The kitchen is designed for two serious home chefs who often entertain guests for dinner parties. Merging the kitchen and dining room into a singular space was a strategic design decision to both foster their style of ‘chefs table’ entertaining, and also make the most efficient use of valuable floor space - a common consideration in most Toronto homes. The table becomes an island-like surface for additional prep space, and also as the surface upon which the meal is eventually enjoyed.

San Diego kitchen remodel to update a 1950's Serra Mesa galley kitchen using warm chestnut oak cabinets and creamy Brazilian granite countertops. A wall was removed next to the refrigerator to create an open and inviting atmosphere. Upside Development completed an contemporary architectural transformation in Taylor Creek Ranch. Evolving from the belief that a beautiful home is more than just a very large home, this 1940’s bungalow was meticulously redesigned to entertain its next life. It's contemporary architecture is defined by the beautiful play of wood, brick, metal and stone elements. The flow interchanges all around the house between the dark black contrast of brick pillars and the live dynamic grain of the Canadian cedar facade. The multi level roof structure and wrapping canopies create the airy gloom similar to its neighbouring ravine.

An open house lot is like a blank canvas. When Mathew first visited the wooded lot where this home would ultimately be built, the landscape spoke to him clearly. Standing with the homeowner, it took Mathew only twenty minutes to produce an initial color sketch that captured his vision - a long, circular driveway and a home with many gables set at a picturesque angle that complemented the contours of the lot perfectly. The interior was designed using a modern mix of architectural styles – a dash of craftsman combined with some colonial elements – to create a sophisticated yet truly comfortable home that would never look or feel ostentatious. Features include a bright, open study off the entry. This office space is flanked on two sides by walls of expansive windows and provides a view out to the driveway and the woods beyond. There is also a contemporary, two-story great room with a see-through fireplace. This space is the heart of the home and provides a gracious transition, through two sets of double French doors, to a four-season porch located in the landscape of the rear yard. The archetypal Traditional In-frame kitchen – quintessentially British. Crafted from solid Oak, and shown with fine beading detailing and satin chrome butt hinges. Oak is an enduring timber - warm, natural and tactile, yet dependable and fit for all seasons. Design In this kitchen environment the Wallace door retains its robust yet subtle proportions, but the addition of painted doors mixed with the natural oak finish of the main island units adds that little extra something. Here we’ve used the Fern finish on the peninsula unit and seating area, whilst the base and wall units are finished in Travertine. Cleverly designed accessories bring this set to life and create points of interest. The peninsula unit forms a unique focal point, and the 1/3 glazed wall doors add a little extra luxury. The plate rack to the left of the cooker offers useful and functional storage space. There is no mistaking this is an exemplary timber kitchen.
