I truly cannot say enough amazing things about Ruchi A Mohan, DesignbyRUCHI. There isn’t a day that goes by that I am not grateful for having found Ruchi. Without her I don’t think I could have done our gut renovation of our 2200 sf apartment. Ruchi is incredibly talented, creative and thoughtful. Her attention to detail and professionalism was apparent throughout the year long process. Every detail was carefully considered, every choice felt inspired and the result was spectacular. Ruchi not only guided us through every design detail, but she also literally ran our job. There were design decisions I had no idea I had to make, and without her guidance, I can’t even imagine what the final reveal would have looked like. My wife and I started a total gut renovation of our 2200 square foot apartment in June 2025. We started the process with architect to file the plans with the city and our co op board. We hired a contractor but knew we needed help with the interior of the apartment. After interviewing several designers, we came across Ruchi A Mohan, DesignbyRUCHI LLC Within the first couple of weeks into the job, we realized our architect had a very different sense of style than we did, and we turned to Ruchi for help. She ended up running our entire job and not just the design. We didn’t realize how many moving parts needed to be addressed and executed. Her knowledge about the intricacies of construction far surpassed anything we expected. She became our project manager working with our contractor and all trades, and oversaw the entire project from top to bottom and everything in between. She coordinated with all vendors and suppliers and was on top of it, keeping the project within the timelines and on track. She designed and discussed the dimensions for all the furniture we had custom-built and knew immediately what would work and what wouldn’t. Her design aesthetic is truly amazing. She understood exactly what we wanted our space to look like. I have never worked with anyone as efficiently and dedicated to her work as Ruchi is. We truly would have been lost without her. She saved our renovation and is an absolute pleasure to work with. Ruchi is a must for all your design needs.

Ruchi is incredible! I typically waver between “no idea what I’m doing” and “I know exactly what I want.” Thank goodness I found Ruchi - she was so kind, genuine and patient! Ruchi designed our dream home… no, better than we could’ve dreamed ourselves! Sophisticated, modern, yet cozy, each room fits our style and elevates our everyday. With a fully custom kitchen that inspires my husband to chef more than cook, our place has become “the hang” and we are always hosting. We are so grateful for her elegant and interesting taste combined with bold ideas. Gorgeous colors, a bespoke archway. We truly have our forever home. She got the job done all while I was very pregnant and made sure the contractors worked quickly to prepare for our growing family. A dream designer, better than we could have dreamed!

I can't say enough good things about working with Ruchi and the work she has done in our apartment. If you are looking for a designer for any project, save yourself some time and anxiety and hire her. I was one of those people who has a pretty particular aesthetic I was trying to achieve, but of course was also mindful of spending consciously and getting the highest visual impact while using pieces I already had. I spent quite a long time searching for designers online, wading through hundreds of images I liked, and working my way backwards to trace the designer origin of those images, interview them, and see if it was a fit from a project / budget perspective. Ruchi was far and away the best fit from an aesthetic, working style, and approach to project management / budget perspective of all of the people I spoke to. We started our project in late fall, with the aim of reworking the floorplan slightly (no material renovations, but we did include some custom cabinetry / bar, new lighting fixture installations, new bathroom sink/toilet/fixtures, and custom molding all throughout the apartment, etc, as well as selection of soft furnishings to make a cohesive design throughout the home). Ruchi helped optimize the floorplan and layout, then helped select colors, finishes, and oversaw the project work / deliveries until everything was completed in late Jan. I couldn't be happier with how everything has turned out and we get so many compliments from friends and visitors on how beautiful the space is. My husband and I have loved working with Ruchi so much that we have just asked her to take on a larger "Phase 2" scope of more fulsome kitchen and bathroom renovation for us. Ruchi is thoughtful, creative, and has great contacts in the industry to help get wonderful interesting pieces at reasonable prices, as well as helping to navigate the (frankly really tough) process of selecting contractors to do the trade work. I am more than happy to talk to anyone thinking about hiring Ruchi about my experience and answer any questions to help you feel comfortable you're making the right choice!

We have had a fantastic time working with Ruchi on our apartment refresh. She has helped us select wallpaper for several rooms, a new rug and sofa for our living room, and accessories/hardware and upholstery for new built-in millwork. She also recommended an excellent and trusted wallpaper installer who did a fantastic job. We preferred to shop with Ruchi instead of having her present proposals to us; she was flexible in scheduling time with us to go to wallpaper and rug stores together to get a sense of our style and preferences. Ruchi has been patient in working with us (as we are not design-inclined) and taking the time to understand our goals for our home and our budget. Ruchi recently helped me stage a condo in Manhattan for sale. She did a fantastic job curating high-end pieces to make the place appear larger and more suited to its multi-million dollar price tag. This included a total re-do of two bedrooms, a living room, kitchen, and large terrace. Regarding the last two, Ruchi remade the kitchen into a dreamy place with fresh cabinet doors and pendants. The terrace? My brokers said nobody wanted to leave the space. The condo sold in four days after being placed on the market with multiple showings each day. The clincher for the buyer was a statement piece of furniture Ruchi said would sell the place, and it did! And if the condo hadn't sold, Ruchi put enough of my taste in there to make it "my" space for however long I owned it. As a repeat client of Ruchi's, I can honestly say I would hire her (again) in a heartbeat.

Ruchi was an absolute pleasure to work with. She took the time and really listened to what I was looking for in my space and designed it with that in mind, showing me a range of great options. She never pushed her choices on me but still provided me with great options I might never have considered or would not have been able to visualize without her. She was always available, easy to contact, very professional and easy to work with. Her relationships within the industry (contractors, suppliers, etc.) made it easy to get things done. She was conscious of my budget and took that into account throughout the project, providing a mix of options so I could make investments in the right places. The project she did for me was a redesign of a whole apartment and her eye to detail really brought the whole space together in a way that gave each room its own distinctive design but still flowed together very naturally and cohesively across the whole apartment. I look forward to working with her again for any future projects!

Our experience with Ruchi in designing our Manhattan apartment and managing the project was the best. Ruchi, very clearly understood our ideas and how we want our apartment to look like at the end of renovation. She provided us with very good suggestions and gave us good justification on what we should furnish in each room and where to get the items, in addition to great designing of each of our rooms. To validate her work, I have guests regularly visiting us - everyone was amazed of the work inside what they see and overall how the apartment looks. We got Ruchi's name from a common friend and the minute we met her we knew right away that she is the designer we want to design our home. She listens very carefully to what my husband and I wanted and what our family is about. Her suggestions were so right on after understanding our vision. She never forced her ideas to us but pointed us to different directions of where we can go and how we could decorate our apartment. She was patient with us when we were slow in responding to her and also understanding of how life can be so hectic sometime. Her choices were amazing to begin with so we did not have to do a lot of back and forth. She also is a master of using things we already had and were nice so saved a lot of money for us that way. She is honest and diligent and detail oriented! She helps with finding the right people to install art and wall paper and chandeliers if I wasn't sure of who to call. Her folks who work with her are also super professional just like her. If we would think of re decorating our house again in a few years and upgrade it, we will go back to Ruchi in a heart beat. I highly recommend her as a professional, kind, patient and understanding designer along with being a beautiful human inside out!!

Ruchi worked with my daughter on decorating her new triplex. All three floors were a blank, empty slate. Ruchi filled it per my daughter's taste and desires, doing everything from space planning to selecting furniture, rugs, wallpaper and accessories, to managing subcontractors and installation. It is a magical place. It was clear Ruchi cared about making this a home and about my daughter; this was not just another job. We experienced many delays due to no fault of Ruchi or ours. Yet, Ruchi was flexible, professional, and patient. She was also 100% transparent with all costs (fees and pricing), and there were no surprises. A wonderful experience for us all. I have already hired her again.

Working with Ruchi was an absolute delight! Not only is she talented and her sense of design impeccable, Ruchi sought to understand me, my lifestyle, and my own tastes. I've heard horror stories about working with designers who try to dominate their clients' living space. Ruchi was polar opposite and cared deeply about designing the space for the people who will actually live in it. At the beginning of the process, I had a vague sense of what I wanted and found it difficult to articulate. From the very first phone call, Ruchi was able to ask the right questions to draw out inspiration for the project. She was extremely helpful in easing the design process for someone like me who isn't very knowledgable in this area. Plus, Ruchi was working under some unusual constraints of mine, such as restricting the kinds of materials to be used. Finally, Ruchi offered full-service project management. It was no small task to manage all the deliveries and contractors in a very strict building. My building had very stringent Covid protocols in place and demanded paperwork and indemnifications for every trade, contractor and delivery team entering my apartment. Her plans were detailed, articulate and were promptly approved by the building's reviewing team.

Ruchi took on two projects in our home - the primary bedroom and window treatments for all rooms - and we’re thrilled with the results. In our bedroom, she combined textures (rug, chair, bedding, window treatments) with natural elements (bed frame, nightstands, plants, and lighting), in a layered, soothing color palette, creating exactly the vibe I was hoping for. The window treatments she selected for the primary bedroom and bath, my daughter’s bedroom, my son’s bedroom, our living room and the kitchen are wonderful. I never in a million years would have been able to do this myself. All within budget and in time! Highly recommended.

Ruchi is amazing in her professionalism and style. She took the time to listen and helped me create a space mixed with simplicity and sophistication for my 500sq studio apartment. She is also very responsive to emails and concerns. I've enlisted her help prior to the pandemic and at the height of it all, I had to make immediate changes to budget and style to suit the "new normal". Through it all, Ruchi listened to my concerns and was able to execute a great layout and design. We had open dialog about our differences and she always able to find the happy medium. Ruchi helped design our baby boy's nursery. She is extremely detail-oriented and on top of it. She is responsive and quick to help make decisions - which is especially important in the event of a new arrival to the family. The nursery is modern, stunning and peaceful. She successfully achieved the goal of a grey, natural nursery look that we had in mind, which we could have never done by ourselves! I highly recommend her for any project - small or large. I wish we had known about her sooner and will certainly be using her again!

Ruchi has an incredible eye for design and helped transform my West Village apartment into a beautiful, modern space. She worked under very tight time constraints and was able to pull together my entire space within weeks. Ruchi takes the time to understand your aesthetic and design needs and will work with you to create a space you love. She found pieces that fit the unique layout of my townhouse apartment perfectly while incorporating some of my favorite existing furniture. I am impressed with the job she was able to do within my budget and would highly recommend her for anyone looking to do a renovation, big or small.

I think my recommendation here depends on what you're looking for. If you like Ruchi's designs and want to go with her vision with minor input from you, I think you might find working with her to be pleasurable. In my case, I ended up discovering about halfway through that I really wanted to incorporate a particular chair and bed. Ruchi was wounded and became unprofessional, refusing to incorporate them or even send me the design files she'd made so far so I could continue on my own. So if you want some flexibility I would go with someone else as I would consider the money I spent on her services to have been entirely wasted.

We had a great experience and time working with Ruchi. I chose to work with Ruchi because over our phone interview, she not only went over project specs such as size and budget but she asked questions such as how much do i use the space, what feeling the space should evoke for me and if i have a pet that uses the space. My impression was that she was taking the inquiry seriously and was ready to go with working with me. I felt very reassured and have not been disappointed in putting my trust in her design expertise. The task was to provide a fresh look to our living room and dining room combination space, add a bar area in the dining room, and update the foyer. Ruchi was patient in working with us to decide on a color scheme (we chose shades of gray with pops of color such as yellow and red to match art pieces in the room). She helped us make realistic expectations and she was willing to work within and respect our budget. I especially liked that she was able to mix and match inexpensive pieces and help us spend more of the money in the areas we preferred such as on the sofa. Through her design choices and color selections, she has managed to make the narrow hallway feel bigger even with a wall of dark blue storage cabinets and for the dining room and bar area not to feel tight. We are in awe at how beautifully the place has turned out and can't wait to see the finished product when all the furniture pieces arrive. The project including contracting labor (but without design costs) will be around $15,000.

Ruchi is awesome - as a designer and as a person to work with. She had a great eye blending in my own style. While my space is not large, she suggested changes that opened it up. She helped select paint color, rug and furniture. Very happy with where we netted out. Most of all, she is great to work with - easy to share ideas while also having her own pov (she's usually right :)), she wanted to understand what I was looking for and has a great optimistic personality. Lastly, she is value-conscious ensuring we were not spending where we didn't need to. Plan to hire her again with no question.

Ruchi did a fantastic job with the redesign of our master bedroom and creation of a perfect nursery for our first child. She quickly understood our personal aesthetic and came up with a design that met it. At the same time, she pushed us to make choices we never would have made on our own (eg wallpaper in the nursery) and that really pulled the rooms together. She also made sure we met our budget and worked really quickly to get everything ready before baby. We recommend her highly and would happily work with her again!!

I worked with her during the renovation and redesign of the main floor of our house in Old Greenwich, CT. She designed a modern functional space for our family which took into consideration the existing layout and limitations that came with our old house.
