During the design process it grew to having a living space above the studio, which grew to having a small house attached to the studio forming a compound. At this point it became clear to the client; the project was outgrowing the neighborhood. After re-evaluating the project, the live / work compound is currently sited in a natural protected nest with post card views of Mount Sopris & the Roaring Fork Valley. The courtyard compound consist of the central south facing piece being the studio flanked by a simple 2500 sq ft 2 bedroom, 2 story house one the west side, and a multi purpose guest wing /studio on the east side. The evolution of this compound came to include the desire to have the building blend into the surrounding landscape, and at the same time become the backdrop to create and display his sculpture. “Jess has been our architect on several projects over the past ten years. A kitchen remodel in an existing house. The combination of both door styles was to express the client’s style, while allowing to blend nicely with the rest of the house. The color combinations helps to lighten up the feeling of the kitchen and create more light into this part of the house. Existing dropped ceiling and arched structure above the opening to the kitchen was removed to be able to update the look of the structure to the current modern updated style of the house. Door Style Finish: Alno Sign. High gloss lacquer door style, in the white color. Combined with an accent of the Alno Plan laminate door style that has some dark strings of grays and white into it.

My minimalist thinking client wanted nothing but a faucet on the sink back. The sink has a disposer, code requires an air gap, so where is everything? The building inspector approved the backflow preventer that is integrated into the Miele dishwasher as an acceptable alternative to an air gap. The switch for the disposer is an air switch that rides in the front of the top drawer under the sink. The top drawer was largely cut away to fit around the sink, but is has room for the switch and some sink accessories. It still has soft-close, full extension drawer guides. Great example of what can be done with IKEA cabinets - something we use often and in all different applications. The kitchen previously was a third of the size and dark oak. Taking out a wall and extending the bright white kitchen into the large dining area has given the home owners a wonderful space to do their everyday living.
