Reorganizamos la habitación principal dando una sensación espacial mayor y dotándola de un baño en suite completo. La reforma nos permite una mejora energética importante, la sustitución de todos los cierres acristalados con cámara y filtro selectivo permite mantener la diferencia de temperatura entre interior y exterior. Una nueva instalación de calefacción y caldera eficiente para mantener una temperatura de confort constante. También apostamos por una instalación eléctrica actualizada con iluminación led y electrodomésticos eficientes.

A nice neutral-toned rug has been added to the space looking very stylish. The shelvings at each side of the fireplace have allowed a nice display and storage corner in the living room. The sofa and the armchair with a footrest have added to the character of the room. The features and the furnishings in the living room adds a decorative touch. Who wouldn't want a cosy but also elegant living room like this? Well, our clients did, and we designed it. This new living room has been transformed into this vivid and cosy space from its old monotonous and old-fashioned look. The Strong Bancha Green for Farrow and Ball on the walls adds a beautifully moody and refreshing aura to the space. Projet livré fin novembre 2022, budget tout compris 100 000 € : un appartement de vieille dame chic avec seulement deux chambres et des prestations datées, à transformer en appartement familial de trois chambres, moderne et dans l'esprit Wabi-sabi : épuré, fonctionnel, minimaliste, avec des matières naturelles, de beaux meubles en bois anciens ou faits à la main et sur mesure dans des essences nobles, et des objets soigneusement sélectionnés eux aussi pour rappeler la nature et l'artisanat mais aussi le chic classique des ambiances méditerranéennes de l'Antiquité qu'affectionnent les nouveaux propriétaires. La salle de bain a été réduite pour créer une cuisine ouverte sur la pièce de vie, on a donc supprimé la baignoire existante et déplacé les cloisons pour insérer une cuisine minimaliste mais très design et fonctionnelle ; de l'autre côté de la salle de bain une cloison a été repoussée pour gagner la place d'une très grande douche à l'italienne. Enfin, l'ancienne cuisine a été transformée en chambre avec dressing (à la place de l'ancien garde manger), tandis qu'une des chambres a pris des airs de suite parentale, grâce à une grande baignoire d'angle qui appelle à la relaxation. Côté matières : du noyer pour les placards sur mesure de la cuisine qui se prolongent dans la salle à manger (avec une partie vestibule / manteaux et chaussures, une partie vaisselier, et une partie bibliothèque). On a conservé et restauré le marbre rose existant dans la grande pièce de réception, ce qui a grandement contribué à guider les autres choix déco ; ailleurs, les moquettes et carrelages datés beiges ou bordeaux ont été enlevés et remplacés par du béton ciré blanc coco milk de chez Mercadier. Dans la salle de bain il est même monté aux murs dans la douche ! Pour réchauffer tout cela : de la laine bouclette, des tapis moelleux ou à l'esprit maison de vanaces, des fibres naturelles, du lin, de la gaze de coton, des tapisseries soixante huitardes chinées, des lampes vintage, et un esprit revendiqué "Mad men" mêlé à des vibrations douces de finca ou de maison grecque dans les Cyclades...

The brief was to transform the apartment into a functional and comfortable home, suitable for everyday living; a place of warmth and true homeliness. Excitingly, we were encouraged to be brave and bold with colour, and so we took inspiration from the beautiful garden of England; Kent . We opted for a palette of French greys, Farrow and Ball's warm neutrals, rich textures and textiles. We hope you like the result as much as we did!

Twin Peaks House is a vibrant extension to a grand Edwardian homestead in Kensington. Originally built in 1913 for a wealthy family of butchers, when the surrounding landscape was pasture from horizon to horizon, the homestead endured as its acreage was carved up and subdivided into smaller terrace allotments. Our clients discovered the property decades ago during long walks around their neighbourhood, promising themselves that they would buy it should the opportunity ever arise. Many years later the opportunity did arise, and our clients made the leap. Not long after, they commissioned us to update the home for their family of five. They asked us to replace the pokey rear end of the house, shabbily renovated in the 1980s, with a generous extension that matched the scale of the original home and its voluminous garden. Our design intervention extends the massing of the original gable-roofed house towards the back garden, accommodating kids’ bedrooms, living areas downstairs and main bedroom suite tucked away upstairs gabled volume to the east earns the project its name, duplicating the main roof pitch at a smaller scale and housing dining, kitchen, laundry and informal entry. This arrangement of rooms supports our clients’ busy lifestyles with zones of communal and individual living, places to be together and places to be alone. The living area pivots around the kitchen island, positioned carefully to entice our clients' energetic teenaged boys with the aroma of cooking. A sculpted deck runs the length of the garden elevation, facing swimming pool, borrowed landscape and the sun. A first-floor hideout attached to the main bedroom floats above, vertical screening providing prospect and refuge. Neither quite indoors nor out, these spaces act as threshold between both, protected from the rain and flexibly dimensioned for either entertaining or retreat. Galvanised steel continuously wraps the exterior of the extension, distilling the decorative heritage of the original’s walls, roofs and gables into two cohesive volumes. The masculinity in this form-making is balanced by a light-filled, feminine interior. Its material palette of pale timbers and pastel shades are set against a textured white backdrop, with 2400mm high datum adding a human scale to the raked ceilings. Celebrating the tension between these design moves is a dramatic, top-lit 7m high void that slices through the centre of the house. Another type of threshold, the void bridges the old and the new, the private and the public, the formal and the informal. It acts as a clear spatial marker for each of these transitions and a living relic of the home’s long history.

Un antiguo piso de l’eixample con todas sus estancias sin actualizar, lleno de habitaciones dentro de habitaciones que reducían la luz a una bombilla. Decidimos que era el momento de abrir los espacios, dejar que interactuaran entre ellos como lo hacemos en nuestro día a día, y así conseguimos darle fluidez a la luz natural. Sus arcos retros contrastan con el mobiliario moderno de la cocina y bohemio del salón.
