Jenny was open to using IKEA cabinetry throughout, but ultimately decided on Semihandmade’s Light Gray Shaker door style. “I wanted to maximize storage, maintain affordability, and spice up visual interest by mixing up shelving and closed cabinets,” she says. “And I wanted to display nice looking things and hide uglier things, like Tupperware pieces.” This was key as her original kitchen was dark, cramped and had inefficient storage, such as wire racks pressed up against her refrigerator and limited counter space. To remedy this, the upper cabinetry is mixed asymmetrically throughout, over the long run of countertops along the wall by the refrigerator and above the food prep area and above the stove. “Stylistically, these cabinets blended well with the butcher block countertops and the large Moroccan/Spanish tile design on the floor,” she notes.

The owners of this home, purchased it from an architect, who converted an old factory, in downtown Jersey City, into a house. When the family grew, they needed to either move, or extend this house they love so much. Being that this is a historical-preservation building, the front had to remain 'as is'. Owners hired Fogarty Finger architects to redesign the home and Kuche+Cucina, for the kitchen, closets and the party kitchenette. Pedini cabinets were chosen, for their sleek, minimal look, in both matte glass and matte lacquer, for different textures. The work countertop, was done in durable quartz, while the island and the backsplash are real marble.

These thoughtful material choices are a testament to our commitment to creating spaces that resonate with character and warmth. Above, a pair of mustard pendant lights in Murano glass, hang with elegance, their vibrant color casting a welcoming glow over the island. These striking fixtures are not just sources of light but beacons of style that encapsulate our attention to detail and our flair for marrying functionality with aesthetic appeal. The kitchen opens up to an idyllic view of the garden, where floor-to-ceiling glass panels invite the outdoors in, blurring the boundaries between the built and natural environments. This seamless integration is a hallmark of our design philosophy, offering a serene backdrop of lush greenery and enhancing the sense of openness in the kitchen. With a foundation of polished concrete underfoot, the space is anchored in contemporary design while remaining versatile and resilient. Each element in this kitchen has been carefully curated to create a cohesive narrative—one of modern luxury interwoven with an appreciation for the beauty of natural elements.

This project was part of Channel Nine's 2019 TV program 'Love Shack' where LTKI collaborated with homeowners and renovation specialists Deanne & Darren Jolly. The 'Love Shack' is situated in the beautiful coastal town of Fingal on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula. Dea & Darren transformed a small and dated 3 bedroom 'shack' into a stunning family home with a significant extension and redesign of the whole property. Let's Talk Kitchens & Interiors' Managing Director Rex Hirst was engaged to design and build all of the cabinetry for the project including kitchen, scullery, mudroom, laundry, bathroom vanities, entertainment units, master walk-in-robe and wardrobes. We think the combination of Dea's honed eye for colour and style and Rex's skills in spatial planning and Interior Design have culminated in a truly spectacular family home. The large open space continues the themes set out in the Living and Dining areas with a similar palette of darker surfaces and finishes, chosen to create an effect that is highly evocative of past centuries, linking new and old with a poetic approach. The dark grey concrete floor is a paired with traditional but luxurious Tadelakt Moroccan plaster, chose for its uneven and natural texture as well as beautiful earthy hues. The supporting structure is exposed and painted in a deep red hue to suggest the different functional areas and create a unique interior which is then reflected on the exterior of the extension.

A stunning marble splashback accentuates the cooking zone, with more practical surfaces – poured concrete on the island with a waterfall detail to the gable and Cosentino Cemento concrete effect quartz on the countertops, ensure peace of mind when preparing food.

Here is a kitchen with colour and texture combined to achieve a beautiful modern country look. With 2pac painted shaker doors and bamboo bench tops it really has an impact on the room. Storage was not compromised in any way with every cabinet revealing a clever storage feature.
