entire process. I used IS Architecture to do architectural plans for a major remodel on a 1929 Spanish Revival home, and to help me secure a historic designation for my home. The entire project had to carefully thought out and meticulously executed as there were many rules/guidelines that had to be followed. Ione Steigler, the principal of IS Architecture, is an absolute master at historic additions, restorations and renovations. She is knowledgable, creative, easy to work with, and budget conscious. I can't recommend her firm highly enough.

Ione and her team designed our home in La Jolla. We had one simple objective - design a home that was "warm" and reflected our life style with an emphasis on entertaining. Ione gently pushed us into adding beams to our kitchen - I was initially opposed. She knew how to get the right result and she was so right. Another factor for us was having a home that had distinct rooms as opposed to a great room. Again Ione and her team pulled this off. I am not sure anyone else could have done a better job of designing for our site which was a difficult one.

We had a wonderful experience with IS Architecture. Ione listened to what we wanted and added her own vision and expertise to create a fantastic house that fit our family (e.g, she added a loft so our kids would have more room to play -- I never would have thought of that!). She has a fantastic eye for detail, and she helped us from the beginning of the project to the end. Each room turned out bright, comfortable, and welcoming. The entire office was professional and courteous, and they were an absolute pleasure to work with.

Ione Stiegler/IS Architecture and team, were hired by us in September 2013. Our home is historic-in-nature, given it was built by a known architect, William Kesling, in 1946, Pre-Mid-Century Modern, and it was imperative to us that we maintain/preserve our home accordingly. ISA specializes in historic preservations, rehabilitations, restorations and reconstruction remodels. In September 2013, ISA began the architectural design process for a kitchen expansion/remodel on our home and a major historic rehabilitation/reconstruction of our entire home and detached garage. This included upgrading electrical, plumbing/sewer and telco/technology, and, new door and windows, lighting, roofing and concrete flatwork. During March thru September 2014, construction took place (more than $100,000 job) and ISA was with us every-step-of-the-way. ISA’s Project Manager Robert Davidson is a bright and upcoming architectural prodigy, whom contributed a wealth of influence, input and oversight into the project. As a result of ISA’s recommendation, in April 2015, we were selected by Save Our Heritage Organization (SOHO) as recipients of a 2015 People in Preservation award; SOHO was impressed by the care and detail that was put into the sensitive addition to our known architect’s designed home. The architectural design process was completed on-time, especially given the number of revisions imposed, including Historic Review Board (HRB), Topographic Survey and Structural Engineering Drawings/Calculations; and with the upmost degree of precision/quality, honesty/trustworthiness and integrity/professionalism. ISA’s front office team is the absolute best; kind/personable, on-top-of-things and helping to make challenging situations less-challenging. We highly recommend Ione Stiegler/IS Architecture and team and would not hesitate to hire them again!
