Custom craftsmanship and distinctive detailing give this lakefront residence its vintage flavor while an open and light-filled floor plan clearly mark it as contemporary. With its interesting shingled roof lines, abundant windows with decorative brackets and welcoming porch, the exterior takes in surrounding views while the interior meets and exceeds contemporary expectations of ease and comfort. The main level features almost 3,000 square feet of open living, from the charming entry with multiple window seats and built-in benches to the central 15 by 22-foot kitchen, 22 by 18-foot living room with fireplace and adjacent dining and a relaxing, almost 300-square-foot screened-in porch. Nearby is a private sitting room and a 14 by 15-foot master bedroom with built-ins and a spa-style double-sink bath with a beautiful barrel-vaulted ceiling. The main level also includes a work room and first floor laundry, while the 2,165-square-foot second level includes three bedroom suites, a loft and a separate 966-square-foot guest quarters with private living area, kitchen and bedroom. Rounding out the offerings is the 1,960-square-foot lower level, where you can rest and recuperate in the sauna after a workout in your nearby exercise room. Also featured is a 21 by 18-family room, a 14 by 17-square-foot home theater, and an 11 by 12-foot guest bedroom suite.

The carcass of this kitchen was still fine but change in style and colour was desired. The replacement doors were bespokely made by a local Carpenter. Replacement 20mm worktops were installed for a modern look mixed with a marble floor and brass fixtures and fittings. Purewell Electrical (Christchurch) were great in supplying new appliances. The dining table with a chevron effect top with metal legs was made to order and surrounded with blue velvet chairs and Danetti chevron backed bar stools. Villa nova fabric is amazing with its blue and yellow tones. Has an appearance of trees.

Designer Sarah Robertson of Studio Dearborn helped a neighbor and friend to update a “builder grade” kitchen into a personal, family space that feels luxurious and inviting. The homeowner wanted to solve a number of storage and flow problems in the kitchen, including a wasted area dedicated to a desk, too-little pantry storage, and her wish for a kitchen bar. The all white builder kitchen lacked character, and the client wanted to inject color, texture and personality into the kitchen while keeping it classic.

The key elements of natural light, the warmth of maple, shiplap detailing, and metal accents were strategically combined to create this kitchen full of functionality while remaining aesthetically pleasing.

We opened up a wall between the kitchen and dining room and replaced a table with a seated peninsula (seated on two sides) which can double as a work station. Executive Sedona Flat Panel doors in Chalk and Cavalry paint. Counters are ice white granite.

A modern kitchen in a custom blue and gray finish, made specially by the cabinetry manufacturer. A pre-existing cantilevered kitchen island was transformed into a stationary island with seating, storage, roll out shelving, and properly sized drawers for pots and pans. The open-concept condo features beautiful wooden beams that pairs nicely with the blue, gray, and white coloring. Project designed by Skokie renovation firm, Chi Renovation & Design. For the backsplash, marble tiles and listellos were carefully designed to create an arched top niche that mirrors the shape of the range hood opening. Niche tiles were intentionally arranged in a different pattern to delineate it from the running bond pattern used on the rest of the backsplash. Three hand-painted and fired tiles created by the homeowner are incorporated into the niche. Niche doubles as a focal point and as a convenient place to store cooking oils and condiments. An inline blower for the range was mounted in the adjacent garage attic and vents it out the roof. The result is a very quiet fan taking care of the homeowners’ ventilation needs and meeting their desire for diminished noise. My busy, family-centric clients wanted to avoid any major construction and keep the original cabinetry and counters in the kitchen. Working withing the room’s existing confines, the overall objective was to enhance the aesthetic of each space. We repainted the existing bland cabinetry an inviting Wedgewood gray by Benjamin Moore to draw the eye to the cabinetry and away from the dated granite counter tops. We replaced the existing commonplace pendants with larger brass and white glass statement globes that have subtle yet detailed metal bands with brass rivets. The hardware on the cabinets was replaced with French-inspired brass knobs and pulls.
