I have been working with Jana on a new home construction project since March of 2019. I called her after seeing one of the kitchens she designed. I took a chance as I live in Iowa, which is a long way from San Antonio, Texas. After speaking with her, I felt as though she could make my dreams come true...and she did! She has designed my family room, main kitchen area, pantry, master bathroom, powder room, main laundry room, mud room, my office, staircase, basement kitchenette with wet bar, basement rec room area, and my children's individual bathrooms. In addition, she has provided input and suggestions on other areas of the home. I entrusted her with designing the previously mentioned areas and she has done a magnificent job. Never in my wildest dreams could I have ever imagined living in such a beautifully designed home. She has by far exceeded my expectations. Jana is tremendously talented and has an eye for decor. She genuinely cares for her clients and really focuses on bringing to life what they dream of. I am so appreciative for what she had done for myself and my family. Honestly 5 stars isn't enough for Jana Valdez and Haven Design and Construction!!

Not only are Jana and Armando insanely talented, but they are wonderful people as well. We have worked with them on several projects and their quality of work, honesty and professionalism are second to none. What impressed me most about them, and was the primary reason we chose them for our first project, is the way the work together and compliment each other. We were walking the kitchen and there were some obstacles that impacted the design. Armando said to Jana something along the lines of “Well if I extend this here and you can shift that in your design we can make it work.” The design and construction go hand in hand to make the most functional, beautiful design possible. Sadly we had to move from our house that they so beautifully remodeled (kitchen, butler’s pantry, laundry, master bath, secondary full bath, hall bath and refreshed other areas too). When we landed in our new city, guess who I hired for the design in my new house?? There was only one person I would trust with that - Jana.

My boyfriend and I moved to Texas from out of state in pursuit of buying our forever/ dream home. I found Jana and Armando Valdez on Houzz and so glad I did! We had an amazingly positive experience, and outcome, with Jana and the entire team at Haven Design and Construction. From the beginning, Jana had an open line of communication with me and orchestrated the process flawlessly from start to finish. We provided her with a clean slate since we wanted to start from scratch. The project included furniture, artwork, rugs, lamps, and accessories -- for my office, dining room, entry foyer, breakfast area, living room, master bedroom, master bedroom entry foyer, and an upstairs living area. We also replaced light fixtures with chandeliers in the entry foyer area, living room, breakfast area, kitchen bar, master bedroom foyer, master bedroom, and upstairs living area. Jana picked out the most beautiful tile for our kitchen backsplash and hardware for the kitchen cabinets and downstairs bathroom. From fabric selection to furniture to artwork, I couldn't believe how she just nailed it on the options she provided me for every room we were doing. I loved everything she picked out! She made this process enjoyable, fun, smooth, and best of all -- she helped us create our DREAM HOME. Our place looks AMAZING! Like MTV Cribs amazing! I highly recommend Jana, Armando, and the team at Haven Design and Construction. Trust them. Trust the process. You won't regret it! #happy

I loved Jana's designs. I reached out on Houzz to find out if she could take on my project, she responded by saying she could take on a Design project in February. Then followed a series of emails back and fourth. I sent a detailed email with what we want to accomplish and then told me that a project of "my size" (a total master bath remodel, laundry room remodel, pantry remodel and entry way remodel) was too small for their company. This confused me because I thought we were just doing a design project- not construction. I then asked her what budget she was looking for to make it "worth it". She responded by saying that if I included furniture in my order then that might make it work for her. I replied and told her that I did in fact need furniture. At this point we set up a phone consultation. She asked about our timeline, I told her want to move-in at the end of summer. Then she told me that they wouldn't be able to start construction for 8 months, then she said oh wait your in Dripping Springs- we don't do that area its too far (1 hour away). So then I brought up just doing a design for us and she said she doesn't do that because we are in an area thats her competition. HUH? Either I am in your catch area and you want the job, not your competition, or I am too far away in which case a design project would be a good option. Not to mention all design ideas are photographed and available online- no copy-right. She's unorganized, unprofessional and too slammed with work.

Thank you for taking the time to provide constructive criticism. We are always open to growing and improving as a company and as individuals. I would also like to thank you for your kind words regarding my design work and we certainly do appreciate you considering us for your remodeling project. However, there definitely seems to be a large miscommunication here and I apologize for the misunderstanding. I am so sorry that we were not the best fit for your extensive construction project in Dripping Springs due to it being outside of our service area for an in-depth construction project. Per our email conversation on Houzz just before Thanksgiving, here is the exact email that what I wrote to you when you contacted us:

Hi Amanda,
Thanks so much for reaching out to us and I apologize for the delayed response. It is our busiest time of the year right now. We are not able to take construction projects in Dripping Springs, but we do offer interior design services there and "light construction" such as replacing light fixtures, plumbing fixtures, etc. Logistically, we just can't take large construction projects there, unfortunately. If we can assist you with a design project, please let me know. We would love to schedule a phone consultation with you. Thanks so much for considering us! Happy Thanksgiving!

So, in regards to design projects in Dripping Springs, we do offer design service as long as it as not through another contractor. We are able to provide furniture, replacing lighting fixtures and plumbing fixtures, etc. in Dripping Springs, just not major construction. The reason that we cannot offer major construction services there (ie. ripping out a bathroom, rearranging a floorplan with plumbing in the slab, and reworking electrical, etc). is that it takes 1.5 hours to drive from our office in San Antonio to Dripping Springs. It would not be productive for you to hire us to drive three hours a day and only work five hours a day on your job. I wanted for you to have the very best service for your project, even if it's not logistically possible for our company to do it. So I recommended that you hire an Austin or Dripping Springs contractor who is closer to your service area. It was certainly not because we did not want your project or because your project did not meet our project minimum at all, it did. It was just outside of our construction service area for large projects. I always strive to be honest and up front with potential clients on initial phone consultations and that is why I offer them free of charge, to make sure that we are a good fit for your needs before you pay us anything or make any commitments to move forward with a project.

Since we did not charge you anything and I set aside an hour of my time (even though I am quite busy, as you pointed out) to discuss your project free of charge, I am a little perplexed by why you felt a one star review was reflective of our limited interaction, but you are certainly free to write a review of your choice. I am very sorry that you felt that it was a negative experience. That was certainly never my intention. I pour my heart and soul into our projects and I pride myself in having positive and professional interactions with our clients and potential clients like yourself. I am not perfect, for sure, but I can certainly say that I tried to help you in the best way that I possibly could.

I am not sure why you brought up our work being copyrighted, but I wanted to address that briefly, as well. It is not possible to copyright "design ideas" and if other designers copy our work, I truly do not have any legal recourse, unfortunately. However, I have learned to consider it a compliment that they love our style. All of our work is professionally photographed and the photos are, in fact, copyrighted and may only be used with the photographer's written permission or to advertise for our business. All photos are taken with client permission and I never share their personal information.

In closing, I want to wish you all the very best with your move to Texas and with your remodel project in Dripping Springs. It was such a relief to find a company who does design and construction in one. They were respectful of my budget and I was extremely happy with the design details that made my kitchen truly a functional, beautiful space for my family and friends to enjoy. Very respectful of pets and property while onsite and they were always easy to get in touch with! We built our home in CA and were spoiled by the team we worked with who taught us to recognize quality. After moving to Boerne, we embarked on a remodeling project, not knowing really who to work with. Our cabinets were a major disappointment. We contacted Todd Glowka, premier Hill Country builder who referred us to Jana Valdez. Jana and her husband and contractor, Armando, were hired to replace all of the kitchen cabinets. We could not be more pleased. Jana has an excellent eye for design and she worked closely with the cabinet maker to assure custom details we wanted were incorporated. Most importantly she has excellent planning and follow up skills. The design was developed in a short time and work begun on the cabinet boxes. Armando and his crew removed the old cabinets and the next day the new boxes went in. Within a month we had a brand new kitchen. Jana was excellent at scheduling other involved subcontractors and kept us informed as to when they would come on site and how long they would be there. Armando was invaluable in reinstalling the sink and appliances, necessary floor tile repair or replacement and saving the backsplash tile. We are so pleased with the results we are planning the next phase of cabinet removal and replacement. Haven Design and Construction was professional, efficient, worked within our budget and everyone on the project was enjoyable to work with. The results speak for themselves.

We reviewed and considered many contractors before selecting Haven Design and Construction to remodel our master bathroom. Their professionalism, sincerity and attention to what we wanted were key to making our decision. Armando and his workmen were outstanding hard workers, who worked long hours to meet our expectations. Armando kept us informed of each remodeling phase to ensure we were in agreement with what was being done. We were impressed with Armando's work ethics and felt the best was being done in every stage of the work - down to matching wall colors. I highly recommend Jana and Armando to help you with your next home design or construction project! Jana's interior design advice was a huge help when I purchased my home in 2012. She helped me with paint colors, furniture, art and window coverings. Her great advice saved me from making some big and expensive mistakes. I was going to buy all matching leather pieces, like a bachelor would, and she helped me to see how great it would look to mix the leather sofa with fabric chairs. She also helped me to pick out a rug that was the right size, too. A few months later, I hired her again to help me to pick out some new pendant lights and woven window shades for my kitchen. Everything looks really great and I get compliments from friends all the time. She is really patient and easy to work with and she listened to exactly what I wanted. In 2015, I met Armando through Jana and I hired him to repair the deck in my back yard. He was quick, friendly and professional. He replaced the rotten wood pieces and made sure that the replacement pieces fit perfectly. He explained why he replaced certain pieces and showed me which pieces were still structurally sound. I can tell you that this couple is honest, trustworthy and really talented. Together, they truly compliment each other's skill set. I will definitely hire them again when I get ready to remodel my kitchen!

I have been an ASID designer, guest on HGTV, and featured in HGTV'S coffee table book "The Best of Designer's Challenge" , and licensed General contractor for almost forty years. While working in El Paso, Texas, I hired Jana Valdez through A-1 Kitchen designs to work with me in designing and supplying cabinets for several projects. She was creative, efficient, and a master at follow through. Everything was done well and ON TIME. We NEVER had to delay plumbers or stone masons because cabinets were not ready.
