This kitchen features a deep drawer with a roll-out drawer. The homeowner uses the thin roll-out for storing baking sheets, pans, and muffin tins and the deep drawer below for storage for mixing bowls, strainers, colanders, and other larger baking and food prep supplies. This white-on-white kitchen design has a transitional style and incorporates beautiful clean lines. It features a Personal Paint Match finish on the Kitchen Island matched to Sherwin-Williams "Threshold Taupe" SW7501 and a mix of light tan paint and vibrant orange décor. These colors really pop out on the “white canvas” of this design. The designer chose a beautiful combination of white Dura Supreme cabinetry (in "Classic White" paint), white subway tile backsplash, white countertops, white trim, and a white sink. The built-in breakfast nook (L-shaped banquette bench seating) attached to the kitchen island was the perfect choice to give this kitchen seating for entertaining and a kitchen island that will still have free counter space while the homeowner entertains. The existing U-shaped kitchen was tucked away in a small corner while the dining table was swimming in a room much too large for its size. The client’s needs and the architecture of the home made it apparent that the perfect design solution for the home was to swap the spaces. The homeowners entertain frequently and wanted the new layout to accommodate a lot of counter seating, a bar/buffet for serving hors d’oeuvres, an island with prep sink, and all new appliances. They had a strong preference that the hood be a focal point and wanted to go beyond a typical white color scheme even though they wanted white cabinets. While moving the kitchen to the dining space gave us a generous amount of real estate to work with, two of the exterior walls are occupied with full-height glass creating a challenge how best to fulfill their wish list. We used one available wall for the needed tall appliances, taking advantage of its height to create the hood as a focal point. We opted for both a peninsula and island instead of one large island in order to maximize the seating requirements and create a barrier when entertaining so guests do not flow directly into the work area of the kitchen. This also made it possible to add a second sink as requested. Lastly, the peninsula sets up a well-defined path to the new dining room without feeling like you are walking through the kitchen. We used the remaining fourth wall for the bar/buffet. Black cabinetry adds strong contrast in several areas of the new kitchen. Wire mesh wall cabinet doors at the bar and gold accents on the hardware, light fixtures, faucets and furniture add further drama to the concept. The focal point is definitely the black hood, looking both dramatic and cohesive at the same time.

The Scandinavian modern interior design emphasizes mulit-use living space. The kitchen island doubles as the dining table; minimalism and functionality. The unique approach to window placement at counter level below the cabinets maximizes the natural light and incorporates the gorgeous outdoor landscape into the kitchen design.

The home’s open-plan kitchen, living, and dining area boasts a four-metre high raked ceiling – creating an undeniably light and airy feeling. The whitewashed ply ceiling was the cherry on top of the home’s beach-daydream feel.

Designing this traditional kitchen for a more updated layout was a breath of fresh air for this ranch style home. A large island, wide plank flooring, and farmhouse style lighting rounded out the look with classic white cabinetry.

The cement tile below the kitchen island counter provides a beautiful and colorful surprise element. The choice to install shelves instead of cabinets keeps the walls light and open. The recessed stove fan creates a modern clean look. Photo Credit: Meghan Caudill

A marble hearth behind the La Cornue range and brass trimmed hood center under a graceful herring bone brick barrel ceiling. Heavy distressed wood beams contrast from the white painted decking ceiling in the nook. Glass shelving and marble counters reflect the natural light spilling in from 16 foot tall windows.

As part of the kitchen reconfiguration, we sacrificed a small window to build out a compact and efficient walk-in pantry. This well-organized space was designed with a combination of drawers, adjustable shelves and counter space. Eliminating countertop appliances from the main kitchen helps keep the space clutter-free.
