When we drove out to Mukilteo for our initial consultation, we immediately fell in love with this house. With its tall ceilings, eclectic mix of wood, glass and steel, and gorgeous view of the Puget Sound, we quickly nicknamed this project "The Mukilteo Gem". Our client, a cook and baker, did not like her existing kitchen. The main points of issue were short runs of available counter tops, lack of storage and shortage of light. So, we were called in to implement some big, bold ideas into a small footprint kitchen with big potential. We completely changed the layout of the room by creating a tall, built-in storage wall and a continuous u-shape counter top. Early in the project, we took inventory of every item our clients wanted to store in the kitchen and ensured that every spoon, gadget, or bowl would have a dedicated "home" in their new kitchen. The finishes were meticulously selected to ensure continuity throughout the house. We also played with the color scheme to achieve a bold yet natural feel.This kitchen is a prime example of how color can be used to both make a statement and project peace and balance simultaneously. While busy at work on our client's kitchen improvement, we also updated the entry and gave the homeowner a modern laundry room with triple the storage space they originally had. End result: ecstatic clients and a very happy design team. That's what we call a big success! John Granen.

The lighting, counter stools and soapstone countertops give the room an urban chic, semi-industrial feel but the warmth of the wooden beams and the wood flooring make sure that the space is not cold. A secondary, smaller island was put on wheels in order to have a movable and highly functional prep space.

The addition of a new wall in this kitchen offers plenty of additional space for cabinets and appliances, such as the microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker, and juicer. With the appliances on one end of the kitchen, this allows for the counter space in the main area to be free of clutter - creating more room for cooking. The white painted flat panel custom cabinets and white quartz countertops have a crisp, clean effect on the design while the blue glass subway tiled backsplash adds color and is highlighted by the under cabinet lighting throughout the space. The original kitchen featured an island that divided the space and was out of scale for the space, the tile and countertops that were dated. Our goal was to create an inviting kitchen for gatherings, and integrate our clients color palette without doing a complete kitchen remodel. We designed a new island with high gloss paint finish in turquoise, added new quartz countertops, subway and sea glass tile, vent hood, light fixtures, farm style sink, faucet and cabinet hardware. The space is now open and offers plenty of space to cook and entertain. Keeping our environment in mind and sustainable design approach, we recycled the original Island and countertops to 2nd Used Seattle.

Our client used Oxford White cabinets to keep this condo bright and open. Solid painted HDF is uniform in colour. It creates a clean, modern cabinet look without any visible wood grains or knots.
