Birch Plywood Kitchen with recessed J handles and stainless steel recessed kick-board with a floating plywood shelf that sits above a splash back of geometric tiles. Plants, decorative and kitchen accessories sit on the shelf. The movable plywood island is on large orange castors and has a stainless steel worktop and contains a single oven and induction hob. The back of the island is a peg-board with a hand painted panel behind so that all the colours show through the holes. Pegs are used to hang toys and on. Orange and yellow curly cables provide the electrical connection to the oven and hob. The perimeter run of cabinets has a concrete worktop and houses the sink and tall integrated fridge/freezer and slimline full height larder with internal pull out drawers. The star of this South Carolina mountain home's traditional kitchen is the cast stone hood hanging above a black Lacanche range. The antique brass faucet and pot-filler add vintage sheen and coordinate with the range’s hardware. Dark walnut-stained beams, island and hardwood floors contrast with the ivory plaster walls and ceiling. Cabinets finished in a light taupe paint with chocolate glaze are accented in restoration glass with lead caming and pewter hardware. Black Pearl granite, which has been brushed and enhanced, tops the counters and climbs the backsplash. The stone's flecks of silver, gold and gray add depth. Counter stools covered in cream and taupe striped burlap are trimmed with bronze nails and pull up to the expansive island. Above the island hovers an iron chandelier, shedding light on the white farm sink. This space was designed to fill with friends – prepping, cooking and delighting in each luxurious detail. Just beyond this drool-worthy room is a peek of the home’s stately dining room.

Closeup of the door to the hidden pantry. False panels and hardware to match the rest of the bank of cabinets. We custom made all of the kitchen cabinetry and shelving. The kitchen was a small area so maximizing usable space with function and design was crucial. The transitional design features a pantry wall with the Sub Zero all glass door refrigerator and oven cabinet centered and equal size pantry cabinets to either side with 3 large storage drawers below and rollout shelves and work surfaces behind the door cabinets above in each with a hidden walk-in pantry door next to the Sub Zero. The cabinets on the range wall all have large storage drawers with wood organizers in the top drawer for spices and utensils. The client also wanted floating shelves to either side of the steel hood which were made from re-sawn maple to look like cut pieces from an old beam, each shelf is lit from the underside with LED flush mounted puck lights. The island was our biggest challenge. It needed to house several appliances of different size, a farmhouse sink and be able to have function from all 4 sides and still have room for seating space on the backside. The sink side has the farmhouse sink centered with storage drawers to the right that feature wood organizers and a double middle drawer to help hold all the small utensils and still maintain the 3 drawer look from the front view that matches the integrated dishwasher to the left. The right side contains both the integrated soft close trash unit and an icemaker with a third false panel door to maintain the size balance for all three. The left side houses the Sub Zero undercounter freezer. I wanted the face to look like six equal sized drawers, which left the integrated drawer fronts for the freezer overlapping the side panel for the dishwasher. The back of the island has storage tucked up under the seating space. The quartz countertop meets up against the maple butcher block to create a stunning island top. All in all the end result of this kitchen is a beautiful space with wonderful function. We finished the false beams in our exclusive hand-rubbed cappuccino stain. Photos: Kimball Ungerman

This modern farmhouse kitchen was created to match the style and feel of the rest of the historic house built in the 1700s. Reclaimed flooring and counters, white fully custom Grabill cabinets, a farmhouse sink, and marble counters complete this lovely kitchen. Design and Installation by Main Street at Botellos. Modern Kitchen Reface from cherry cabinet to a darker, shaker modern door style set up. Homeowner selected Sparkling White Quartz for the perimeter and a gray mid tone quartz for her opposing peninsula piece. Using 4x16 White ceramic tiles gave this traditional kitchen a modern clean pop.

Two reception room walls were knocked down to create an open-plan kitchen dining space for our client, an interior designer, and her family. This truly bespoke kitchen, designed by Woodstock Furniture, features striking, stepped doors in a spray-painted French grey finish and charcoal grey spray-painted finish on the long, narrow island unit. The client wanted to create more open space with an extension to house the utility room so the kitchen could be reserved for cooking, living and entertaining. Once building work was complete, Andrew Hall, chief designer and managing director of Woodstock Furniture, was enlisted to realise the client's vision - a minimalist, industrial-style, yet welcoming, open-plan kitchen with classic contemporary styling. The client had not had a bespoke kitchen so was looking forward to experiencing a quality feel and finish with all the cabinetry closing and aligning properly with plenty of storage factored in to the design. A painted, pale grey colour scheme was chosen for the kitchen with a charcoal-grey island unit for a dramatic focal point. Stepped doors were designed to create a unique look to the bespoke cabinetry and a Victorian lamp post base was sourced from an architectural salvage yard to support the breakfast bar with an original, contrasting feature to the black island cabinets. The island unit fits in perfectly with the room's proportions and was designed to be long and narrow to house the sink, integrated dishwasher, recycling needs, crockery and provide the perfect place for guests to gather when entertaining. The worktops on either side of the range cooker are used for food prep with a small sink for rinsing and draining, which doubles up as an ice sink for chilling wine at parties. This open-plan scheme includes a dining area, which leads off from the kitchen with space for seating ten people comfortably. Dark lights were installed to echo the sleek charcoal grey on the island unit and one of the pendant lights is directly above the tap to highlight the chrome finish with five lighting circuits in the kitchen and adjacent dining room.
