What do you do when you have beautiful wood cabinets and an absolutely amazing gas range as an already striking focal point of your kitchen? You add handmade tile of course! In this kitchen the homeowner used 3"x3" Field Tile in White and added splashes of colored 3"x3"s on one wall. Then behind their spectacular stove they added a "stream" of Bubbles in bright, bold colors. The homeowners wanted their kitchen to consist of two requirements; the first, a simplistic kitchen. They wanted a kitchen to present itself as casual, simple, and a place to relax with a cup of tea. Full condo renovation: replaced carpet and laminate flooring with continuous LVP throughout; painted kitchen cabinets; added tile backsplash in kitchen; replaced appliances, sink, and faucet; replaced light fixtures and repositioned/added lights; selected all new furnishings- some brand new, some salvaged from second-hand sellers. Goal of this project was to stretch the dollars, so we worked hard to put money into the areas with highest return and get creative where possible. Phase 2 will be to update additional light fixtures and repaint more areas.

Jennifer and Raymond had found it at an estate sale during the time that they were building their home. They bought it for a song, and years later were shocked when they had it appraised. "This is by far one of the best scores I have ever come across!" Jennifer exclaims. While the openness of the space works perfectly with the couple's lifestyle, there are changes ahead for surfaces and cabinetry. "Because of the color palette in the house, it no longer works with anything else," Jennifer explains. "It's only 14 years old, but time has changed and its time is up!" This kitchen began as ordinary and blossomed into a unique and memorable family friendly kitchen. By the simple addition of panels on the front of this peninsula the visual impact of this kitchen was transformed. Saturated color was the second most impactful element added. Navy Blue on the peninsula and lower cabinets and bright oranges, yellows and reds for accent colors. The soft grey walls, clean crisp white on both the upper cabinets and quartz countertops gave the perfect balance to this design. Durable, affordable laminate flooring laid on a diagonal was ideal for warmth and every day livability. The additional built-in coat closet with bench and bookcase gave the final touches of personality and functionality to this family friendly space.

This kitchen is a great example of casual elegance. The color palette is made up of whites and creams, making the kitchen soft and appealing to the eye. This very typical, 1947 built, story-and-a-half home in South Minneapolis had a small ‘U’ shaped kitchen adjacent to a similarly small dining room. These homeowners needed more space to prepare meals and store all the items needed in a modern kitchen. With a standard side entry access there was no more than a landing at the top of the basement stairs – no place to hang coats or even take off shoes! Many years earlier, a small screened-in porch had been added off the dining room, but it was getting minimal use in our Minnesota climate. With a new, spacious, family room addition in the place of the old screen porch and a 5’ expansion off the kitchen and side entry, along with removing the wall between the kitchen and the dining room, this home underwent a total transformation. What was once small cramped spaces is now a wide open great room containing kitchen, dining and family gathering spaces. As a bonus, a bright and functional mudroom was included to meet all their active family’s storage needs. Natural light now flows throughout the space and Carrara marble accents in both the kitchen and around the fireplace tie the rooms together quite nicely! An ample amount of kitchen storage space was gained with Bayer Interior Woods cabinetry and stainless steel appliances are one of many modern conveniences this family can now enjoy daily.
