This kitchen in a 1911 Craftsman home has taken on a new life full of color and personality. Inspired by the client’s colorful taste and the homes of her family in The Philippines, we leaned into the wild for this design. The first thing the client told us is that she wanted terra cotta floors and green countertops. Beyond this direction, she wanted a place for the refrigerator in the kitchen since it was originally in the breakfast nook. She also wanted a place for waste receptacles, to be able to reach all the shelves in her cabinetry, and a special place to play Mahjong with friends and family. The home presented some challenges in that the stairs go directly over the space where we wanted to move the refrigerator. The client also wanted us to retain the built-ins in the dining room that are on the opposite side of the range wall, as well as the breakfast nook built ins. The solution to these problems were clear to us, and we quickly got to work. We lowered the cabinetry in the refrigerator area to accommodate the stairs above, as well as closing off the unnecessary door from the kitchen to the stairs leading to the second floor. We utilized a recycled body porcelain floor tile that looks like terra cotta to achieve the desired look, but it is much easier to upkeep than traditional terra cotta. In the breakfast nook we used bold jungle themed wallpaper to create a special place that feels connected, but still separate, from the kitchen for the client to play Mahjong in or enjoy a cup of coffee. Finally, we utilized stair pullouts by all the upper cabinets that extend to the ceiling to ensure that the client can reach every shelf.

In this project, the homeowner was drawn towards the rustic and eclectic. Since the interior of the home they purchased had very little character of its own, our job here at down2earth interior design was to infuse it with a look that was lived-in and a little funky. From the antique glaze on the kitchen cabinets, to the leathered texture of the granite countertops, to the mixed metals and the industrial light fixtures, the kitchen is now overflowing with character. We especially love the worn-away look of the tile backsplash.

Eclectic style brings the homeowners personality throughout the kitchen, glass doors let them show off all their vintage finds and family heirlooms. The ceiling detail and pendants tie the room together beautifully.

The coziest of cabins received a much needed kitchen remodel. Reworking the layout just a little bit opened up the space tremendously! New perimeter cabinets in an off white help brighten the space, while a homeowner heirloom was refurbished into a large, functional island with a new butcher block top.

Every detail of this European villa-style home exudes a uniquely finished feel. Our design goals were to invoke a sense of travel while simultaneously cultivating a homely and inviting ambience. This project reflects our commitment to crafting spaces seamlessly blending luxury with functionality. The kitchen was transformed with subtle adjustments to evoke a Parisian café atmosphere. A new island was crafted, featuring exquisite quartzite countertops complemented by a marble mosaic backsplash. Upgrades in plumbing and lighting fixtures were installed, imparting a touch of elegance. Post war bungalow with a cramped kitchen & small dining room, combined the two spaces by removing the wall between them. The end result is open & family friendly, yet still fits the original character of the period.
