This stunning living room showcases large windows with a lake view, cathedral ceilings with exposed wood beams, and a gas double-sided fireplace with a custom blend of Augusta and Quincy natural ledgestone thin veneer. Quincy stones bring a variety of grays, blues, and tan tones to your stone project. The lighter colors help contrast the darker tones of this stone and create depth in any size project. The golden veins add some highlights the will brighten your project. The stones are rectangular with squared edges that are great for creating a staggered brick look. Most electronics and appliances blend well with this stone. The rustic look of antiques and various artwork are enhanced with Quincy stones in the background.

It is sometimes a surprise what beauty can lurk under the surface of a room. A client with a 1970s kitchen and eat-in area cut up by an unwieldy peninsula was desperate for it to reflect her love of all things English-and-French-Manor-Home. Working closely with my client, we removed the peninsula in favor of a lovely free-standing island that we painted a shade of French Blue. This is topped with Old World sink hardware (note the ceramic HOT and COLD medallions on the faucets!) and a gorgeous marble counter with a very special edge profile that evokes an antique French Boulangerie counter from the 1910s. Pendants with patinaed metal shades over the island further the charming Old World feel. Handmade white and blue tiles laid in a quilted diamond pattern cover the backsplash, and the remainder of the cabinetry at the perimeter is in a warm cream tone. The eat-in near the fireplace got a cozy treatment with custom seat cushions and window seat bench cushions in a classic blue-and-white Toile de Jouy matching the island stools. The nearby living room got a similar treatment. We removed dark wood paneling and dark carpeting in favor of a light sky blue wall and lighter wood flooring. A new rug with the appearance of an heirloom, a new grand-scaled sofa, and some of my client’s precious antiques helped take the room from 70s rec room to English Sitting Room. La mansarda è sempre stato un ambiente suggestivo: l’intreccio delle travi in legno e la forma avvolgente della copertura è un immediato richiamo alla natura e i suoi colori. Il progetto ha creato ambienti fluidi e puliti con la muratura ridotta all’essenziale per una casa versatile da vivere in tanti modi ed occasioni diverse. L’ingresso si apre direttamente su un ambiente openspace con la zona pranzo, un angolo studio e la zona relax con divani e tv. Due balconi illuminano lo spazio. La parete di fondo è messa in evidenza da un deciso blu ottanio, un forte richiamo al colore del cielo, esaltato dal contrasto con il bianco e con le tonalità del legno. L’arredamento è misurato: elementi bianchi per il tavolo da pranzo e per la madia in legno. Sulla parete blu, il mobile è composto da una base che si ancora al suolo e elementi che si liberano nella parte alta della parete caratterizzata dalla forma triangolare del tetto. Il controllo sulle forme ed il contrasto dei colori esalta la forza vitale dello spazio.

The large living/dining room opens to the pool and outdoor entertainment area through a large set of sliding pocket doors. The walnut wall leads from the entry into the main space of the house and conceals the laundry room and garage door. A floor of terrazzo tiles completes the mid-century palette.

Fireplace redone in stacked stone. We demolished the dilapidated old red brick fireplace and replaced it with a new wood-burning unit. We centered it on the wall. The floating mantel will be installed this month.

Our Austin studio decided to go bold with this project by ensuring that each space had a unique identity in the Mid-Century Modern style bathroom, butler's pantry, and mudroom. We covered the bathroom walls and flooring with stylish beige and yellow tile that was cleverly installed to look like two different patterns. The mint cabinet and pink vanity reflect the mid-century color palette. The stylish knobs and fittings add an extra splash of fun to the bathroom. The butler's pantry is located right behind the kitchen and serves multiple functions like storage, a study area, and a bar. We went with a moody blue color for the cabinets and included a raw wood open shelf to give depth and warmth to the space. We went with some gorgeous artistic tiles that create a bold, intriguing look in the space. In the mudroom, we used siding materials to create a shiplap effect to create warmth and texture – a homage to the classic Mid-Century Modern design. We used the same blue from the butler's pantry to create a cohesive effect.
