The clients wanted an elegant, sophisticated, and comfortable style that served their lives but also required a design that would preserve and enhance various existing details. To modernize the interior, we looked to the home's gorgeous water views, bringing in colors and textures that related to sand, sea, and sky. Project designed by Boston interior design studio Dane Austin Design. They serve Boston, Cambridge, Hingham, Cohasset, Newton, Weston, Lexington, Concord, Dover, Andover, Gloucester, as well as surrounding areas. I utilized my client's existing furniture and added new accessories and accent pieces to finish off the room. They live on the Mobile Bay, so I didn't want to obstruct their beautiful views. Mirrors on the opposite wall reflect the water. Coastal colors and tones are found throughout.

The existing and dated curved archway through to the dining area was squared off and lined with a solid timber reveal and shadowline detail. An existing step down into the living area which was also a trip hazard, was levelled off to further emphasize the open layout and connection between the main living spaces.

The Lincoln House is a residence in Rye Brook, NY. The project consisted of a complete gut renovation to a landmark home designed and built by architect Wilson Garces, a student of Mies van der Rohe, in 1961. The post and beam, mid-century modern house, had great bones and a super solid foundation integrated into the existing bedrock, but needed many updates in order to make it 21st-century modern and sustainable. All single pane glass panels were replaced with insulated units that consisted of two layers of tempered glass with low-e coating. New Runtal baseboard radiators were installed throughout the house along with ductless Mitsubishi City-Multi units, concealed in cabinetry, for air-conditioning and supplemental heat. All electrical systems were updated and LED recessed lighting was used to lower utility costs and create an overall general lighting, which was accented by warmer-toned sconces and pendants throughout. The roof was replaced and pitched to new interior roof drains, re-routed to irrigate newly planted ground cover. All insulation was replaced with spray-in foam to seal the house from air infiltration and to create a boundary to deter insects. Aside from making the house more sustainable, it was also made more modern by reconfiguring and updating all bathroom fixtures and finishes. The kitchen was expanded into the previous dining area to take advantage of the continuous views along the back of the house. All appliances were updated and a double chef sink was created to make cooking and cleaning more enjoyable. For this 1961 Mid-Century home we did a complete remodel while maintaining many existing features and our client’s bold furniture. We took our cues for style from our stylish clients; incorporating unique touches to create a home that feels very them. The result is a space that feels casual and modern but with wonderful character and texture as a backdrop. The restrained yet bold color palette consists of dark neutrals, jewel tones, woven textures, handmade tiles, and antique rugs.

This space was originally part of a two room c1890 house with a central fireplace. The home was completely gutted and re-designed, using the original fireplace that now floats on it's own in the middle of a large open space. Photo: Lee Lormand

Our Cheshire based Client’s came to us for an inviting yet industrial look and feel with a focus on cool tones. We helped to introduce this through our Interior Design and Styling knowledge. They had felt previously that they had purchased pieces that they weren’t exactly what they were looking for once they had arrived. Finding themselves making expensive mistakes and replacing items over time. They wanted to nail the process first time around on their Victorian Property which they had recently moved to. During our extensive discovery and design process, we took the time to get to know our Clients taste’s and what they were looking to achieve. After showing them some initial timeless ideas, they were really pleased with the initial proposal. We introduced our Client’s desired look and feel, whilst really considering pieces that really started to make the house feel like home which are also based on their interests. The handover to our Client was a great success and was really well received. They have requested us to help out with another space within their home as a total surprise, we are really honoured and looking forward to starting!
