Renovation of an old barn into a personal office space. This project, located on a 37-acre family farm in Pennsylvania, arose from the need for a personal workspace away from the hustle and bustle of the main house. An old barn used for gardening storage provided the ideal opportunity to convert it into a personal workspace. The small 1250 s.f. building consists of a main work and meeting area as well as the addition of a kitchen and a bathroom with sauna. The architects decided to preserve and restore the original stone construction and highlight it both inside and out in order to gain approval from the local authorities under a strict code for the reuse of historic structures. The poor state of preservation of the original timber structure presented the design team with the opportunity to reconstruct the roof using three large timber frames, produced by craftsmen from the Amish community. Following local craft techniques, the truss joints were achieved using wood dowels without adhesives and the stone walls were laid without the use of apparent mortar. The new roof, covered with cedar shingles, projects beyond the original footprint of the building to create two porches. One frames the main entrance and the other protects a generous outdoor living space on the south side. New wood trusses are left exposed and emphasized with indirect lighting design. The walls of the short facades were opened up to create large windows and bring the expansive views of the forest and neighboring creek into the space. The palette of interior finishes is simple and forceful, limited to the use of wood, stone and glass. The furniture design, including the suspended fireplace, integrates with the architecture and complements it through the judicious use of natural fibers and textiles. The result is a contemporary and timeless architectural work that will coexist harmoniously with the traditional buildings in its surroundings, protected in perpetuity for their historical heritage value.

El proyecto está ubicado en un pequeño pueblo de montaña en el Valle de Alto Campoo y se originó a partir de la adaptación a las condiciones locales y las antiguas técnicas de mampostería de piedra con cubierta inclinada, para una mejor integración con el entorno. El programa, coherente con el estilo de vida actual, se desarrolla adoptando un esquema lineal, reduciendo al mínimo los pasillos y diferenciando los espacios de día y de noche. Así la sala de estar, situada en el centro de la casa, se abre hacia el sureste a través de un ventanal que permite disfrutar de las impresionantes vistas hacia el valle y las montañas. Los dormitorios se sitúan en el ala suroeste, la zona más privada. Gracias a su generosa altura, un entrepiso en la parte superior del baño, permite dos lugares adicionales para dormir. La casa es muy respetuosa con el medio ambiente en términos estéticos y técnicos, y está diseñada y construida con extrema atención y cuidado por los detalles. Las vastas paredes exteriores de piedra contrastan con el cálido y delicado ambiente interior, gracias a la estructura y los detalles de madera.

都市部でつくる中間領域のある家 今回の計画は、兵庫県西宮市の閑静な住宅街の一画にある敷地。 本敷地は、L字の道路の突き当りにあり、この道路部分が唯一外部へと抜けのある場所であった。また、クライアントは、アウトドアや自然のある場所を好まれるご家族であり、どこかに外部で遊べる場所を求められていた。しかしながら、本敷地は、100㎡の狭小地で外部に庭を設けることが困難であった。そこで、抜けのある道路を内部へと繋げた中間領域をつくることをコンセプトとした。 道路の直線状にダイニングスペースを設け、ここを外部を感じることのできるオープンな スペースとした。外部にみたてたウッドデッキの材料を使用した床材や木製サッシで囲むなどのしつらえを行い内部でありながら外部空間のような開放感のあるスペースとした。 ガラスで囲むことにより、ここからリビングスペースやキッチンスペースへと光を取り入れるゾーニングとした。 都市部の狭小地で採光や外部の庭スペースを設けにくい敷地であったが、外部を感じることのできる内部空間を設けることにより、光をとりこみ、家族が豊かに生活をたのしむことのできる中間領域のある家となった。

Ristrutturazione di una casa in sasso in un borgo arroccato sul versante della montagna che sovrasta Chiavenna. Il lavoro è stato fatto per una famiglia inglese appassionata delle tradizioni costruttive tipiche della valle. Sulle facciate è stato eliminato l’intonaco che parzialmente le rivestiva, riportando le pietre a vista, mentre i balconi precedentemente in ferro e cemento sono stati ricostruiti in legno. Il tetto è stato rifatto interamente, mantenendo la struttura principale in grossi tronchi di larice, mentre la copertura è stata rifatta con le tipiche “piote” (lastre in pietra locale) di a pezzature irregolari. All’interno i lavori principali hanno riguardato il piano primo e sottotetto. E’ stato demolito il solaio del sottotetto e tutte le pareti interne, realizzando uno spazio giorno a doppia altezza, sul quale si affaccia un piccolo soppalco in corrispondenza della zona cucina e pranzo. Si è cercato di conservare tutti i dettagli e gli elementi di arredo fissi esistenti: scale in legno e pietra, e pavimenti in grosse tavole di castagno, privilegiando nella definizione dei materiali un’approccio restaurativo e di recupero della tradizione.

La Coral·lí, l’Albert i la Queralt volen tenir més llum i ventilació al menjador i al lavabo. L’habitatge va patir una reforma general l’any 2007 de la mà de Pere Martínez. En aquell moment degut a la normativa existent no es van poder projectar finestres al Pati Feliu. Actualment aquest espai recollit del barri vell de Celrà, és un espai públic, i amb el canvi de normativa urbanística s’han pogut obrir les finestres a aquest espai, millorant la qualitat de l’espai interior de l’habitatge. Les finestres s’emmarquen en un marc d’acer corten, de manera que es vegi clarament quines finestres són noves i quines eren les existents en el moment de la reforma. Amb el remenament de les obres, s’ha aprofitat per a fer una petita reforma al bany, col•locant una mampara i canviant el plat de dutxa per un de més fàcil neteja.
