The kitchen opens up to the outdoor entertaining area and has a nice open layout. The coffee bar on the side gets lots of use from all of the family members and keeps people out of the cooking area if they need to grab a cup of coffee or tea. Appliances are Miele and Fisher & Paykel. The bar-top is black Fenix.

Large Kitchen Island Has Open and Concealed Storage. The large island in this loft kitchen isn't only a place to eat, it offers valuable storage space. By removing doors and adding millwork, the island now has a mix of open and concealed storage. The island's black and white color scheme is nicely contrasted by the copper pendant lights above and the teal front door.

Modern open kitchen flooded with light by a wall of windows. Ventilation provided by single Tilt Only window above sink. The entire kitchen is encompassed in light wood panels. The open wood shelving mirrors the surrounding wood, seamlessly integrating the discreet open storage. A desk station flanks the kitchen with a full wall of windows, providing natural light and views.

All the wall cabinets reach almost to the ceiling and are accented with a slim ¾” recessed negative detail to add visual interest while keeping them from overpowering the room. Pairing the smoky woodgrain melamine and high gloss brown/gray PET gave the room a warm yet unmistakably European feel without being too stark and provides easy maintenance. we created a practical, L-shaped kitchen layout with an island bench integrated into the “golden triangle” that reduces steps between sink, stovetop and refrigerator for efficient use of space and ergonomics. Instead of a splashback, windows are slotted in between the kitchen benchtop and overhead cupboards to allow natural light to enter the generous kitchen space. Overhead cupboards have been stretched to ceiling height to maximise storage space. Timber screening was installed on the kitchen ceiling and wrapped down to form a bookshelf in the living area, then linked to the timber flooring. This creates a continuous flow and draws attention from the living area to establish an ambience of natural warmth, creating a minimalist and elegant kitchen. The island benchtop is covered with extra large format porcelain tiles in a 'Calacatta' profile which are have the look of marble but are scratch and stain resistant. The 'crisp white' finish applied on the overhead cupboards blends well into the 'natural oak' look over the lower cupboards to balance the neutral timber floor colour.

A seamless stainless steel countertop complements the knotty pine interior. A drawer refrigerator is located beneath the induction cooktop. Ladder rungs to the the felt-lined reading nook above the bathroom are hand fabricated. Photo by Kate Russell

The end wall is a fantastic improvement. We built a space to fully enclose a full-sized french door refrigerator. That's a broom closet on the left side. Adjustable shelving above provides good space for larger items.

Kitchen with concrete floors & island bench, lime green splashback. Plumbing for upstairs bathroom concealed in drop ceiling to kitchen. Clever idea that lets you make the rest of the room higher - only the bit where the plumbing needs to go is lower - also makes the kitchen look great with feature lighting.

The Scandinavian modern interior design emphasizes mulit-use living space. The kitchen island doubles as the dining table; minimalism and functionality. The unique approach to window placement at counter level below the cabinets maximizes the natural light and incorporates the gorgeous outdoor landscape into the kitchen design.

When it became time for a sorely needed update for this home in central Austin, the owners decided it would be best accomplished in two phases. The most notable change occurred in the kitchen which held the place as the the larger part of phase one. As you can see, the space is very small, with no way for expansion. The use of a very efficient space design by Cindy Black of Hello Kitchen, paired with my European cabinetry served to provide the best use of space.
