Haldane UK has designed, manufactured and supplied a bespoke American white oak spiral staircase which rose through 2 flights for the refurbishment of a manse in Scotland. Working with sketched drawings supplied by the client, Haldane developed a solution which enabled the spiral staircase to be virtually free standing from ground floor to second floor with only fixings to each of the landing sections. The staircase featured 32mm solid oak treads measuring 1000mm, 170mm diameter solid oak spacer components and was designed to provide a 20mm clear space from the treads to the wall. Haldane also manufactured and supplied 10.5 linear metres of 60x50mm elliptical spiral handrail which was fixed to the wall via brackets and finished with a bull nose end.

Paul Dyer Photography: Situated on a San Francisco hilltop, this 100 year old bungalow received a complete renovation by McElroy Architecture. Opening up to the panoramic views are expansive sliding doors on each level. Quantum’s Lift & Slide doors are equipped with stainless steel carriage systems in aluminum dark bronze, euro black weather-stripping, bronze anodized sill track and head guide finish, and oil rubbed bronze levers and flush pulls. Our Hinged doors were installed with full mortise butt hinges finished in dark oil rubbed bronze, and sills featuring 6” legs beyond side jambs. The Signature Series push-out sash windows feature handle and strike hardware in oil rubbed bronze finish, bronze weather-stripping and four bar stainless steel friction hinges. The French casement windows have flush bolts mounted to floating astragal in a dark oil rubbed bronze finish. The home also incorporates Euro Series fixed panels coupled with a special angled Signature Series transom. Furthermore, we find throughout the project, obscure glazing specified as acid-etched satin translucent. The project’s windows and doors are made of Douglas Fir, with Sapele door sills, interior rectangular sticking and exterior beveled glazing stops.

Soaring 20 feet from the lower-level floor to the underside of the main floor ceiling, this 2017 home features a magnificent wall constructed of split-faced Indiana limestone of varying heights. This feature wall is the perfect backdrop for the magnificent black steel and stained white oak floating stairway. The linear pattern of the stone was matched from outside to inside by talented stone masons to laser perfection. The recess cove in the ceiling provides wall washing hidden LED lighting to highlight this feature wall.

This maple stair with open rise carpet treads brings a warm and impressive feel to this home. The self-supported design alleviates the need for support posts under the landings leaving the view through the windows uncluttered. Grouped blanked spindles and mission posts add a simple linear texture to the staircase. The many posts tied together with angular lines showcase detail and craftsmanship.
