DOWNLOAD NOW   The homeowners of this mid-century Colonial and family of four were frustrated with the layout of their existing kitchen which was a small, narrow peninsula layout but that was adjoining a large space that they could not figure out how to use. Stealing part of the unused space seemed like an easy solution, except that there was an existing transition in floor height which made that a bit tricky. The solution of bringing the floor height up to meet the height of the existing kitchen allowed us to do just that. This solution also offered some challenges. The exterior door had to be raised which resulted in some exterior rework, and the floor transition had to happen somewhere to get out to the garage, so we ended up “pushing” it towards what is now a new mudroom and powder room area. This solution allows for a small but functional and hidden mudroom area and more private powder room situation. Another challenge of the design was the very narrow space. To minimize issues with this, we moved the location of the refrigerator into the newly found space which gave us an L-shaped layout allowing for an island and even some shallow pantry storage. The windows over the kitchen sink were expanded in size and relocated to allow more light into the room. A breakfast table fits perfectly in the area adjacent to the existing French doors and there was even room for a small bar area that helps transition from inside to outside for entertaining. The confusing unused space now makes sense and provides functionality on a daily basis. To help bring some calm to this busy family, a pallet of soft neutrals was chosen -- gray glass tile with a simple metal accent strip, clear modern pendant lights and a neutral color scheme for cabinetry and countertops. Space planning in this kitchen space was essential. We focused on using smaller appliances like the 30" double oven with rang, an 18" dishwasher, and a narrow fridge to allow for more counter space.

A kitchen that was previously boxed in by bulkheads and a peninsula felt even smaller with stained oak cabinets and poor lighting. Light cabinets now fill the available wall space. Not only is there considerably more storage, but the kitchen looks far more open than before. Can lighting and under cabinet lighting provide plenty of general and task lighting.

Every inch counts when it comes to kitchen design; especially in Brooklyn, New York. This kitchen's footprint may be small, but it packs a lot of design punch! From our two toned cabinetry, the high end appliances, Thasos quartz countertops and matte black hardware... there is no surprise this unit sold for a pretty penny recently!

Anytime is wine time in this spacious modern kitchen. A wine fridge "lives" at the end of the island with more wine storage above the stainless steel refrigerator/freezer. In this kitchen renovation we installed Design Craft frameless cabinetry in the Mendocino door style with two decorative Designer Gold framed cabinets in the Gable door style in Maple with Amaretto stain with a custom panel for the refrigerator and dishwasher. Cambria Nevern quartz was installed on the countertops. Franke Oceania undermount stainless steel sink with Rohl metal lever modern Lux Kitchen pullout faucet in satin nickel with handspray and hose and a Rohl Luxury De Lux soap dispenser/lotion in satin nickel. Florium WS Slate 18x18 dark was installed on the floor.

This homeowner desired a modern kitchen with imperfections and character. We achieved this with clean frosted white Lunada Bay subway tile, dark stained hickory Yorktowne cabinets, grey Cambria countertop and light maple accents. The kitchen is accented with a stainless steel apron front sink and a beautifully industrial Brizo Artesso faucet. The homeowner’s own style and handmade table bring this whole space together in a wonderful juxtaposition of modern and farmhouse

The vaulted ceiling, structural beam in the living room and openings for the upper and lower levels created many challenges for the new kitchen design. We enclosed the lower level entry with partition walls, creating an entry to that staircase with a frosted glass door and walk-in pantry in the new kitchen area. The pantry gave the illusion of a symmetrical interior, but actually hides that partition. Additionally, the pantry opening creates the lines for the kitchen with dual islands. On the opposite end is the cooking area, surrounded by Thermador refrigerator and freezer towers. Flattening out the ceiling in the foyer area and adding custom shelving gives the foyer its own space, leaving the remainder for a harvest table and sitting area. Alicia Gbur Photography

This kitchen remodel was designed by Astrid from our Windham showroom. This kitchen features Yorktowne Iconic Cabinets with maple wood, Dixon flat panel door style and White Icing Classic paint finish (Kitchen) and Harbor Mist sheer paint finish (Island). Other cabinetry featured in this kitchen includes a wood hood, double wall oven, wine cube and tall bookcase. It also features Hanstone Quartz countertop with Italian waves and standard edge. This flooring is Bella Cera hardwood floors with Valerio color from their Villa Borghese collection. The backplash is Anatolis soho 4”x16” subway tile style in warm gray. Other features include Blanco White Apron front sink and Delta pull down faucet Brushed Nickel.

A need for extra counter space and fine wine service, creates a ‘JEWEL’ of a kitchen! As the artful anchor, the Emerald Glacier quartzite includes many shades of lush green, grey and red. Complimentary colors of natural cherry cabinets, warm walnut floors and surrounding Willow glass backsplash support the vibrant, playful colors creating an enhanced multifunctional space. Through the French doors behind the island is the dining room, conveniently close to the kitchen. I extended the granite countertop beneath the upper white cabinets so that family and friends can easily drop off their dishes as they enter the kitchen from the dining room after a meal.
