西側隣地家の庭が緑豊かなので、隣地の緑と一体に感じるように植栽計画を行い、行きかう人々が道すがら木々の豊かさに自然と目が行くように西側に抜け感がありセットバックした配置計画・ファサード計画とした。駐車場スペースもコンクリートとはせず、砕石と必要最低限の洗い出し犬走とすることで道路との一体感により緑に対し邪魔にならないように工夫。建物は普遍的に美しいと感じる木部を強調し、大屋根及び下屋根の軒には吉野杉を、空間の抜け感を感じる門扉はヒノキとヒバで製作し、緑の外壁と木部が周囲の植栽と一体感を得られるようにした。

Our clients already had a cottage on Torch Lake that they loved to visit. It was a 1960s ranch that worked just fine for their needs. However, the lower level walkout became entirely unusable due to water issues. After purchasing the lot next door, they hired us to design a new cottage. Our first task was to situate the home in the center of the two parcels to maximize the view of the lake while also accommodating a yard area. Our second task was to take particular care to divert any future water issues. We took necessary precautions with design specifications to water proof properly, establish foundation and landscape drain tiles / stones, set the proper elevation of the home per ground water height and direct the water flow around the home from natural grade / drive. Our final task was to make appealing, comfortable, living spaces with future planning at the forefront. An example of this planning is placing a master suite on both the main level and the upper level. The ultimate goal of this home is for it to one day be at least a 3/4 of the year home and designed to be a multi-generational heirloom. - Jacqueline Southby Photography

外壁のサイディングは金属サイディング（縦張り）です。 1階と2階の間に中間水切り（目地金物）を設けずに、上から下まで（7m）一枚張りとしました。 7mの長さは特注品となりますが、1階から2階までサイディングの縦のラインが途切れないため、見た目の印象がスッキリとなります。

Traditional two story colonial was painted a grayish green with white trim and russet red accents. We added a new raised panel garage door with windows and poured a concrete driveway and walkway to the backyard gate. Updated exterior lighting and landscaping.

グリーンのガルバリウムを張った片流れ屋根の外観に、レッドシダーの壁を合わせました。自分で木材のメンテナンスを出来るように低い位置にアクセントの木材を配置しました。

The original house is an octagon, and the clients requested an artist studio and a stair to replace the small spiral stair that was the only connection to the ground floor. The solution was building an extrusion off of one of the 8 sides of the octagon. The project is a deck above an artist's studio, with directed views to the woods beyond.

The ceiling aligns with the door and sideline panels to draw visitors toward the main entry.
