We partnered up with Furtado Contracting to update the kitchen in this stunning 100 year old house in Vancouver. The vision was to freshen up the dated cabinetry and countertops to a style that would lend well to the age of the home, while providing more storage and new appliances. Layout: The gas range was previously hidden from the dining room by a pony wall. It was decided early on to remove the pony wall, opening the space visually while providing added counter space behind the range. The removal of the pony wall also allowed us to add additional storage on the dining room side of the kitchen. The fridge was the next item to be relocated. Previously encroaching into the walkway, the fridge was previously placed where our new microwave lives. The fridge now sits in the perfect spot, next to a narrow open-self cabinet which was another wish list from the client, to display bottles and decorative items. Storage in this kitchen increased by mounting the upper cabinets to the ceiling and improving the lower cabinets by adding more drawers and interior accessories like pullouts, spice storage and a super-susan in the base-corner cabinet. Materials: The materials used were extra important to this renovation to ensure we complimented the age of the home. To achieve the right look, shaker doors were used on all cabinets. The painted white cabinets were constructed of a Maple species and painted in Benjamin Moores ‘Silver Satin’. On the base cabinets, a Cherry species was used in a warm stain. To brighten up the room, Caesarstone countertops in ‘Frosty Carrina’ were paired with a white tile in a subway pattern from Olympia Tile. The details on the crown moulding, door-style panels, cabinetry hardware, kitchen faucet and pendant light fixture are what made this space feel warm and welcoming for the 21st century.

We adore this kitchen for many reasons. It is a spin on the traditional shaker, by making the styles and rails much slimmer it gives it a very modern / contemporary look and feel. We also mixed in the rustic oak panels to add some warmth. The wall cabinets with the glass doors looking right through onto the beautiful tiles. The banquet seating which has bespoke upholstery works fantastically well for the whole family. The walk in pantry helps to keep the main kitchen clutter free. The room is completed by a tunnel book case matched in the same oak.

We were lucky enough to work with our client on the renovation of their whole house in South West London, they came to us for a 'turn-key' Interior Design service, the project took over two years to complete and included a basement dig out. This was a family home so not only did it need to look beautiful, it also needed to be practical for the two children. We took full advantage of the clients love of colour, giving each space it's own individual feel whilst maintaining a cohesive scheme throughout the property.

Speaking for itself, this spectacular kitchen is an icon of what a kitchen today should look like. To spotlight the owners’ worldly decor, this remodel quietly complements the furniture and art textures, colors, and patterns abundant in this beautiful home. The original master bath had a 1980s style in dire need of change. By stealing an adjacent bedroom for the new master closet, the bath transformed into an artistic and spacious space. The jet-black herringbone-patterned floor adds visual interest to highlight the freestanding soaking tub. Schoolhouse-style shell white sconces flank the matching his and her vanities. The new generous master shower features polished nickel dual shower heads and hand shower and is wrapped in Bedrosian Porcelain Manifica Series in Luxe White with satin finish. The kitchen started as dated and isolated. To add flow and more natural light, the wall between the bar and the kitchen was removed, along with exterior windows, which allowed for a complete redesign. This beautiful kitchen is Thyme & Place Design's take on modern farmhouse style. White painted full access custom cabinets frame the perimeter of the space and a custom soft gray paint adorns the island cabinetry. The former kitchen felt tight and lacked style while this new kitchen has attitude to spare. Sub Zero and Wolf appliances set the stage for a cooks delight. An antique barn beam was used to create the mantle and corbels for an updated version of a mantle hood. Ample storage for everything a gourmet cook could want was provided. Deep drawers hold all the pots and pans for daily cooking. Pull out storage holds oil and vinegar bottles for instant recipe inspiration. A magic corner cabinet allows access to mixing bowls and colanders. Extra height wall cabinet storage contains several sets of dishes and most used foods at the cook’s fingertips. The island does double duty providing seating for extra guests, presenting a large expanse of countertop for all types of cooking prep. There is a microwave drawer for quick reheats and the most coveted by a baker, a built-in mixer lift. Behind the island, an oversized glass door pantry closet holds everything from pantry staples, to holiday dishes and oversized cooking and serving pieces. The dining area found a renewed sense of purpose with the removal of walls which cut it off from the rest of the home. New sky lights and a updated sliding door flood the space with light and open the view to the beautiful yard. A coffee bar was added which includes additional dish storage and a beverage center. Black ebonized maple with honey bronze hardware is a dramatic balance to the white and grey of the kitchen. The space was further opened to the family room which is now an integrated part of the family’s gatherings. Honey Bronze accents are repeated in the light fixtures over the island and as an accent on the sconces above the coffee bar.

A detached Edwardian villa set over three storeys, with the master suite on the top floor, four bedrooms (one en-suite) and family bathroom on the first floor and a sitting room, snug, cloakroom, utility, hall and kitchen-diner leading to the garden on the ground level. With their children grown up and pursuing further education, the owners of this property wanted to turn their home into a sophisticated space the whole family could enjoy. Although generously sized, it was a typical period property with a warren of dark rooms that didn’t suit modern life. The garden was awkward to access and some rooms rarely used. As avid foodies and cooks, the family wanted an open kitchen-dining area where the could entertain their friends, with plentiful storage and a connection to the garden. Our design team reconfigured the ground floor and added a small rear and side extension to open the space for a huge kitchen and dining area, with a bank of Crittall windows leading to the garden (redesigned by Ruth Willmott). Ultra-marine blue became the starting point for the kitchen and ground floor design – this fresh hue extends to the garden to unite indoors and outdoors. Bespoke cabinetry designed by HUX London provides ample storage, and on one section beautiful fluted glass panels hide a TV. The cabinetry is complemented by a spectacular book-matched marble splash-back, and timber, parquet flooring, which extends throughout the ground floor. The open kitchen area incorporates a glamorous dining table by Marcel Wanders, which the family use every day. Now a snug, this was the darkest room with the least going for it architecturally. A cool and cosy space was created with elegant wall-panelling, a low corner sofa, stylish wall lamps and a wood-burning stove. It’s now ¬the family’s favourite room, as they gather here for movie nights. The formal sitting room is an elegant space where the family plays music. A sumptuous teal sofa, a hand-knotted silk and wool rug and a vibrant abstract artwork bring a fresh feel. This teenager’s bedroom with its taupe palette, luxurious finishes and study area has a grown-up vibe, and leads to a gorgeous marble-clad en-suite bathroom. The couple now have their own dedicated study, with a streamlined double desk and bespoke cabinetry. In the master suite, the sloping ceilings were maximised with bespoke wardrobes by HUX London, while a calming scheme was created with soft, neutral tones and rich textures.

This kitchen is the perfect space to prepare meals and for family gatherings. Custom lighting features; under cabinet lighting, in-cabinet lighting, and large fixtures above one island. Under the large stainless steel vent hood is an amazing gas stove... perfect for those gourmet meals. A TV above the refrigerator will help to keep you connected.
