The square patterned porcelain tiles make a simple statement in this country styled kitchen. Extensive counter space makes entertaining and alike a breeze. The recessed ceiling lights and center ceiling light illuminate this kitchen with ease.

Middlefork was retained to update and revitalize this North Shore home to a family of six. The primary goal of this project was to update and expand the home's small, eat-in kitchen. The existing space was gutted and a 1,500-square-foot addition was built to house a gourmet kitchen, connected breakfast room, fireside seating, butler's pantry, and a small office. The family desired nice, timeless spaces that were also durable and family-friendly. As such, great consideration was given to the interior finishes. The 10' kitchen island, for instance, is a solid slab of white velvet quartzite, selected for its ability to withstand mustard, ketchup and finger-paint. There are shorter, walnut extensions off either end of the island that support the children's involvement in meal preparation and crafts. Low-maintenance Atlantic Blue Stone was selected for the perimeter counters. The scope of this phase grew to include re-trimming the front façade and entry to emphasize the Georgian detailing of the home. In addition, the balance of the first floor was gutted; existing plumbing and electrical systems were updated; all windows were replaced; two powder rooms were updated; a low-voltage distribution system for HDTV and audio was added; and, the interior of the home was re-trimmed. Luxurious modern take on a traditional white Italian villa. An entry with a silver domed ceiling, painted moldings in patterns on the walls and mosaic marble flooring create a luxe foyer. Into the formal living room, cool polished Crema Marfil marble tiles contrast with honed carved limestone fireplaces throughout the home, including the outdoor loggia. Ceilings are coffered with white painted crown moldings and beams, or planked, and the dining room has a mirrored ceiling. Bathrooms are white marble tiles and counters, with dark rich wood stains or white painted. The hallway leading into the master bedroom is designed with barrel vaulted ceilings and arched paneled wood stained doors. The master bath and vestibule floor is covered with a carpet of patterned mosaic marbles, and the interior doors to the large walk in master closets are made with leaded glass to let in the light. The master bedroom has dark walnut planked flooring, and a white painted fireplace surround with a white marble hearth. The kitchen features white marbles and white ceramic tile backsplash, white painted cabinetry and a dark stained island with carved molding legs. Next to the kitchen, the bar in the family room has terra cotta colored marble on the backsplash and counter over dark walnut cabinets. The alder table was custom made for the space in two pieces, with hinges and support to make the table large enough for large family gatherings. My top design goal was to create a functional workshop for cooking that improved the client's lifestyle. The layout was key: especially using separate food prep and clean-up sinks to create individual workstations. The step-in corner pantry is a very efficient use of floor space and maximizes not only storage capacity but also visibility—the client opens one door and can see everything she has on hand at a glance. This is the feature she likes best. The husband is the primary cook and he loves the high-BTU burner Wolf rangetop. It accommodates his 13-inch All-Clad saute pan with ease and makes all his stovetop cooking faster, better, and more fun. Farmhouse Kitchen remodel in original Quaker Boys School building, now a family home. A true turnkey project, we incorporated the homeowner's need for modern conveniences while staying true to the style of the building. An antique oak barn beam mantle, exposed original log walls, antique brick reclaimed from an old charcoal factory out west, and barn siding oak flooring made this a labor of love!

This kitchen features a 60" Wolf range with a custom hood liner, built by the contractor. The cabinets are custom made in our shop. They are rustic alder with metal nail heads on every door and drawer. The contractor is Dover Development and Construction. The interior designer is Finial Designs.
