DESIGN BRIEF “A family home to be lived in not just looked at” placed functionality as main priority in the extensive renovation of this coastal holiday home. Existing layout featured: – Inadequate bench space in the cooking zone – An impractical and overly large walk in pantry – Torturous angles in the design of the house made work zones cramped with a frenetic aesthetic at odds with the linear skylights creating disharmony and an unbalanced feel to the entire space. – Unappealing seating zones, not utilising the amazing view or north face space WISH LIST – Comfortable retreat for two people and extend family, with space for multiple cooks to work in the kitchen together or to a functional work zone for a couple. DESIGN SOLUTION – Removal of awkward angle walls creating more space for a larger kitchen – External angles which couldn’t be modified are hidden, creating a rational, serene space where the skylights run parallel to walls and fittings. NEW KITCHEN FEATURES – A highly functional layout with well-defined and spacious cooking, preparing and storage zones. – Generous bench space around cooktop and sink provide great workability in a small space – An inviting island bench for relaxing, working and entertaining for one or many cooks – A light filled interior with ocean views from several vantage points in the kitchen – An appliance/pantry with sliding for easy access to plentiful storage and hidden appliance use to keep the kitchen streamlined and easy to keep tidy. – A light filled interior with ocean views from several vantage points in the kitchen – Refined aesthetics which welcomes, relax and allows for individuality with warm timber open shelves curate collections that make the space feel like it’s a home always on holidays.

Before renovating, this bright and airy family kitchen was small, cramped and dark. The dining room was being used for spillover storage, and there was hardly room for two cooks in the kitchen. By knocking out the wall separating the two rooms, we created a large kitchen space with plenty of storage, space for cooking and baking, and a gathering table for kids and family friends. The dark navy blue cabinets set apart the area for baking, with a deep, bright counter for cooling racks, a tiled niche for the mixer, and pantries dedicated to baking supplies. The space next to the beverage center was used to create a beautiful eat-in dining area with an over-sized pendant and provided a stunning focal point visible from the front entry. The large picture window allows a ton of natural light to pour into the space and brighten up the two-tone cabinetry. With raised panel cabinet doors, the kitchen is traditional and matches the elegant style of this comfortable home. The back of the kitchen has a small dry bar, while the front has a dedicated coffee bar - not to mention the awesome pot filler at the range!

Looking for a space which was perfect for entertaining and family life, the design incorporates a plentiful larder, huge fridge as well as discrete ovens and hobs. The oak waterfall nestles into the Carrera marble style quartz counter top, providing a casual eating or drinking zone. The fluted bar stools from April and the Bear were similar to those spotted in a local bar, and also nod to the fluted glazing with in the upper units. Two Heracleum endless chandelier from Moooi light the dining and island area. Beautiful by day and by night. The Crofts and Assinder Sterling Brass handles provide the bling, whilst the unsealed engineered oak parquet from the Natural Wood Company gives a timeless grounding to the space.

Our Seattle studio designed this stunning 5,000+ square foot Snohomish home to make it comfortable and fun for a wonderful family of six. On the main level, our clients wanted a mudroom. So we removed an unused hall closet and converted the large full bathroom into a powder room. This allowed for a nice landing space off the garage entrance. We also decided to close off the formal dining room and convert it into a hidden butler's pantry. In the beautiful kitchen, we created a bright, airy, lively vibe with beautiful tones of blue, white, and wood. Elegant backsplash tiles, stunning lighting, and sleek countertops complete the lively atmosphere in this kitchen. On the second level, we created stunning bedrooms for each member of the family. In the primary bedroom, we used neutral grasscloth wallpaper that adds texture, warmth, and a bit of sophistication to the space creating a relaxing retreat for the couple. We used rustic wood shiplap and deep navy tones to define the boys' rooms, while soft pinks, peaches, and purples were used to make a pretty, idyllic little girls' room. In the basement, we added a large entertainment area with a show-stopping wet bar, a large plush sectional, and beautifully painted built-ins. We also managed to squeeze in an additional bedroom and a full bathroom to create the perfect retreat for overnight guests. For the decor, we blended in some farmhouse elements to feel connected to the beautiful Snohomish landscape. We achieved this by using a muted earth-tone color palette, warm wood tones, and modern elements. The home is reminiscent of its spectacular views – tones of blue in the kitchen, primary bathroom, boys' rooms, and basement; eucalyptus green in the kids' flex space; and accents of browns and rust throughout. ---Project designed by interior design studio Kimberlee Marie Interiors. The kitchen island painted in Sherwin Williams, ""Navel", boldly contrasts the stark white perimeter cabinets. By eliminating the formal dining room, we were able to incorporate a pantry and home office.

The elegant “Morel” stain blends and harmonizes the natural Hickory wood grain while emphasizing the grain with a subtle gray tone that beautifully coordinated with the cool, deep blue paint. The “Gale Force” SW 7605 blue paint from Sherwin-Williams is a stunning deep blue paint color that is sophisticated, fun, and creative. Beyond the beautiful exterior, there is so much well-thought-out storage and function behind each and every cabinet door. The larder cabinet on the left is designed as a beverage center with apothecary drawers designed for housing beverage stir sticks, sugar packets, creamers, and other misc. coffee and home bar supplies. The kitchen in this Mid Century Modern home is a true showstopper. The designer expanded the original kitchen footprint and doubled the kitchen in size. The walnut dividing wall and walnut cabinets are hallmarks of the original mid century design, while a mix of deep blue cabinets provide a more modern punch. The triangle shape is repeated throughout the kitchen in the backs of the counter stools, the ends of the waterfall island, the light fixtures, the clerestory windows, and the walnut dividing wall.

A small area is remodeled for efficient use of space. This couple enjoys cooking, their grandchildren, and puzzles. All of that was taken into account when we designed the kitchen.
