Rear elevation of our beach side renovation project in Kent, positioned just beyond the sand dunes with a beautiful sea view. The existing house interior was renovated with new bathrooms, an extended open plan kitchen and dining space and the loft converted with a new stair and dormer window feature. The rear extension provides a generous balcony to enjoy the sea view and clad with a grey standing seam metal an elegant glass balustrade. Folding sliding doors open up the space to the garden and sea breeze.

Insulated render with dark timber cladding provides a clean modern appearance.

VISION AND NEEDS: Homeowner sought a ‘retreat’ outside of NY that would have water views and offer options for entertaining groups of friends in the house and by pool. Being a car enthusiast, it was important to have a multi-car-garage. MCHUGH SOLUTION: The client sought McHugh because of our recognizable modern designs in the area. We were up for the challenge to design a home with a narrow lot located in a flood zone where views of the Toms River were secured from multiple rooms; while providing privacy on either side of the house. The elevated foundation offered incredible views from the roof. Each guest room opened up to a beautiful balcony. Flower beds, beautiful natural stone quarried from West Virginia and cedar siding, warmed the modern aesthetic, as you ascend to the front porch.

We took a tired 1960s house and transformed it into modern family home. We extended to the back to add a new open plan kitchen & dining area with 3m high sliding doors and to the front to gain a master bedroom, en suite and playroom. We completely overhauled the power and lighting, increased the water flow and added underfloor heating throughout the entire house. The elegant simplicity of nordic design informed our use of a stripped back internal palette of white, wood and grey to create a continuous harmony throughout the house. We installed oak parquet floors, bespoke douglas fir cabinetry and southern yellow pine surrounds to the high performance windows.

In transforming their Aspen retreat, our clients sought a departure from typical mountain decor. With an eclectic aesthetic, we lightened walls and refreshed furnishings, creating a stylish and cosmopolitan yet family-friendly and down-to-earth haven. The renovation and extension has created a healthy, thermally comfortable home that takes advantage of its position on a north-facing laneway to enhance the lifestyles of our clients, a couple of young professionals. With the thoughtful combination of a naturally heated thermal mass slab, a high level of insulation, adjustable shading, natural light and cross-ventilation, this beautiful home will maintain a comfortable temperature with minimal energy consumption year in, year out.

Part two storey and single storey extensions to a semi-detached 1930 home at the back of the house to expand the space for a growing family and allow for the interior to feel brighter and more joyful.

The Rosario-A is a perfect modern home to fit narrow lots at only 48'-0" wide and extending the plan deep to fully utilize space. The striking façade is accentuated by a large shed roof that allows a vaulted ceiling over the main living areas. Clerestory windows in the vaulted ceiling allow light to flood the kitchen, living, and dining room. There is ample room with four bedroom, one of which being a guest suite with a private bath and walk-in closet. A stunning master suite, five piece bath, large vaulted covered patio and 3-car garage are the cherries on top of this amazing plan.
