A kitchen revamp was in order for a local chef and his wife who, manages a local B&B. The foodie duo were tired of their dingy, poorly designed, 1980's style kitchen and desired a bright and open work space where they can kick back and prepare delicious meals for themselves, when they aren't cooking for other people. The space was gutted and reconfigured, switching the sink and stove placement, and situating the refrigerator on the opposite wall, to create a better work triangle. Budget constraints dictated a plan that will be done in phases, and allows more cabinets to be added at a later date, where the open pantry currently lives. A rolling cabinet, with butcher block top, situated to the right of the stove, (unfinished by the cabinet company at the time of the photo shoot), can be pulled into the room to provide a portable island. Budget friendly materials were sourced, including luxury vinyl tile for the floors, that mimics the look of concrete, and laminate counter tops that evoke the look of granite. The kitchen dining area was given a total revamp where the cabinets were repainted, with the lower ones in a dark blue and the top ones in 'beige' to match the wall and tile splashback colour. Splashes of mustard were used to give a pop of colour. The fireplace was tiled and used for wine storage and the lighting updated in antique brass fittings. The adjoining hall area was also updated and the existing cabinet modified and painted same blue as the lower kitchen ones for a cohesive look. Photos by Simply C Photography

The juxtaposition of soft texture and feminine details against hard metal and concrete finishes. Elements of floral wallpaper, paper lanterns, and abstract art blend together to create a sense of warmth. Soaring ceilings are anchored by thoughtfully curated and well placed furniture pieces. The perfect home for two.

Situated in Denton, Texas these clients sought a personalized home from the ground up. It was important that their eclectic style be evidenced in every facet of the home to reflect their lively personalities. The project scope encompassed the dining, kitchen, breakfast nook, living, master bedroom, and master bathroom. Color, fixtures, furnishings, materials, artwork, and accessories were carefully selected to reflect a collective atmosphere and communicate the common theme of vibrancy. One significant challenge was the husband's fear of color. While he has an outgoing personality he did not want the home to feel loud and obnoxious. Putting him at ease was accomplished by presenting a comprehensive design plan with samples laid out so that he gained a clear understanding of how the home would flow together in harmony.
