Call it what you will...Colorado Contemporary architecture, Mining Architecture, etc. It all describes this style of home. Use of metal, stone, weathered siding and other contemporary materials make for a stunning exterior. This home was built as a rental and is only 36' wide and built on a very steep slope.

This addition opens up to an established back garden in the leafy suburb of Ivanhoe. Seven metre wide doors slide away and broad timber steps descend into the garden. A massive but finely detailed facade screen modulates northern sunlight in the main living area. The algorithmic pattern of the facade screen was inspired by foliage and textile patterns.

The Porch House sits perched overlooking a stretch of the Yellowstone River valley. With an expansive view of the majestic Beartooth Mountain Range and its close proximity to renowned fishing on Montana’s Stillwater River you have the beginnings of a great Montana retreat. This structural insulated panel (SIP) home effortlessly fuses its sustainable features with carefully executed design choices into a modest 1,200 square feet. The SIPs provide a robust, insulated envelope while maintaining optimal interior comfort with minimal effort during all seasons. A twenty foot vaulted ceiling and open loft plan aided by proper window and ceiling fan placement provide efficient cross and stack ventilation. A custom square spiral stair, hiding a wine cellar access at its base, opens onto a loft overlooking the vaulted living room through a glass railing with an apparent Nordic flare. The “porch” on the Porch House wraps 75% of the house affording unobstructed views in all directions. It is clad in rusted cold-rolled steel bands of varying widths with patterned steel “scales” at each gable end. The steel roof connects to a 3,600 gallon rainwater collection system in the crawlspace for site irrigation and added fire protection given the remote nature of the site. Though it is quite literally at the end of the road, the Porch House is the beginning of many new adventures for its owners.

This house in Grey Lynn was design by Rogan Nash Architects. From a distance the house sits like a blackbird atop a hill, watching and waiting (a nod to the legend of Maui and Tieke): with its black vertical sheet metal corrugate cladding and matching black aluminium joinery. The profile of the house is an elegant gable which peers through the surrounding urban landscape. This was an important trick to the design: how to shimmy itself into a small site in a much beloved Auckland suburb of Grey Lynn. It seems settled into its busy neighbourhood. It is different and in happy contrast to the other buildings which are all dancing together “Under a Surrey Crescent Moon”.

We were hired to take a small, tired cottage and turn it into a more spacious home. We created an owners suite and maximized the view from the open concept main floor and upstairs bedrooms.

Our latest project centred around creating a custom annexe for a family that required special needs considerations within the historical setting of a Grade II Listed building. In response to evolving family dynamics, the annexe ensures unhindered access throughout the property, meticulously tailored to address the distinctive health requirements of its inhabitants. Overcoming the challenges posed by the old house's diverse levels and narrow corridors, the new annexe allows for level access to all facilities. It unveils picturesque garden views by design of strategically positioned windows at various levels and a shaded patio—a serene haven for relaxation. This metamorphosis comes to fruition through careful and detailed design considerations

Rear elevation of our beach side renovation project in Kent, positioned just beyond the sand dunes with a beautiful sea view. The existing house interior was renovated with new bathrooms, an extended open plan kitchen and dining space and the loft converted with a new stair and dormer window feature. The rear extension provides a generous balcony to enjoy the sea view and clad with a grey standing seam metal an elegant glass balustrade. Folding sliding doors open up the space to the garden and sea breeze.
