Well, here it goes. I just purchased my first home and am looking for some color scheme advice. Below is pictures of the living room. I was thinking something like a light grey. However, the issue I seem to run into has do do with the wood trim and the shadow boxes. I am not sure how to go about selecting a color scheme that would work with the wood floor. Any ideas are much appreciated.

One last thing, although I love gray walls, I would do yours in a warm beige to compliment your green couches. Earth tones like green, brown, wheat and rust look great together. think Fall in New England.

I would remove all that chair rail and faux wainscot trim. Paint the walls Light gray would be cool!

多分見た感じでイタリアでヒットされたのであればベネチアンスタッコ（漆喰）下地に塗装で仕上げたものだと思います。壁面と床の際にグレー色の部分がありますので、グレーは漆喰の下地でしょう。イタリアでは多い仕上げで、この様な仕上げの住居を何件か見た事あります。

天井についている蛍光灯をシャンデリアに変更する場合

天井にぴったり付いている蛍光灯ですね。3つのことを考えなければなりません。 ①電源の供給は「直結」か、「引っ掛けシーリング」か ②天井にどのように止まっているのか ③蛍光灯を外した時に天井に跡が残らないかどうかまずは①から。これがわからないということですよね。可能であれば、写真を載せてください。器具を見てわかる範囲でお答えできるかと思います。さて、「直結」というのは、天井から出ている電線に照明器具の電線を直接つないでいる状態をいいます。このような場合には、電気工事士の資格のある人だけが照明器具の交換ができます。ご自身で工事することはできませんのでお近くの電気工事店に依頼をしてくださいね。「引っ掛けシーリング」であれば、何らかの方法で器具を外すことができるはずです。照明器具の品番がどこかに載っていませんか。あまり古くないものなら、メーカーのサイトで取扱説明書がダウンロードできる場合もあります。「引っ掛けシーリング」のほかに、「引っ掛けローゼット」という種類のものもあります。これは、引っ掛けシーリングのような丸い樹脂製の本体に金具がついていて、そこに照明器具をはめ込んで固定ができるタイプの物です。シャンデリアも商品や重量によっては、引っ掛けローゼットでないと取り付けられないこともあります。安全のためにもよく確認してから取り付けしてくださいね。次に、②です。直結の場合、照明器具によっては天井面にネジで止めているような場合もあります。この場合、ネジを外すと天井に穴が開きますので補修をしなければなりません。「引っ掛けシーリング」や「引っ掛けローゼット」でついている場合には、天井には止めていない器具だと思います。 ③です。引っ掛けシーリングで照明器具がついていても、天井にぴったりしている場合には照明器具の跡が黒くなっていることが多いです。壁紙の貼り替えや塗装なども視野に入れなければならないかもしれません。シャンデリアならば、シーリングメダリオンを付けて天井の汚れをかくしてしまうのも素敵ですね。軽量な物なら、ボンドと細い釘でご自分でも取り付け可能だと思います。メダリオンなど、室内装飾材料の大手のメーカーとしては「みはし」が有名です。一般の方がインターネットで購入できる商品とプロでないと購入できない商品が分かれていますので、ネットショップのアドレスを付けておきますね。

私もまさに今、新居のプランニングをしております！取り急ぎ、ソファだけは早めに欲しくて、グレーのソファーを購入してみたのですが、照明はこだわりたくてまだ決められていないんです。私はこういう照明にしてみたいなぁと思っています。（グリーンの照明は、Houzzのオフィスにもある照明なんです♪）あとやりたいのは、壁1面だけグレーか淡いブルーの壁紙にしてみたいと思っています。カーテンは、木製のブラインドにしたいなと思ったのですが、うちの場合は備え付けのものが付いていて、ちょっと断念しようかなと思っています付け替えると既存のカーテンの保管場所を見つけなくちゃいけないので^^; Chisaさんのお宅は、確かに下の部分の窓が素敵なので是非活かしたいですね！！！プロの方のアドバイス、私も聞いてみたいです！

株式会社ヒロデザインスタジオ様、貴重なアドバイスありがとうございました！和紙がユネスコ文化遺産にも登録されていたとは知らなかったです。以前スペインの小さな村に行ったときにわざわざ日本から和紙を輸入されて壁紙として使われている画廊がありました。やはり世界中で評価されているのですね！紫とグリーンのイメージがあまりできなかったのですが、[こんな写真[(https://www.houzz.jp/写真/garden-ornament-and-accessories-by-barnes-walker-landscape-architecture-manchester-phvw-vp~16839735)を見つけました（和ではないですが、、、）！グリーンが引きだって素敵です。「Kartell(イタリア)」のグリーンのチェアだと今の無垢のテーブルだと合わないかもしれないですね。テーブルも合わせて考えてみます！西陣織はおっしゃるとおり、アクセントに素敵ですよね。取り扱いのある会社さんを探してみます。どうもありがとうございました！

Even though it's a dark stain? So you would recommend moving the faux wainscoting. I am looking at Network Grey. Or do you think darker? what color would you paint the fireplace?

If you're going to paint the walls light gray I would recommend Gray Owl Benjamin Moore. It's a true gray and very light. It works well with any color palette. Network gray has blue undertones and will make the room appear blue depending on the light in your room. I would paint the fireplace a charcoal gray. Good luck!

Agree with wildcat blue! It will look more modern not to mention easier to paint the whole wall. Paint the crown the dark charcoal like the fireplace. However, if that fireplace doesn't really put out heat I'd take it out as well. Paint those pipes the same as the wall. Why are the there anyway?

you could paint all the trim white. thats what i would do. if you prefer not to, then paint the walls gray. its the closest neutral color that wont look bad with dark stained wood.

paint the wainscoting white or a darker gray color.

it depends on if you want it to look like every other gray modern looking house or if you want something quirky and unique or whatever. knowing that, that would help

Let's do this the easy way. The first thing to choose is an area rug. One that picks up the color of your existing furniture but adds more colors. Your space will look larger if you use an area rug that all the furniture sits on. The rug is your color anchor.

Th next step is matching the wall and trim color to the rug. In the top example we used two tones of soft yellow. Lighter above the chair rail, darker below, the off white tint of the same yellow on the trim, fireplace and ceiling. Add a bit of your wall color to your ceiling paint to take out the blue tint. Or paint the ceiling another color. It is the 5th wall. Make it easy, choose your rug first. www.CompanyC.com is a great place to start.

I think the brown looks great with gray. I would paint the walls. Leave the floors and the trim alone.

Remove all the trim boxes below the chair rail....paint everything a soft white upper and lower including the fireplace it will give it a fresh modern feel.....add a rug to ground the space...if you give us a floor plan...just draw it out on paper we can help with furniture placement....will you be keeping all the furniture? What color is the sofas? Grey?

I agree with the above advice in that leave all the trim but paint it and the walls a light paint hue and just do eveyrting the same color....I even think you can paint out the stained wood trim but that is up to you; either way works.

Please sell the love seat or put it in your office, bedroom etc.....ditto the cocktail table. Acutally invest in an afternoon at Pottery Barn for some inspiration and they have free design advice, room arrangement etc. Add a pair of chairs with some interet in them, matching somewhat or contrast. Then accessorize what you have along the lines of Pottery Barn; they do a nice neutral masculine look that is comfortable and welcoming.

Like this maybe? Paint, lights, lamps, rug, strong design throw pillows, prints....all of this can be found at IKEA if you are doing budget but Pottery Barn lasts forever and is timeless.

Pottery Barn has free design service so you can get a lot of info from them and only buy a rug or pillows or lamps....and I think they are having a sale now too. Good luck.
