For the past 20 years, Urban Lighting Inc. in San Diego has had the pleasure of working with Bill Bocken on various commercial and residential projects all of which are a testament to Bills ability to fall within budget while maintaining a sense of style and detail. We gave Bill the task of trying to transform our mediocre Tuscan Villa into a showplace. He exceeded our expectations! He walked into our home and within five minutes he was able to create a vision that we would never have been able to do on our own. He just got it. He was able to understand what we loved about the house, and what needed to be changed. He was available when we were in construction crisis mode, or when we needed a reassuring opinion on something. We are so happy to have worked with Bill! He worked on our 1940's home and completely transformed it. Bill is efficient, a visionary, practical, and has follow through. He was involved in every detail of the home, down to the color of our grout. What I loved most about Bill is that he has great taste and I love his personal style, which tells me a lot about an architect. He always suggested choices that were high quality and nothing he does ever looks cheap. Bill is extremely creative and in several situations, found a solution where we thought there was none. We were fairly opinionated as clients and Bill rolled with it, either persuading us toward another decision or seeing our side. There is nothing in this home that I would have done differently and we will hire Bill for any future changes. Bill is the creative force behind the renovation of a classic Cliff May Hacienda. His vision and sense of aesthetic style have unified a timeless design with modern livability. Bill's knowledge about the time period has helped to integrate the original design layout with much needed enhancement of the living space organization. He has guided this project and brought the contractor and us into his vision to realize the potential of our home. My husband and I purchased half a floor (4200 square-foot) condominium space in a luxury highrise builidng in downtown San Diego. The space was entirely unimproved, consisting of just the concrete slab floor and exterior windows (no interior dividing walls and no electrical or plumbing fixtures). Contraints abounded, from the limited plumbing locations to the challenging shape of the space. Bill Bocken worked with us to create a brilliant plan and helped us with all of the details throughout the construction and finishing process. The end result was one of the best spaces in San Diego. More importantly, every aspect of our home fits our family's needs and desires perfectly. Bill is patient, understanding, knowledgeable, creative, and quick with solutions. When unexpected problems arose, he made lemonade out of lemons. Even though our contractor was a disaster, the end result was spectacular. In an industry where it is rare to feel happy about a professional, Bill is a standout. Of all the professionals in all the fields we've worked with over the decades, Bill is the professional I am most confident in recommending.

With his uncanny ability to turn ugly ducklings into swans, Bill Bocken's talent as an architect is celebrated by his clients, as well as those who are fortunate enough to be the subsequent owners of homes he has renovated for himself. He creates spaces that are visually stunning and superbly livable. Most importantly, he listens to his clients and guides their choices to the best possible outcomes. Bill did the design and architecture on an amazing contemporary 3000 sq ft whole house remodel in Mission Hills, San Diego. San Diego Home and Garden Magazine selected this project as their 2010 whole house remodel of the year, and the house was featured on the 2012 San Diego Dwell Home Tour. The project has also been in multiple local and national publications, and is more perfect than we could have ever hoped for. Bill was the genius behind our dream home, thank you Bill!!!
