This true mid-century modern home was ready to be revived. The home was built in 1959 and lost its character throughout the various remodels over the years. Our clients came to us trusting that with our help, they could love their home again. This design is full of clean lines, yet remains playful and organic. The first steps in the kitchen were removing the soffit above the previous cabinets and reworking the cabinet layout. They didn't have an island before and the hood was in the middle of the room. They gained so much storage in the same square footage of kitchen. We started by incorporating custom flat slab walnut cabinetry throughout the home. We lightened up the rooms with bright white countertops and gave the kitchen a 3-dimensional emerald green backsplash tile. In the hall bathroom, we chose a penny round floor tile, a terrazzo tile installed in a grid pattern from floor-to-ceiling behind the floating vanity. The hexagon mirror and asymmetrical pendant light are unforgettable. We finished it with a frameless glass panel in the shower and crisp, white tile. In the master bath, we chose a wall-mounted faucet, a full wall of glass tile which runs directly into the shower niche and a geometric floor tile. Our clients can't believe this is the same home and they feel so lucky to be able to enjoy it every day.

This contemporary bathroom design in Jackson, MI combines unique features to create a one-of-a-kind style. The dark, rich finish Medallion Gold vanity cabinet with furniture style feet is accented by Top Knobs hardware. The cabinetry is topped by a Cambria luxury white quartz countertop with dramatic black and gold accents. The homeowner added towels and accessories to bring out these color accents, creating a striking atmosphere for this bathroom. Details are key in creating a unique bathroom design, like the TEC glitter grout that accents the gray CTI porcelain floor tile. The large alcove shower is a highlight of this space, with a frameless glass hinged door and built-in shower bench. The Delta showerheads are sure to make this a place to relax with a combination of handheld and standard showerheads along with body sprays.

This is part of a whole home remodel we completed and featured in the Home Builder's Association Showcase of Remodeled Homes. The old bathroom was cramped and crowded. There was a wall at the end of the vanity with no real purpose. The toilet was next to the bathtub/shower unit. Our redesign took out that wall and swapped the toilet to the other side. The clients wanted a soaking tub and a stand-alone tiled shower, so we put the shower in where the toilet used to be. The shower is a tiled in shower, with two large cubbies for shampoos, etc and a diagonal bench seat in the back corner. It is tiled with a matter 3"x6" subway tile. The fixtures are a clean chrome finish. It is closed in by a glass surround expertly done by our friends at Twin Bay Glass. The tub was replaced with a deep soaking acrylic tub that was surrounded by two walls of matte subway tile and one wall of custom built tigerwood which is a beautiful exotic hardwood that was sealed and varnished to withstand the water. The tub fixtures of course match the shower and are a nice clean finish. The old ceiling texture was scraped and sanded and painted white. The walls were painted Painter's white. New lighting and a new ceiling fan were installed to update the room and help it function more efficiently. Photo by Laura Cavendish

浴室リフォームのデザイン、レイアウト、費用

浴室リフォームの技法には大きく分けて「在来工法」と「ユニットバス (システムバス)」の2通りがあります。

在来工法：「在来工法」とは、壁、床、窓枠、浴槽などを実際の現場で左官、大工、タイル職人等が作り上げていく技法で、浴室の大きさや形に合わせて自由にレイアウトをデザインできたり、趣のあるタイルで壁を演出することができたりといった点が利点と言えます。昔ながらのこの技法には、費用が高い、工期が長い、年数が経つと水漏れの心配がある、などの注意点があります。
ユニットバス（システムバス）：比較的新しいこの技法は、予め工場で生産されたパーツ (壁、バスタブ、シャワーユニットなど) を現場で組み立てていく技法で、防水性、断熱性に優れ、工期を短縮できるだけでなく、費用も大幅に抑えることができます。在来工法と比べると、デザインやレイアウトの自由度が低い点が欠点としてあげられます。

浴室にプラスアルファでお風呂タイムをもっと楽しく

介護が必要な方には、浴室に浴槽手すりやシャワーチェア、すべり止めマットなどの安全グッズを使って、癒やしの時間を安全にゆっくりと楽しんでもらいましょう。浴室に床暖房を取り入れると、冬場のあのヒンヤリ感がなくなり、ヒートショックの防止に効果が期待できます。大粒のお湯が頭上から降り注ぐように全身を包み込むレインシャワー水栓は、効率的に身体を温めてくれます。また最近では、浴室テレビを装備して、あたたかいお湯に浸かりながらテレビ番組や映画を楽しむ方も増えています。ライフスタイルにあわせて、浴室をカスタマイズしてみてはいかがでしょうか？

ラクラク片付け、快適な浴室！

シャンプーやコンディショナーのボトルや、浴槽洗いのブラシは、ワイヤーラック、つっぱりコーナーラック、吸盤シェルフなど壁面収納グッズを活用して、浴室の使いやすい場所に設置しましょう。ボディスポンジなど、肌に触れるものはお掃除グッズから離れた場所に置き、しっかり水切りができるよう吸盤フックなどにかけるといいでしょう。また、浴室内には必要なアイテムだけをセレクトして置き、余分なモノは浴室外の脱衣所の棚に保管するなどの工夫も、お風呂場を清潔に保つコツです。風呂ふたも、フックやスタンド等を使って収納し、しっかり乾燥させれば、カビやぬめりの発生を防ぐことができます。

ホテルのようなバスルームをつくるコツ

ホテルライクなバスルームに誰しもが憧れたことがあるでしょう。すっきりとした収納、余計なものやプライベート感がない、トイレとバスが一緒の三点ユニットでも清潔感があるのがホテルのバスルームの特徴です。このようなシンプルな印象のバスルームにするコツは、収納をできるかぎり1カ所にまとめるということです。タオルや着替え、トイレットペーパーや洗剤など溢れがち (しかもバスルームに置きがち) な日用品のストックは、必要分だけをコンパクトに整理して、同素材や同系色の収納ボックスやラックにまとめることで、全体を統一感ある印象に見せます。ところで、このようなホテルライクなバスルームはアメリカのバスルームが元になっていますが、アメリカの Houzz サイトの特集記事 (Story) には、“Bathroom 1 1/2” や “Bathroom 3/4” などと表記されているものがあります。これは、バスルームを「バスタブ」、「シャワー」、「トイレ」、「洗面台」の4つ分けて、それぞれ 1/4 と考え、4つすべてある場合は ”Bathroom 1”、それに加えてトイレと洗面台がもう1カ所ずつある場合は “Bathroom 1 1/2”、シャワー、トイレ、洗面台だけでバスタブがない場合は “Bathroom 3/4” のように表現されます。
