Overview Slick, rear facing extension with internal space planning throughout the ground floor enhancing existing and creating new spaces The Brief Transform a mid-terrace Edwardian home into a light, inspiring and practical family space with neat lines and simple elevations to complement a family garden space. Using as much glass as possible to the rear and incorporating new contemporary kitchen and back of house spaces we transformed the house from a dark and celular series of spaces to a WOW factor, flexible home. Our Solution We started by removing the elements that didnt work for the family, taking out walls and the rear ground floor elevation. We then looked to support the walls above with a new steel superstructure keeping the new space open plan. We wanted the route from the entrance lobby, where friends and relatives congregate, to the rear family space to be open and light with an obvious route to the new space. The back of house space (utility, laundry and WC/storage) was positioned in the centre of the plan leaving us to develop an open plan space with light flooding in. We opted for a simple and crisp aesthetic with light colours and materials and excellent finishing by the build team. The client has furnished the space to a high standard giving this house a brilliant look and feel that has enhanced the value and created a flexible space the family can live in for years to come.

This grey stained walnut kitchen was designed with Kurt Knapstein in a historical home in Kansas City. The blend of old and new elements allow this kitchen to mesh peacefully with the home, while easily standing on it's own.

During the renovation, the cherry cabinets, appliances and dark soapstone counters were retained to visually anchor the kitchen. New birds eye maple cabinets were added to complement the cherry cabinets. Lighting in the kitchen and dining areas is multi-functional and provides varied levels for general or task lighting, or lower light levels for dining.

This modern extension to a listed property resulted in this truly fabulous kitchen. Glamorous, practical - yet will not date or age over time. There is an arrangement of painted base and wall cupboards around the sink area with a large bank of tall housings which incorporate two ovens, microwave, steam oven and two warming drawers. There is a fully integrated fridge and freezer and a bespoke larder cupboard. The sink run has Corian worktops, with moulded bowls. The walnut centre island measures 6.5m across the diagonal. This has been split onto 3 different levels - the main principal level, a slightly raised chopping board and a raised breakfast area on the back. Stainless steel plinth and bespoke stainless steel handles complete the design. Within the island there is an induction hob, with ceiling extractor over, small prep sink and walnut end-grain chopping board which sits on top of curved cupboards

A downtown San Diego, California contemporary Kitchen with a twist--the customer requested a beautiful antique mirror to be installed as the back splash. The stainless steel panel behind the stove matches the mirror but serves as a functional part of the kitchen. Recessed lighting is matched with pendant lighting to create a cool ambiance. Although this Knightsbridge Apartment had a small footprint the ceilings were high so we designed the furniture to be full height framed by 'goal posts'. Clever storage, retractable cabinets and a Quooker Fusion Tap meant the surfaces could be kept clutter free as the space doubled as a kitchen supper dining room! Mirror splashbacks opposite the window help to create a light open feel to the room.
