This elegant kitchen is conveniently located in the center of the space, keeping the cook engaged with guests. The island's gray cabinetry provides contrast to the white kitchen cabinets, quartzite countertops, and marble backsplash. The cabinets fill the 9' ceiling volume with lit glass-front displays at the top. The stools coordinate with the table and chairs as well as the sunroom, all in easily cleanable performance fabric. The custom pendant lights are elegant in their simplicity with linen shades and brushed nickel finishes, ending with teardrop Swarovski crystals.

A charming 1920s colonial had a dated dark kitchen that was not in keeping with the historic charm of the home. The owners, who adored British design, wanted a kitchen that was spacious and storage friendly, with the feel of a classic English kitchen. Designer Sarah Robertson of Studio Dearborn helped her client, while architect Greg Lewis redesigned the home to accommodate a larger kitchen, new primary bath, mudroom, and butlers pantry.   Free ebook, Creating the Ideal Kitchen. DOWNLOAD NOW   This project started out as a kitchen remodel but ended up as so much more. As the original plan started to take shape, some water damage provided the impetus to remodel a small upstairs hall bath. Once this bath was complete, the homeowners enjoyed the result so much that they decided to set aside the kitchen and complete a large master bath remodel. Once that was completed, we started planning for the kitchen! The original kitchen was just large enough to accommodate an island and a separate pantry but felt a little cramped, especially during the weekends when the couple likes to entertain. The primary goal was to maintain the functionality of the current space, but to add some breathing room as well as to provide a view to the homeowner’s side yard and substantial Hosta garden. The solution was to bump out the space about 10 feet which provided ample room for large pro appliances, a large island for gathering and an upgraded pantry space. It was important to the homeowners to create a space that felt like it belonged in their historic 1866 home. Details such as matching new trim to the existing large custom profiles in the original home and re-purposing an existing door to be used for the new pantry, provided these touches. A large window at the main sink provides that view into the yard and a beautiful focal point for the room. A mix of painted wood and stained cabinetry gives the new kitchen a sense of belonging in the older home, as do the Super White quartzite that has the look of marble, subway tile backsplash, polished nickel lanterns and glass and mirrored doors. The large pantry, filled with custom shelving built to the homeowner’s specifications, stainless steel appliances and the two Galley Workstations – sinks that do double duty as prep space – ensure that not only does the kitchen look great, but also functions in a personalized manner that works perfectly for the occupants. Doing the bump out also allowed the opportunity for a small mudroom and powder room right off the kitchen as well as re-arranging some openings to allow for better traffic flow throughout the entire first floor. The result is a comfortable up-to-date home that feels both steeped in history yet allows for today’s style of living. We included ample countertop space for this family of four to invite friends and entertain large groups. Ten foot ceilings allowed for higher wall cabinets for a more dramatic space.

This beautiful kitchen evokes a Joie de vivre with its vaulted ceilings, rustic beam and soothing blend of materials. The LaCanche range and custom VentAHood are paired with painted cabinetry, quartz countertops and herringbone marble tile. Waterstone faucets and Hudson Valley pendants add the perfect accent touch. The adjacent dining room features a decorative built in hutch for serving and additional storage. A side alcove includes handy desks with a cozy center window seat.

An open concept kitchen overlooks the pool area. Dramatic herringbone wood look tile holds up to the high humidity and heavy traffic. Metallic faux leather barstools are detailed with nickel nailhead trim. Large double iron pendants over the island provide a delineation of the kitchen space.

An unfortunate water leak forced these homeowners to entertain a remodel of their kitchen. The previous kitchen had dark builder grade cabinets with little function and even less style. After some great exploratory conversations The words "classic, clean and functional" kept coming up. What's more classic then a white kitchen with marble? We didn't want the kitchen to appear sterile so we added dark grey cabinets for contrast and light grey counter tops to soften. Creating a focal point at the beautiful kitchen window and it's view were key. I tiled the whole wall in marble subway tile to really highlight the gorgeous natural stone. I used frosted glass in the cabinets so the light would come through, but the contents were still somewhat hidden. The butlers pantry tile has a geometric pattern for a bit more pop. The upper cabinet's decorative mullions are similar in style to the window cabinets. The homeowners like to cook and entertain so I packed a lot of function into the island. It houses the cook top with downdraft, spice pull out, knife/utensil pullout, and tray dividers. New bar stools and a dining set complete the look

Classic elegance with a fresh face characterizes this stunner, adorned in Benjamin Moore’s pale green “Vale Mist”. For a serene, cohesive look, the beadboard and casings are painted to match. Counters and backsplashes are subtly-veined Himalayan Marble. Flat panel inset cabinetry was enhanced with a delicate ogee profile and graceful bracket feet. Oak floors were artfully stenciled to form a diamond pattern with intersecting dots. Brushed brass fixtures and hardware lend old-world appeal with a stylish flourish. Balancing the formality are casual rattan bistro stools and dining chairs. A metal-rimmed glass tabletop allows full view of the curvaceous walnut pedestal. Tucked into the narrow end of the kitchen is a cozy desk. Its walnut top warms the space, while mullion glass doors contribute openness. Preventing claustrophobia is a frosted wheel-style oculus window to boost light and depth. A bold statement is made for the small hutch, where a neutral animal print wallpaper is paired with Benjamin Moore’s ruby-red semi-gloss “My Valentine” paint on cabinetry and trim. Glass doors display serving pieces. Juxtaposed against the saturated hue is the pop of a white marble counter and contemporary acrylic handles. What could have been a drab niche is now a jewel box!
