This Adirondack inspired kitchen, designed by Curtis Lumber Company, features a corner fireplace that adds a warm cozy ambiance to the heart of this home. The cabinetry is Merillat Masterpiece: Montesano Door Style in Quartersawn Oak Cognac. Photos property of Curtis Lumber Company.

Embracing an authentic Craftsman-styled kitchen was one of the primary objectives for these New Jersey clients. They envisioned bending traditional hand-craftsmanship and modern amenities into a chef inspired kitchen. The woodwork in adjacent rooms help to facilitate a vision for this space to create a free-flowing open concept for family and friends to enjoy. This kitchen takes inspiration from nature and its color palette is dominated by neutral and earth tones. Traditionally characterized with strong deep colors, the simplistic cherry cabinetry allows for straight, clean lines throughout the space. A green subway tile backsplash and granite countertops help to tie in additional earth tones and allow for the natural wood to be prominently displayed. The rugged character of the perimeter is seamlessly tied into the center island. Featuring chef inspired appliances, the island incorporates a cherry butchers block to provide additional prep space and seating for family and friends. The free-standing stainless-steel hood helps to transform this Craftsman-style kitchen into a 21st century treasure.

A walk in refrigerator was incorporated into the design of this kitchen. Inside there is a freezer compartment. Knotty wood was selected for the exterior to tie into the farmhouse feel of this new build home.

Designer: Paul Dybdahl Photographer: Shanna Wolf Designer’s Note: One of the main project goals was to develop a kitchen space that complimented the homes quality while blending elements of the new kitchen space with the homes eclectic materials. Japanese Ash veneers were chosen for the main body of the kitchen for it's quite linear appeals. Quarter Sawn White Oak, in a natural finish, was chosen for the island to compliment the dark finished Quarter Sawn Oak floor that runs throughout this home. The west end of the island, under the Walnut top, is a metal finished wood. This was to speak to the metal wrapped fireplace on the west end of the space. A massive Walnut Log was sourced to create the 2.5" thick 72" long and 45" wide (at widest end) living edge top for an elevated seating area at the island. This was created from two pieces of solid Walnut, sliced and joined in a book-match configuration. The homeowner loves the new space!! A large, open plan family style kitchen with flat, matt charcoal cabinetry and u-channel handles. The worktops and splash back are bespoke surfaces, hand crafted using micro-cement with liquid metal resin detailing to create the stunning visual effect of natural, tactile veining throughout. This re-surfacing technique is more than decorative. Micro-cement's wear-resistant and water proof properties, combined with the visual versatility and cost-effective application, made the use of the material an obvious solution to many design elements of this project. Each vein was carefully crafted with the artistic eye of an expert, with stunning attention to detail.

A grand Larchmont Tudor with original millwork and details was ready for a new kitchen after raising the kids and spending decades cooking in a cramped dark kitchen. Designer Sarah Robertson of Studio Dearborn helped her client achieve a look that blended perfectly with the Tudor home. The kitchen was bumped out a bit to open up the space, and new millwork was designed to bring the original Tudor charm into the modernized kitchen space. A geometric Ann Sacks tile introduces shape and texture to the space, and a little modern edginess, while the cabinetry and doors reflect the old world motifs of a Tudor revival. Photos Adam Macchia.
