The Container Store Custom Closets

Be aware if you submit a complaint because the customer chat representative you submitted a complaint against, will intercept your message, in order to block you from reaching, contacting, or reporting them to someone else at the company. This will happen hours after the inital chat support had ended and after customer request to have no further interaction with that specific customer rep. Then management will blow up your phone and will gaslight you by downplaying the violation of customer privacy and confidentiality as a simple "poor choice" while they raise their voice at you, dispute your experience, and make you so stressed out you end up in tears and then they'll blame you for not taking their dismissive and toxic sorry excuse for an apology and tell you that you’re the problem.

We love our TCS closet so much! We decided to convert our guest room into a master closet/dressing room. We looked at California Closets, Transform, and a couple of other local companies. We went with TCS because we loved the craftsmanship and the display in the store. Some details: 1) LOVE the integrated lighting. We weren't sure if it would be worth it. It definitely is and makes the whole room. 2) Really love the details: built-in hampers, jewelry drawer, soft close and full extension drawers, thick panels. 3) I was nervous about going with TCS because they're fairly new and I didn't see a lot of reviews out there. The process went smoothly and was great, from design to install. 4) If you live in the NYC/metro area, you should go to the Ridge Hill location and work with Johanna Caceres. She is outstanding. 5) What's pictured here is Satin Oak finish, Shaker style.

I would never again use TCS. The whole process was a disaster. From them mid measuring and having to remeasure 3 more times, to the delivery missing key components. To the first installer not actually installing it’s correctly and finding out if there was an earthquake, the whole thing would collapse on me. Then them telling me it would take 2 weeks to get the rest of the parts while half my closet was all over my bedroom. Only because I made a stink did they find something by the end of the week. They sent another team out who did a better job, but still, the first guy ripped out base boards and threw them out. So I’m baseboardless still. Then, I think everything is fine until I get an email 2 months later saying they still need to collect money. What?? Why didn’t you run the card when it was completed? So much miscommunication and unnecessary back and forth between too many different groups of people. And it’s really not that much less than a California Closets. I should have just done it right the first time. Avoid TCS!!

Hello, I've been a religious fan of Container Store for the last 8 years. I've used Elfa storage for both of my kids rooms and have been very happy with CS service and quality of their products. So when TCS closets came on the market, I knew that I would be using that system for all my closets in our new 3 bedroom apartment. I hired Contained Home to make designs and ordered 3 TCS closets. My family was traveling when installers came in. Upon our return we found damaged walls, poorly cut baseboards, missing pieces of the shelving unit, misaligned pieces that were poorly glued together. On the top of everything a big part of the wall and baseboard was just shaved off to squeeze in the unit. After long negotiations , the damage was partially remediated by CS with a team of other installers. Though I still have to use my contractors to fix the wall with a missing piece of the baseboard. But that's not all... My understanding was that TSC closets are custom made for your unique spaces. Make no mistake, TCS are NOT CUSTOM MODE closets. These are modules that come in only 2 depths! One of my closet is HALF EMPTY! I thought it was a designer's mistake, but as I've been told that this is the only module/configuration that would fit in this closet between 2 version of TCS. I was very disappointed as I can't optimize my closet space and there is so much dead space left that is unusable and no longer practical. Do your research for custom made closet before hiring TCS. It's not custom made and should not be advertised as one.

The Container Store designs, sells, and installs Elfa custom storage systems. Online tool to estimate your personal storage needs is easy to use and accurate. The designer in the Clarendon, VA store worked with me personally, was experienced, professional, and enthusiastic. Excellent suggestions for the design and no "hard sell" of extra items. Designer listened to what I needed/wanted. Paid for installation & glad I did. The installer was fast, neat, friendly, & did a wonderful job. Cleaned up thoroughly. Everything fit as expected and I am delighted to have a closet that is exactly what I need with "room to grow". After everything was installed, I have moved some things (which is one of the advantages of Elfa...most drawers & shelves are movable if your needs change) and bought some additional drawers. Our NYC apt was built in 1890 so although full of charm, not always practical for modern times. Our bedroom closets are very oddly shaped and the previous tenants had two rods hanging in front of one another which made the closets virtually impenetrable when filled. I had heard good things about the Elfa system but didn't think I would like it b/c it seemed sort of cheap looking but since we don't own the apt, our options were limited and I didn't want to invest too too much. I was nervous that it would be a difficult process and I'd have to go back and forth to the store tons of times. I called to get some information and the design specialist informed me we could do the whole design over the phone. This was such good news b/c the store is not nearby and I also had the added benefit of being able to look at the closets as we created the design and needed to make various revisions. The design specialist was extremely knowledgable and helpful and came up with fantastic solutions for our oddly shaped closet spaces. She would email me the design plans so I could instantaneously see the "sketch" and make any needed modifications on the spot. Once I decided on the designs that worked for me aesthetically, practically and financially, an installer came and expertly installed them. There was one issue with one of the walls that was concave (did I mention its an old building?) so I called the design specialist and the three of us came up with some great alternatives. I love my new closets! Ok so they're not made of beautiful wood but rather ventilated epoxy-bonded steel, but I still love them. The closets are so well organized and I can see my stuff now! Great use of challenging spaces.

I love my elfa closet. The designers were really great at incorporating my previously owned pieces into a new design which saved me a couple hundred dollars. I would recommend Elfa to everyone.

I had them do two custom closets for me. They assisted in the design and they did the installation. Very happy with the result. I think their prices are much better than the closet specialty retailers. I would use them again.

We purchased and moved into a home over the Christmas holidays. We were over the moon about finally having our own place and not having to rent anymore. The home we found was absolutely beautiful and we couldn't wait to call it our own. Until, that is, the day we actually got to move in and discovered that the sellers had stolen almost $40K worth of attached fixtures throughout the home and had left our new house a damaged wreck. There wasn't even a single hanging bar left in any closet and we were lucky to have even one light bulb in most rooms. We were devastated. We knew that all of the closets had been originally designed by The Container Store, so off we trudged to try to figure out what would be necessary to have the closets put back together. The staff there was AMAZING!!! In addition to being incredibly empathetic to our situation, they spent a lot of time helping us figure out what would be needed to put our closets back together. We explained up front that there was no way we could afford to do anything but buy a piece at a time over the next many months of paydays, but they were still incredibly willing to help us and even spent time helping us tweak the plans to be more accommodating to what our own family's needs are. Several weeks after initially meeting with us, we even got a phone call from our designer to see how we were doing and if there was anything additional she could hep us with. I will forever be a customer! I highly recommend The Container Store!!!

We took advantage of 30% off Elfa sale with purchasing new master closet organization system. The measurements were slightly altered with design consultant resulting in some uncertainty with placement of main track that resulted in covering up holes with spackle and repainting. Directions/video online helpful. Telephoning consultants somewhat helpful. With future purchase I would make sure that I clarify hight of track with consultant. Overall, system looks great and functions well.

Had Container Store's Elfa closet system installed in a walk-in bedroom closet. Talked to a closet designer on the phone, and provided closet dimensions. The designer was able to provide a mock-up that I could review on my computer. I then went to the store to see the materials to be used. Talked to another designer in the store who modified and improved the original design. Had the products for the new closet delivered and a professional, provided by the company, install the new closet system. The system was installed perfectly, just as was described in the store. One minor problem: was quoted one price by phone and a different price in store. Problem was solved.

wonderful store full of great options to organize any space; reasonable prices; the options are so many and so varied it is hard to pin down where to start, but my kitchen looks better and so does my craft room
