Our clients are a family with three young kids. They wanted to open up and expand their kitchen so their kids could have space to move around, and it gave our clients the opportunity to keep a close eye on the children during meal preparation and remain involved in their activities. By relocating their laundry room, removing some interior walls, and moving their downstairs bathroom we were able to create a beautiful open space. The LaCantina doors and back patio we installed really open up the space even more and allow for wonderful indoor-outdoor living. Keeping the historic feel of the house was important, so we brought the house into the modern era while maintaining a high level of craftsmanship to preserve the historic ambiance. The bar area with soapstone counters with the warm wood tone of the cabinets and glass on the cabinet doors looks exquisite.

A young family moving from NYC to their first house in Westchester County found this spacious colonial in Mt. Kisco New York. With sweeping lawns and total privacy, the home offered the perfect setting for raising their family. The dated kitchen was gutted but did not require any additional square footage to accommodate a new, classic white kitchen with polished nickel hardware and gold toned pendant lanterns. 2 dishwashers flank the large sink on either side, with custom waste and recycling storage under the sink. Middlefork was retained to update and revitalize this North Shore home to a family of six. The primary goal of this project was to update and expand the home's small, eat-in kitchen. The existing space was gutted and a 1,500-square-foot addition was built to house a gourmet kitchen, connected breakfast room, fireside seating, butler's pantry, and a small office. The family desired nice, timeless spaces that were also durable and family-friendly. As such, great consideration was given to the interior finishes. The 10' kitchen island, for instance, is a solid slab of white velvet quartzite, selected for its ability to withstand mustard, ketchup and finger-paint. There are shorter, walnut extensions off either end of the island that support the children's involvement in meal preparation and crafts. Low-maintenance Atlantic Blue Stone was selected for the perimeter counters. The scope of this phase grew to include re-trimming the front façade and entry to emphasize the Georgian detailing of the home. In addition, the balance of the first floor was gutted; existing plumbing and electrical systems were updated; all windows were replaced; two powder rooms were updated; a low-voltage distribution system for HDTV and audio was added; and, the interior of the home was re-trimmed. This renovation shows a complete transformation of the layout and performance of the basement. The floors throughout the basement were re-finished with a luxury vinyl plank flooring. The pre-existing laundry room was eliminated and the space was altered to include a walk-up bar, featuring a black laminate countertop and floating shelves. The 3-piece bathroom was fully gutted and upgraded with new fixtures. Carpenters added a book shelf niche and all windows were upgraded. Pot lights and ceiling tiles were replaced along with carpet runners and a fresh paint job.

This 2-story home with first-floor owner’s suite includes a 3-car garage and an inviting front porch. A dramatic 2-story ceiling welcomes you into the foyer where hardwood flooring extends throughout the main living areas of the home including the dining room, great room, kitchen, and breakfast area. The foyer is flanked by the study to the right and the formal dining room with stylish coffered ceiling and craftsman style wainscoting to the left. The spacious great room with 2-story ceiling includes a cozy gas fireplace with custom tile surround. Adjacent to the great room is the kitchen and breakfast area. The kitchen is well-appointed with Cambria quartz countertops with tile backsplash, attractive cabinetry and a large pantry. The sunny breakfast area provides access to the patio and backyard. The owner’s suite with includes a private bathroom with 6’ tile shower with a fiberglass base, free standing tub, and an expansive closet. The 2nd floor includes a loft, 2 additional bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms.
