Our design process is set up to tease out what is unique about a project and a client so that we can create something peculiar to them. When we first went to see this client, we noticed that they used their fridge as a kind of notice board to put up pictures by the kids, reminders, lists, cards etc… with magnets onto the metal face of the old fridge. In their new kitchen they wanted integrated appliances and for things to be neat, but we felt these drawings and cards needed a place to be celebrated and we proposed a cork panel integrated into the cabinet fronts… the idea developed into a full band of cork, stained black to match the black front of the oven, to bind design together. It also acts as a bit of a sound absorber (important when you have 3yr old twins!) and sits over the splash back so that there is a lot of space to curate an evolving backdrop of things you might pin to it. In this design, we wanted to design the island as big table in the middle of the room. The thing about thinking of an island like a piece of furniture in this way is that it allows light and views through and around; it all helps the island feel more delicate and elegant… and the room less taken up by island. The frame is made from solid oak and we stained it black to balance the composition with the stained cork. The sink run is a set of floating drawers that project from the wall and the flooring continues under them - this is important because again, it makes the room feel more spacious. The full height cabinets are purposefully a calm, matt off white. We used Farrow and Ball ’School house white’… because its our favourite ‘white’ of course! All of the whitegoods are integrated into this full height run: oven, microwave, fridge, freezer, dishwasher and a gigantic pantry cupboard. A sweet detail is the hand turned cabinet door knobs - The clients are music lovers and the knobs are enlarged versions of the volume knob from a 1970s record player.

The kitchen is the command center for the house, with views all around to watch the kids. Corner windows and no upper cabinets facilitate this. Big bookshelf nearby for cookbooks and large opening to the right to pass snacks into the study room.

A view from the focal point of the kitchen the stainless steel range and hood flanked by casement windows. We added some hand cut wood brackets under the upper cabinets. The farm sink is centered on a window looking out to the pool and golf course beyond. The 48" wide refrigerator has a custom panel insert painted to match the brown in mosaic tile back splash. Note the same tile used for the backsplash is used as the fireplace surround. We wanted to provide a sense of continuity between the two spaces.

Papilio Bespoke Kitchens designed this kitchen and breakfast room following the latest trend of “The New Natural” (phrase coined by Elle Decoration) for an impressive Georgian manor house within close proximity to Bristol in South West England. The kitchen space is tall and long and had restrictions due to its Grade II listing, however Papilio’s Creative Director worked closely with the client and architect to ensure that not only are all of the listed building restrictions were adhered to but also that the finished kitchen was spectacular. The styling draws influence from the original Georgian features but also pulls in a contemporary Scandinavian feel. The work surfaces and Aga range cooker have been set at an above average level as requested by our taller client, this is one of the many benefits of a bespoke kitchen. The plinth heights are also a very specific bespoke detail requested by the client. Another unique bespoke detail requested was for the cat’s food and drink bowls to be recessed into the lower section of an open cabinet. Whilst most of the kitchen is finished in an oak veneer with crisp clean lines and beautiful textures, the sink run is finished in an opulent Calacatta Oro marble which we sourced direct from Italy. The finishing piece for the wet area was the renowned and unique Gooseneck regulator in antique brass by Waterworks. The appliance schedule included a 5-door Aga range cooker with an electric module including gas burners, this style of cooker allows for a great deal of versatility in cooking styles. We also specified the Miele flagship fridge freezer, the “MasterCool” and the brand new addition to the Miele dishwasher range “Knock 2 Open” which allows for the discreet handle detail in this bespoke kitchen to continue uninterrupted through the design. This was the second home we built for this retired couple. Downsizing with warm, contemporary sizzle, this 1,700 sq. ft. single-story features a spacious main living area, with direct access to the screened porch. Master on one end, guest room on the other. The brick-look kitchen backsplash wall is actually porcelain tile. High-efficiency, wood-burning fireplace heats the entire home. Glass panel doors add a flair. LED lighting throughout. The owners are thrilled with the realistic hardwood look and feel of the LVT (Luxury Vinyl Tile) flooring in all areas. Featured in the Asheville Parade of Homes.

Kitchen. The kitchen is an open concept kitchen with shades of black & wood finishes. The top & bottom cabinetry has a medium wood finish body frame, black cabinetry doors with a different shade of medium wood counter top. The kitchen island is finished in dark granite with grey interior & cabinetry doors. Overall, walls are white washed, dark grey slabs of homogeneous tiling with some parts of the house in embroidery accent tiles in cool colors.

This rural contemporary home was designed for a couple with two grown children not living with them. The couple wanted a clean contemporary plan with attention to nice materials and practical for their relaxing lifestyle with them, their visiting children and large dog. The designer was involved in the process from the beginning by drawing the house plans. The couple had some requests to fit their lifestyle. This is a dove grey handleless kitchen paired with Pitti Stone Italiana Worktops. This has been complimented with the use of Grey Graphite Fleetwood tall units, gable ends and decorative backboards.
