The existing 70's styled kitchen needed a complete makeover. The original kitchen and family room wing included a rabbit warren of small rooms with an awkward angled family room separating the kitchen from the formal spaces. The new space plan required moving the angled wall two feet to widen the space for an island. The kitchen was relocated to what was the original family room enabling direct access to both the formal dining space and the new family room space. The large island is the heart of the redesigned kitchen, ample counter space flanks the island cooking station and the raised glass door cabinets provide a visually interesting separation of work space and dining room. The contemporized Arts and Crafts style developed for the space integrates seamlessly with the existing shingled home. This was a fun re-model with a fun-loving homeowner. Know locally as 'the 50's guy' the homeowner wanted his kitchen to reflect his passion for that decade. Using Northstar appliances from Elmira Stove Works was just the beginning. We complemented the bright red of the appliances with white cabinets and black counters. Beautiful galley kitchen and great room. The trick was tying the two spaces together. We did this by using white with brown glaze cabinets on the island and entertainment center, with Golden Crystal granite on both. This San Diego, California kitchen remodel was designed in a small rectangular space. The kitchen is highlighted with granite countertops, green subway tiling, black appliances and a custom ornate kitchen sink.

This transitional style kitchen has a 3-level island which provides seating, additional storage and breaks up the large scale of the island. With the open plan, the 2 large appliance garages help supplement wall cabinet storage and help block the view of the sink in this multi-level island. Cherry cabinets, honed granite, slate backsplash and Kenya Reed Lumicore door inserts add texture and pattern. The large circular pulls are custom but the remainder are stock pulls.
