Traditional Colonial Estate Exterior, 4 Car Garage and Workshop

We renovated the exterior and the 4-car garage of this colonial, New England-style estate in Haverford, PA. The 3-story main house has white, western red cedar siding and a green roof. The detached, 4-car garage also functions as a gentleman’s workshop. Originally, that building was two separate structures. The challenge was to create one building with a cohesive look that fit with the main house’s New England style. Challenge accepted! We started by building a breezeway to connect the two structures. The new building’s exterior mimics that of the main house’s siding, stone and roof, and has copper downspouts and gutters. The stone exterior has a German shmear finish to make the stone look as old as the stone on the house. The workshop portion features mahogany, carriage style doors. The workshop floors are reclaimed Belgian block brick. RUDLOFF Custom Builders has won Best of Houzz for Customer Service in 2014, 2015 2016 and 2017. Nestled next to a mountain side and backing up to a creek, this home encompasses the mountain feel. With its neutral yet rich exterior colors and textures, the architecture is simply picturesque. A custom Knotty Alder entry door is preceded by an arched stone column entry porch. White Oak flooring is featured throughout and accentuates the home’s stained beam and ceiling accents. Custom cabinetry in the Kitchen and Great Room create a personal touch unique to only this residence. The Master Bathroom features a free-standing tub and all-tiled shower. Upstairs, the game room boasts a large custom reclaimed barn wood sliding door. The Juliette balcony gracefully over looks the handsome Great Room. Downstairs the screen porch is cozy with a fireplace and wood accents. Sitting perpendicular to the home, the detached three-car garage mirrors the feel of the main house by staying with the same paint colors, and features an all metal roof. The spacious area above the garage is perfect for a future living or storage area.

5000 square foot garage makeover or "Man Cave" designed and installed by Custom Storage Solutions. This design includes PVC garage flooring in Nascar colors purple, yellow and red, custom made bar with a fish tank inside, red, chrome and blue diamond plate, wall murals, diamond plate walls, imaged cabinets and pub tables. Customer used this space to entertain his 200 employees during holiday events and parties. He also uses this space for his car collection. we took all of the photos used on the imaged cabinets made by Custom Storage Solutions.

Peterson Homes Interior Designer: Francesca Owens Photographers: Ashley Avila Photography, Bill Hebert, & FulView Capped by a picturesque double chimney and distinguished by its distinctive roof lines and patterned brick, stone and siding, Rookwood draws inspiration from Tudor and Shingle styles, two of the world’s most enduring architectural forms. Popular from about 1890 through 1940, Tudor is characterized by steeply pitched roofs, massive chimneys, tall narrow casement windows and decorative half-timbering. Shingle’s hallmarks include shingled walls, an asymmetrical façade, intersecting cross gables and extensive porches. A masterpiece of wood and stone, there is nothing ordinary about Rookwood, which combines the best of both worlds. Once inside the foyer, the 3,500-square foot main level opens with a 27-foot central living room with natural fireplace. Nearby is a large kitchen featuring an extended island, hearth room and butler’s pantry with an adjacent formal dining space near the front of the house. Also featured is a sun room and spacious study, both perfect for relaxing, as well as two nearby garages that add up to almost 1,500 square foot of space. A large master suite with bath and walk-in closet which dominates the 2,700-square foot second level which also includes three additional family bedrooms, a convenient laundry and a flexible 580-square-foot bonus space. Downstairs, the lower level boasts approximately 1,000 more square feet of finished space, including a recreation room, guest suite and additional storage.

Luxury Custom Home Renovation, Detached Garage

The home is roughly 80 years old and had a strong character to start our design from. The home had been added onto and updated several times previously so we stripped back most of these areas in order to get back to the original house before proceeding. The addition started around the Kitchen, updating and re-organizing this space making a beautiful, simply elegant space that makes a strong statement with its barrel vault ceiling. We opened up the rest of the family living area to the kitchen and pool patio areas, making this space flow considerably better than the original house. The remainder of the house, including attic areas, was updated to be in similar character and style of the new kitchen and living areas. Additional baths were added as well as rooms for future finishing. We added a new attached garage with a covered drive that leads to rear facing garage doors. The addition spaces (including the new garage) also include a full basement underneath for future finishing – this basement connects underground to the original homes basement providing one continuous space. New balconies extend the home’s interior to the quiet, well groomed exterior. The homes additions make this project’s end result look as if it all could have been built in the 1930’s.

A minimal insertion into a densely wooded landscape, the Collector’s Pavilion provides the owners with an 8,000 sf private fitness space and vintage automobile gallery. On a gently sloping site in amongst a grove of trees, the pavilion slides into the topography - mimicking and contrasting the surrounding landscape with a folded roof plane that hovers over a board formed concrete base. The clients’ requirement for a nearby room to display a growing car collection as well as provide a remote area for personal fitness carries with it a series of challenges related to privacy and security. The pavilion nestles into the wooded site - finding a home in a small clearing - and merges with the sloping landscape. The building has dual personalities, serving as a private and secure bunker from the exterior, while transforming into a warm and inviting space on the interior. The use of indirect light and the need to obscure direct views from the public right away provides the client with adequate day light for day-to-day use while ensuring that strict privacy is maintained. This shifting personality is also dramatically affected by the seasons - contrasting and merging with the surrounding environment depending on the time of year. The Collector’s Pavilion employs meticulous detailing of its concrete to steel to wood connections, exploring the grounded nature of poured concrete in conjunction with a delicate wood roof system that floats above a grid of steel. Above all, the Pavilion harmonizes with it’s natural surroundings through it’s materiality, formal language, and siting. ガレージのリフォームお考えですか？マイホームへの引っ越しや、車の乗り換えの時期に合わせて、防犯性能を高めたいなど、駐車スペースのリフォームや増設、拡張のきっかけはご家庭によってさまざま。カースペース、カーポート、ビルトインガレージなど、駐車場・ガレージの種類をスタイル別に分け、それぞれの特色をご紹介します。

駐車場やガレージの種類と特徴

車を停めるためのスペースには、家や庭と一体化したフルオープンの「カースペース」、「カーポート」、「ガレージ」と、大きく3種類に分類されます。ご自宅の外観のイメージや敷地、愛車の種類や、ライフスタイルに合ったものをお選びください。

カースペース：カースペースは屋根も壁も設けないオープンなスタイルの駐車場で、短い工期で完成できる、工事費が安く抑えられる、乗り降りや荷物の積み下ろしが簡単、などの利点があります。一方、直射日光や雨風から愛車を守れない、防犯面で不安があるといった側面は、事前に考慮にいれるべき点と言えます。マンションやアパートなどの集合住宅では、敷地内の1階部分に設けていることが多くみられます。
カーポート：カーポートは一戸建て住宅の中で最もポピュラーなタイプの駐車場で、屋根と柱のみで構成された車止めスペースを指します。屋根が付いているため、雨降りの日でも濡れることなく乗り降りしたり、荷物を積み降ろしたりすることができます。カーポートの設置は、壁にがあるガレージよりもスペースを取らず、費用も安く抑えることができます。カーポートのスタイルは「片流れ」と呼ばれる、片方の二本の柱で屋根を支える形がもっとも標準的な形ですが、積雪地や風の強い地域では「折板タイプ」が多く取り入れられています。屋根の素材によっては、雨や日照による塗装の色褪せやシートの日焼けから車を守り、車内温度の上昇を防止するといった効果も期待することができます。カーポートのサイズは、一般的に 3m×6m が必要とされていますが、自転車やバイクを駐輪する場合、さらに 1m が必要となります。家の前の道路の幅や、家の向きなどの他、バックで駐車する場合、家に対して斜めに駐車する場合、複数の車を縦列駐車する場合、などの条件を考慮するようにしましょう。カーポートのセキュリティを強化する場合、門扉（カーゲート）の設置は欠かせません。人感センサーが付いた照明を設置すれば、さらに防犯効果が高まります。門扉にはさまざまなスタイルがありますので、家の外観にぴったり合うものを選びましょう。
ガレージ：ガレージ（車庫）は、柱と梁、壁、屋根で構成される「車を格納する建築物」を指します。家から独立したスタイルや、建物の一部として組み込まれるスタイルのものまであり、あらゆる天候から愛車を守り、カースペースやカーポートに比べても、防犯性が高いのが大きな特徴と言えます。ガレージは閉ざされた空間のため、カーポートよりも大きなスペースを必要とします。ドアを開けての乗り降りや、メンテナンスのことを考えると、奥行きは前と後に30〜50cm、床から天井までの高さは 2m は確保するとよいでしょう。また、ガレージは車を停めておくスペースとして使うだけでなく、趣味の空間、暮らしを豊かに楽しむための空間として取り入れてみてはいかがでしょうか？大型スクリーンを設置して、ドライブイン・シアターさながらの大迫力で映画を楽しんだり、楽器の練習をしたり、日曜大工や油絵、陶芸などの趣味を満喫したりと、ガレージの活用法は無限大に広がります。

駐車スペース建築前の確認事項

独立型のガレージはもちろんのこと、柱と屋根だけで建設されるカーポートのように駐車スペースが住まいと別棟になる場合、三方が壁で囲まれていなくても、屋根があれば「建築物（建物）」と分類されるため、建築基準法や都市計画法が適用される場合があります。法律が適用されると、建ぺい率、容積率、採光、用途地域、地区計画、仕様規定などに関する条件が基準に基づき定められるため、いくら自分の家の敷地内であっても、希望するタイプのガレージ・駐車スペースを作ることができない場合があります。また、火災や地震保険の対象物となるためにも、事前に施工業者とよく相談し、建設可能な駐車スペースのタイプを把握し、きちんと届出を提出し申請しておくことが大切です。
