The red oak flooring continues into the foyer. We refinished the wood on the staircase and stained the handrail to blend beautifully with the new flooring that now runs throughout the first floor. We tore down the walls between four rooms to create this great room in Villanova, PA. And what a difference it makes! This bright space is perfect for everyday living and entertaining family and friends as the kitchen, eating and living areas flow seamlessly. With red oak flooring throughout, we used white and light gray materials and crown moulding to give this large space a cohesive yet open feel. We added wainscoting to the steel post columns. Other projects in this house included installing red oak flooring throughout the first floor, refinishing the main staircase, building new stairs into the basement, installing new basement flooring and opening the basement rooms to create another entertainment area. Interior Design: Vision Interiors by Visbeen Photographer: Ashley Avila Photography The Holloway blends the recent revival of mid-century aesthetics with the timelessness of a country farmhouse. Each façade features playfully arranged windows tucked under steeply pitched gables. Natural wood lapped siding emphasizes this homes more modern elements, while classic white board & batten covers the core of this house. A rustic stone water table wraps around the base and contours down into the rear view-out terrace. Inside, a wide hallway connects the foyer to the den and living spaces through smooth case-less openings. Featuring a grey stone fireplace, tall windows, and vaulted wood ceiling, the living room bridges between the kitchen and den. The kitchen picks up some mid-century through the use of flat-faced upper and lower cabinets with chrome pulls. Richly toned wood chairs and table cap off the dining room, which is surrounded by windows on three sides. The grand staircase, to the left, is viewable from the outside through a set of giant casement windows on the upper landing. A spacious master suite is situated off of this upper landing. Featuring separate closets, a tiled bath with tub and shower, this suite has a perfect view out to the rear yard through the bedrooms rear windows. All the way upstairs, and to the right of the staircase, is four separate bedrooms. Downstairs, under the master suite, is a gymnasium. This gymnasium is connected to the outdoors through an overhead door and is perfect for athletic activities or storing a boat during cold months. The lower level also features a living room with view out windows and a private guest suite.

FPArchitects have restored and refurbished a four-storey grade II listed Georgian mid terrace in London's Limehouse, turning the gloomy and dilapidated house into a bright and minimalist family home. Located within the Lowell Street Conservation Area and on one of London's busiest roads, the early 19th century building was the subject of insensitive extensive works in the mid 1990s when much of the original fabric and features were lost. FPArchitects' ambition was to re-establish the decorative hierarchy of the interiors by stripping out unsympathetic features and insert paired down decorative elements that complement the original rusticated stucco, round-headed windows and the entrance with fluted columns. Ancillary spaces are inserted within the original cellular layout with minimal disruption to the fabric of the building. A side extension at the back, also added in the mid 1990s, is transformed into a small pavilion-like Dining Room with minimal sliding doors and apertures for overhead natural light. Subtle shades of colours and materials with fine textures are preferred and are juxtaposed to dark floors in veiled reference to the Regency and Georgian aesthetics.

Our clients loved living in their classic colonial home dating to the early 1900s, but the interior felt dated and heavy. Our challenge was creating fresh design that honored the history and character of the home. We took our cues from the elegant black marble fireplace, the baby grand, and floor-to-ceiling millwork. We love the marriage of old and new-- layering original pieces with new decor elevates both, giving a space authenticity and fresh style.
