One large gathering space was created by removing the wall and combining the living and family rooms. The Colonial-style fireplace was transformed into a Pinterest-worthy feature by removing an adjoining closet, and adding a custom mantel and floating shelves. The shiplap treated wall pops with a coat of Glidden "Puddle Jumper."

No strangers to remodeling, the new owners of this St. Paul tudor knew they could update this decrepit 1920 duplex into a single-family forever home. A list of desired amenities was a catalyst for turning a bedroom into a large mudroom, an open kitchen space where their large family can gather, an additional exterior door for direct access to a patio, two home offices, an additional laundry room central to bedrooms, and a large master bathroom. To best understand the complexity of the floor plan changes, see the construction documents. As for the aesthetic, this was inspired by a deep appreciation for the durability, colors, textures and simplicity of Norwegian design. The home’s light paint colors set a positive tone. An abundance of tile creates character. New lighting reflecting the home’s original design is mixed with simplistic modern lighting. To pay homage to the original character several light fixtures were reused, wallpaper was repurposed at a ceiling, the chimney was exposed, and a new coffered ceiling was created. Overall, this eclectic design style was carefully thought out to create a cohesive design throughout the home. Come see this project in person, September 29 – 30th on the 2018 Castle Home Tour.

A lovely peaceful space for friends and family to gather. The flat screen TV is mounted above the fireplace and beside it is placed asymmetrically a built- in bookcase. The built in bookcase on the left balances the dramatic architectural element of the 2nd floor railing above. A large circular pendant light fixture adds charm and character to the room. For the painted brick wall, we decided to keep the decor fairly natural with pops of color via the plants and texture via the woven elements. Having the T.V. on the mantel place wasn’t ideal but it was practical. As mentioned, this is the where the family gathers to read, watch T.V. and to live life. The T.V. had to stay. Ideally, we had hoped to offset the T.V. a bit from the fireplace instead of having it directly above it but again functionality ruled over aesthetic as the cables only went so far. We made up for it by creating visual interest through Rebecca’s unique collection of pieces.

When you first walk into the Hurt’s home one of the first rooms that you see is straight ahead, the den. A small room, right off the kitchen and the sunroom the den is the gathering space for the family. Between the deep leather sofa and the cozy swivel chairs, there is a place for everyone to rest and to recline (including their 60 lb. puppy, Bacon!). The streams of sunlight that fill the space during the day along with the cheerful pops of color found in the oriental rug, bring a cheerfulness to the space while the calming sea-foam color on the walls help to ground it and provide a sense of peace.

A simple, unique bench sits in front of this large window for perfect natural light and color. This gray blue living room is light and airy with lots of unique pieces to personalize the space. Given the light colors, this space allows the perfect retreat for our client.

This charming Great Room was transformed into an inviting space for relaxation, reading, and socializing. This north-facing room comes to life with a rich colour scheme that also enhances the rich tones of the hardwood flooring, original to this cozy 1970's bungalow. Gone, however, are the bi-folding closet doors which too were original to the house -- they were replaced with sleek, sliding panels. By the time we were contacted to help our Clients with this decorating project, they had already begun the process, a few months prior, with the purchase of a cocktail table and side table, as well as a ceramic lamp. These accessories served as the starting point for the new room design, while inspiration came from the eclectic art collection that my Clients have acquired over the years, on their travels.
